Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year." Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible.

Our experience was not great, but I think it was an exception, and this could happen anywhere. To start, we had to wait nearly 20 minutes for our table, although we had a reservation. Popular as Boka is, we were unable to find a seat at the bar to wait, so we waited outside. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The two glitches were that it took the kitchen 20 minutes to serve our main courses, after the appetizers. And once our food was served, three of the dishes were cold. Our server and the manager were very apologetic and had the courtesy to remove two of the dishes from our check. I know this could happen anywhere and we would return to Boka to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Boka was absolutely delicious!! We went for the 8 course tasting menu with the wine pairings and loved every bite! I highly recommend Boka!

We had a lovely birthday dinner at Boka. They even printed a special menu with my name on it. Nice touch! The food was delicious, our server was attentive and the ambience was pleasant. Still wondering why we got an email saying that we were an open table “no show”. It was an 8pm reservation on a Thursday night and I had called to say that we were likely to be late depending on a flight arrival at Midway. We were 20 minutes late.

I really wanted to try this place again but it was a letdown even though I just had drinks with a very good friend of mine raved about Boka its a fail as far as I'm concerned. I don't need to have my hand held but when the staff seems as if they can't be bothered then it's not me.

Food what can I say about that other than its not what everyone raves about.

Bottom line...Don't bother.

I went to Boka for my birthday and it did not disappoint! The menus were so personal and said “Happy Birthday” on them. We were surprised with a totally delicious amuse- Bouche which was delicious and a delight. The portions are definitely smaller (our server explained that to us) so we got the raw scallops, the artichokes, and Octopus. She recommends each person have a hot app, a cold app, and an entree. We just got one hot app (octopus) and looking back I wish we had ordered two! The octopus was hands down one of the best if not the best thing I’ve ever eaten.

Words can’t do justice for how beyond superbly delicious it was. I’m a quick eater and I was savoring it slowly which is hard for me to do! The fish entree portions are quite small so you definitely can’t share and need to order your own. The entree bass was very tasty.

We ordered dark chocolate and hazelnut desserts —which also may have been the best desserts I’ve ever eaten—and they surprised me with another chocolate cake with a candle with BIRTHDAY Ice Cream! It was so delicious and really tasted like funfetti it was such a fun surprise. They really made the experience special and didn’t rush us out. They let me open gifts at the table and take my time. I loved Boka and would do it over and over and over! This isn’t the type of place you necessarily come every week or month because when you add in the alcohol the pricing can add up (after tip we paid about 100 per person) but for a special occasion Boka is the best!

The service was exceptional and the food was everything we could have fathomed it would be. The fully curated 8-course meal and cocktails were very well thought out and planned to create the best experience.

Great experience. It is our first time in Boka, since we are celebrating a birthday so we tried the tasting menu. Every dish is delicious and creative, with interesting Asian infusion. I like the scallop the most. Definitely will come back.

Great way to experience a higher brand of restaurant for those looking to appreciate fine dining. Boka is a perfect introduction to Michelin start dining. The place is calm, inviting, and the food will bring you back for more. You feel as though you're in your favorite corner restaurant until the food comes out and reminds you how lucky you are.

Boka was amazing! Unfortunately my wife and I couldn't stay for the whole 8 course tasting menu due to me falling ill (unrelated to the food). However, the food we had was outstanding and the service was superb. They took care of us even though we had to leave way earlier than expected. We will definitely go back sometime!

Exceptionally good food served by attentive professional staff in a beautiful fresh feeling room. Makes me wish I lived in Chicago. The chef is extremely talented and this is definitely a fit for foodies. And good for a special occasion.

We were enjoying our 3 year wedding anniversary and had made mention of it on our reservation. When we were seated at our table, they had custom menus for us with "Happy 3rd Anniversary" on the outside of the menu! then after an amazing diner we enjoyed two beautiful desserts both with Happy 3rd anniversary on the plates! Just a beautiful touch! The server, Augustus, was fantastic, EXTREMELY knowledgeable on the menu and preparations. It is not a large menu, but everything was done extremely well and we could easily find items we both enjoyed on each course. P.S. - I was offered gluten free bread which is another awesome touch!

One word sums it all - Bad. Food is way too salty. Decoration is plain, no white table cloth, really for a Michelin star restaurant? Service is bad, the server came took our bill twice. The first time, I had to tell him I haven’t signed my credit card yet. 5 mins later he came back took the bill and even opened it to see what kind of tips he got. Should have put down zero. Greatly disappointed

The food at Boka is very good. Well-prepared. But the portions are minuscule. We went out and had something else afterwards.

The menu is small but don’t let that stop you. Each plate was excellent. Exceeded my expectations. My husband and I split dishes, we ordered the sea bass and cod. I am gluten free and most items on the menu are naturally gluten free. Highly recommend. Great experience.

Boka is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. The food is always very good especially the house specialty, Braised Beff Shortribs. Our starters, the cold scallops and the Shima Aji, were also quite good. However, the delicious bottle of 2012 Corrisson Cab Sauv was way overpriced at $300.00. I suspect that they are using a 3X markup which I feel is exhorbitant. The service is always very attentive. I'd like to see the restuarnt re-visit its pricing concept.

Per usual....FABULOUS! Let’s talk about the amuse bouche ....broccoli like I’ve never had it. I had to close my eyes while I spooned that deliciousness in my mouth to open all my senses. Then the oyster....yowza! Talk about an explosion of smokey goodness! Whatever Lee does with those carrots.....good Lord they are insane. The ricotta dumplings were little pillows of decadent pleasure. And those artichokes had this sunflower butter that gave it an extra a punch of yum!
Service is always on point and the vibe is quite lively and a little sexy. We didn’t order desert but they treated us with three tiny one-bite drops of sweetness. Thanks for all you do!
