Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year." Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible.

Amazing place for special occasion with professional staff and attentive kitchen. Food is out of this world. Would highly recommend to try Pavlova dessert and lamb steak there. It was my first tasting menu experience and I absolutely enjoyed it. The restaurant knew I came to celebrate my birthday and went above and beyond to create a personalized “happy birthday” greeting with my name on the dinner menu. Our waiter gave us a thorough explanation of the 8 course tasting menu for the night and recommendations if we order from a la carte. Of course, we went with the 8 course tasting menu. At the end of the night, he also gave us a lot of free goodies (chocolates, macarons, candies, small muffins) to take home. As amazing as the food tastes, it was truly the service from the staff that made it a memorable dining experience for me. They truly lived up to being a one star Michelin restaurant. I would gladly come back again in the near future!

Horrible experience. Our food came very late. We told the server ahead of time that we have to be at a Second City show. After rounds of reminders, the server said we shouldn't worry and the food should be out in 7 minutes, but it showed up after 20-30 minutes...We didn't even touch the food, but got charged the full price. No discount or complimentary service....It was quite unbelievable. We had a guest from Dubai and it was a total disappointment.
We did the tasting menu and everything was delicious. Great transition of flavors. Great service. Highly recommend it and will certainly come back when I’m back in town

Underwhelming food, overpriced. So many great restaurants in Chicago, don’t waste your time and money here. Reviews didn’t match our experience. If you do go, avoid the aji tuna and the octopus.
The appetizers were good, but I have to give a lower rating because the carrot vegetarian entree was ridiculously salty- I’m sure it was done by mistake, but our waiter seemed not to care at all. Our other experiences here have been much better. An off night in my opinion.

Might as well begin by saying I can't wait to return to Boka. Had a truly exceptional meal. The room is both unique and beautiful. Very well designed. Started with a tasty cocktail. Since it was our first time there and couldn't decide among all the tempting selections, we over ordered. We shared the steak tartar, summer cucumbers, grilled octopus, ricotta dumplings and the veal sweetbreads. They were all beautifully presented and tasted great. My only criticism is that the sweetbreads were slightly overcooked and not quite as tender as they should have been. That said, there was nothing left on the plate. Entrees were the olive oil halibut and the duck for two. WOW. Both entrees were outstanding. For dessert we shared the raspberry dessert and the praline/hazelnut. Both very good and a nice way to finish. A couple of other points. The bread they served was too good to pass up and the service was very professional and spot on. Although not inexpensive, I felt the meal, ambiance and service all lived up the price we paid.
Boka has an interesting, but limited, menu. Some of the food is a bit too fussy. However, the ricotta dumplings were excellent, as was the heirloom tomato salad. The chicken dish was well presented. My only disappointment was with the fish dish I ordered, halibut poached in olive oil. The fish itself was good, but a bit salty. The desserts also seemed too fussy, with a few odd combinations. The complimentary cookies, though, were excellent. If they had offered a cookie platter, we would have ordered it.
Tasting menu was great. Very accommodating for our food allergies! Can’t wait to come back.
Had a great birthday celebration tonight. Elegant dining but the modest portions benefit both my pocketbook and my waistline. Never disappointed.

This place is gorgeous! If you're looking for ambiance, you can find it here. We made a reservation and were running behind (thanks to city traffic), called to let them know, and they were so friendly and accommodating. We were seated in a lovely dining room with amazing floors, a moss wall with gorgeous paintings on it, and were greeted by a very friendly waiting staff.
Food was amazing! Highly recommend the ricotta cheese dumplings. Food is high quality, and highly priced, but you get what you pay for. Will definitely visit the restaurant again if we are in the area.

Definitely on the more romantic/intimate side as far as restaurants go. Interesting art pieces (don't want to give it away). The lights are dimly lit, but not so dark you can't navigate the floor. Nice selection of music from what I could notice between conversation. I will say the tables are a bit cramped, but thats common for the area - so whatevs. Portions are on the smaller side and pricey, but that's fine dining, right? Everything I ate was amazing aside from the corn foam stuff that was complimentary....and I LOVE corn. Waiters and servers are knowledgeable. I would go again for a special occasion.
Dinner was a delight from the warm welcome at the entrance to our finishing of a wonderful dessert. Starters were so delicious and innovative and the bread accompanying our meal was terrific - so moist with a perfect crunchy crust. Entrees were glorious and big dud we enjoy the generous shaved truffles on the taglialoni. Bravo Boka!
My wife and I traveled to Chicago for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We decided to go all in with the Tasting Menu. My wife is a vegan and I am not but they were able accommodate our needs. We love trying new things and are so glad we picked Boka. They also have numerous spirits available. The bartender went above and beyond the normal menu drinks for me.

I can't say enough good things about Boka. Lots of places can prepare good food, but what made Boka stand out were the little touches that shouldn't go unnoticed. Nuance speaks volumes.
Tolles Ambiente, klasse Service, aber das Essen war recht fad. Sah toll aus und klang super, aber geschmacklich absoluter Durchschnitt. Dafür waren dann die Preise ordentlich gesalzen und die Portionen klein.
I'm sorry to say my wife and I had a very disappointing experience at Boka. We've dined at elite restaurants around the world and this review is based on a wealth of experience, including knowledge that some nights are better than others. Perhaps we got an off night.
First the good. The service was excellent--except as below--they even picked up our theater tickets for us! Servers were knowledgeable and sensitive to our needs (we have some food allergies). The atmosphere was OK. Maybe a bit loud but each place has its own vibe. I thought this was more of a fine dining establishment which made it a bit more surprising. I'd say Boka is a bit more "upscale casual."
Now the bad. Our food was unremarkable but good in course one. Our mains were massively over salted. My wife ordered the roasted carrots and they were frankly inedible. We tasted salt all through the subsequent play at Steppenwolf (True West--definitely a go see). The servers did take the dish and had it remade but DEFINITELY gave the impression that "some people are more sensitive to salt than others." Not appropriate for diners of our experience (or anyone else frankly. I hope he or the kitchen tasted what they made--it was over the top! We almost NEVER send things back--due to the wait, the loss of the atmosphere of the night, etc... But honestly this was unavoidable.
My meal--the chicken--also over salted. But I blamed myself in part for this as it had been brined. It shouldn't "taste" too salty, but it did.
I suspect the head chef was out that Tuesday. But I think they should have been more responsive. No bill adjustment was made. (I'm not one to make an issue of it, but the waiter should have at minimum REDUCED the entree price. Why didn't he? Because he thought SHE was the problem, not the preparation. INCORRECT.
Others have raved. But with Alinea next door and so many other wonderful less expensive options, I think Boka was a poor value and a disappointment for us.
