Blackfish - Conshohocken
Guests can enjoy a daily changing a la carte menu, as well as tasting menus ranging from five-to-seven courses.
Blackfish opened in 2006 and has since been named “Best Restaurant” in Philadelphia Magazine’s 2011 “50 Best Restaurants” issue, calling Blackfish “flat-out fantastic; sophisticated without being overbearingly avant-garde, pretty and fresh without being precious; the perfect restaurant of the moment.”
Everything was perfect the food was fantastic the service was exemplary it was wonderful
Love it. Food and service are lovely.
I often dine alone.sad that i had a bad experience when i went back for the 2nd time.server was not attentive neither were the manager.i felt very neglected.you would expect way more considering the price you pay.
This was our first time to Blackfish and it was amazing! Everything about it!
We will definitely be returning!!!
First visit and surely not the last. Food and service were impeccable! And, every table with a bottle of wine had its own ice bucket. A very nice touch!
Service was outstanding! Food was spectacular and it was an amazing experience.
too noisy, too cramped seating, tiny servings not much green to be seen on the menu or the plate
Blackfish is an outstanding BYOB. The food is phenomenal with so much flavor. Even things I never liked, such as beets were incredible. I've been there several times and never had something I didn't like. The servers are very professional and attentive. I highly recommend!
Nice variety of fresh seafood, beautifully plated. Honestly, everything could have used better seasoning.have been coming here for over 20 years. One of the less memorable experiences
As a former Chef, primarily of French Cuisine, I like to think I have some extra credibility with restaurant reviews. If I limited my review to 2 words it would “GET THERE!”
The servers were very attentive, but never intrusive. All plates were served simultaneously, which is rare nowadays. We received great advice from our primary server as to what to order for our party to share.
The food was excellent- all around. Every single dish, right through dessert.
I have not one negative comment. Get There!
We had an amazing meal....our first visit! It's just a bit pricy but I'll go back!
I love this place. But my chicken was overcooked...as was the bluefish.
the pasta was great and the soup was wonderful
Overall ambiance is great...but they must do something about the noise level. It's horrific. They kindly don't play music (thank god) but they need to install soundproofing.
This is THE BYOB destination in this area. The food is fantastic. Taste & presentation are top-notch. This is the place where you bring that really good bottle of wine that you've been saving.
We have been here several times, and the food is fabulous - a true foodie experience. On our most recent visit, however, despite having charming and attentive wait staff, the courses took FOREVER to come out, and then, inexplicably, would show up when we brought the delay to the servers' attention. Hopefully this was just a one-off experience as this is among the best quality food in the western suburbs.
Recent Friday night dinner and they had the Lobster Dinner Special still on the menu as they were snowed out on one of the days. For $49 it was really tough to beat. Start to finish every course was great. We’ve all had lobster ravioli that weren’t so swift, but not here as they were handmade with great care and it came thru. Just the right amount of food for everyone and the key lime tart for dessert was outstanding. Has to be top 5 in the burbs in my opinion and we are looking forward to our return!!
Delicious lobster-tasting menu. All four courses excellent.
First time at Blackfish and chose it to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. Our experience was wonderful from the service to the ambiance and ultimately the incredible food. Lea was our primary hostess and really set the tone for our evening. She was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and genuinely excited for our first time experience. We chose the 5 course chef menu and thoroughly enjoyed it! The portions were beautifully displayed and delicious.
Amazing flavor combinations. Wonderful ingredients. Very inventive preparations and presentation. Love this place!
Had a wonderful dinner! Opted for the five course tasting menu and couldn’t have been more pleased. Every course was a winner with twists on some old classics. An amuse bouchée of mushroom soup, Tuna tartar with Yuzu, smoked salmon with soft egg, chocolate pepperdelle with boar ragu, sea scallops ( which I am not usually a fan of but these were delicious), silky creme caramel, and a little filled doughnut with lemon curd. Service was attentive although dinner was slow to come out. Our server noticed what wine we had brought and let the kitchen know so our dinner would be compatible. It was a Saturday night and the place was packed. Noise level high. Will definitely be back!
Really exceptional chef’s tasting menu, with food that had my wife and I remarking to each other how great each plate was. From the salmon smoked in house to what I thought were the best cooked scallops I’d ever had and the short rib with a gorgeous lacquer, each plate had something completely unique and expertly executes. The service was very kind and attentive, and my wife and I enjoyed a great date night here.
I am very sensitive to overcooked fish. Blackfish is typically pretty good, not great. The fish is fresh and tasty, though. Service is attentive, but can be somewhat amateurissh. All in all a very good experience.
Our dinner on the night before Valentine's Day was quite lovely. Service was impeccable and with the restaurant far from full at the early seating, the noise level was very low. We thoroughly enjoyed our starters, roasted beet salad and smoked Scottish Salmon. I loved the crispy hen egg with the salmon. My dining partner's chicken dish, highly recommended by our waiter, was the most tender and flavorful chicken I have ever tasted. My duck magret was tasty and beautifully presented but a bit tough. Everything else was exquisite and delicious. It was an overall enjoyable dining experience, as all my previous visits have been.
The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We shared the charred broccoli, which was delicious. We shared two entrees: Arctic Char and a meal size portion of the lamb pappardelle. The char was amazing and the pappardelle was tasty, although the lamb seemed hard and over cooked. For dessert we shared the yummy warm chocolate cake. So wonderful! It was light and the coffee ice cream married perfectly with it. BYOB makes it even better. Will definitely return.
As usual, the food was superb. And the wait service was friendly and unrushed. He even recognized we were toasting my birthday, and ended the meal with a complimentary mini-desert. Only disappointment was that they failed to acknowledge our request for certain tables, and receptionist was not very friendly with her response. Unusual...
My wife and I had not been to Blackfish in several years, after a few visits that failed to go beyond the mediocre, but we were very pleased to find that it has now returned to its previous level of excellence. Although the restaurant was quite crowded, both food and service were top flight.
Yes, wonderful restaurant.... all 4 of us enjoyed the food... and 1 of us is very picky!
Everything was outstanding! The service was impeccable and one of the best meals we've had at a restaurant!
Fantastic in every aspect!! Service was exemplary and Kip’s passion for service and the food as he described every dish and answered our questions further enhanced the experience as the food was outstanding!!
We had a lovely meal @ Blackfish BYOB in Conshocken. It was a fixed 4 course seafood menu, including crab, octopus, and scallops. 3 of the diners had that, one went a la carte. One of the a la carte items was seared fois gras, amazing!!!
The best part of the evening was our waiter, who was so nice, and so accomondating.
We will certainly be dining there again.
This seafood tasting was absolutely one of their best. Super!!
We went for girls night and as always the food was amazing and the service was exceptional!
Exceptional hi quality complex dishes. This is a foodie kind of place. Not for everyday dining. Each dish was exceptionally made and complex in flavors. From the complimentary taste of mushroom soup, the pappardelle to the escargot to roasted broccoli, duck breast and fish. Everything was extremely enjoyable. The wait staff was polite and attentive. Our waiter was new but he showed great desire to make our meal special. He’s going to be great as he settles in. Our only knock is the space is a little small and tables a little too crouched together. Makes it a bit noisy and loses any chance of intimacy. But if you like a livelier dining atmosphere, it shouldn’t bother you much. All-in-all, a great place.
The service here was terrific. We were made to feel very welcome and cared for throughout the whole meal. We came on a night when there was a 3-course menu for $35 and we enjoyed all the offerings. The ciabatta bread was so good! Portions are on the small side but we were pleasantly full by dessert.
This is one of best restaurants I've eaten at anywhere: Phlly, Paris, Rome, Brussels, London, Barcelona, etc. I have been here twice and both times were absolutely fantastic. Both times in my personal top 12 meals of all times.
Unfortunately Blackfish has gone from being one of our favorite restaurants to being inconsistent. I would have recommended this BYOB without reservation a few years ago but my last 2 visits have been underwhelming and erratic at best. We dined on Saturday night and after receiving our first course there was literally a 1 hour break before receiving our 2nd course - the server never acknowledged
this delay and adeptly avoided coming to our table - finally the host came over and apologized for the long delay saying there was an issue in the kitchen.
The 2nd course came out room temperature instead of hot and again we had another long wait (40 minutes) between the 2nd course and entree. The entrees were underwhelming - they had no seasoning or flavor - it was so noticeable that one person at our table didn't eat her meal at all. When we told the host - We comped a dessert but when spending this amount of $ - I would rather have a better meal from the start.
We had a similar experience about 9 months ago - on our last visit and we thought it was just a bad night but it looks like this is the new BlackFish normal. Our waiter never said one word to us about the delays and us not enjoying our entree - she seemed to sense something was wrong and instead of addressing it she just kept avoiding our table which made things worse.
After over a decade of memorable meals at Black Fish (over 12+ dinners) I don't think we are going to be back again - very sad!
The tasting menu is great. Service is polite and snappy.
Fabulous food and service. Best BYOB in Philly.
Consistently likely the best restaurant in the Philly suburbs that I am aware of.
My husband and I have lived in Conshy for years and finally were able to visit Blackfish for our anniversary. Let me start off by saying the service is impeccable. The hostess greeted us at the door and wished us a happy anniversary as she seated us. The wait staff is extremely knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing in the least. I enjoy a slower paced meal and not feeling rushed or pressured to give up my table so the restaurant can get the next guests in- so the fact that we were able to enjoy our dinner leisurely was a definite plus for this restaurant.
And, the food was stellar. My husband had the smoked salmon - admittedly I’m not usually a fan but it was delicious, and paired with the egg was amazing. I had the burgundy snails, which were very good and a nice change from the standard garlic & butter escargot. Our main courses (swordfish and dolrade) were good but I think the first and second courses were actually better.
It’s definitely a place for special occasions, and overall an excellent restaurant that we will definitely return to and recommend. The only drawback is that it’s a smaller place so you can be pretty crammed in. We had the unfortunate luck to be seated next to a party of six with one fairly exuberant (aka loud) woman, but that’s not the fault of this gem of a restaurant and the quality of the service and food definitely make it worthwhile.
Great food and excellent service
