About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
  • Vegetarian-friendly
Opening our doors in 2010, Cafe Aion sought to bring something new to the Historic University Hill Neighborhood. Taking our inspiration from the bistros of Europe, Aion provides a relaxed ambiance and flavorful dishes made with care. Over the years we have become the go-to spot for a workday lunch, a happy-hour with coworkers, a pre-theater bite or a romantic dinner. No matter the occasion, it's always a good time to stop by for a house-made sangria, a plate of crispy cauliflower, or a crème brûlée!

Located across from CU Boulder and its brand-new convention center, near Chautauqua Park, and a few blocks from Boulder’s downtown, Café Aion is centrally located with street parking available. Featuring a large patio and cozy fireplace, you'll find a welcoming ambiance no matter the season.

In addition to Chef Dakota winning the popular cooking show, Cutthroat Kitchen in season 4, Café Aion has been recognized by Esquire Magazine, Bon Appetit and 5280’s Tops 25 Restaurants in Denver.

Cafe Aion still good but maybe not quite what it was before recent change in chefs. Prices pretty steep (especially for wine and mixed drinks) and portions are noticeable smaller. Service can be spotty as there are only two servers for the entire restaurant (and a mandatory 20% gratuity is added to the check). Recent arrivals of Ajax at the Limelight and Mister Oso at Moxy give diners new options within a block or two of Aion.

The only blemish on a perfect meal was the bar running out of their mix for their spectacular peach whiskey sour - I only got 1! For a Friday night with theatre happening around the corner and a FULL house that was a bit of an unfortunate oversight. The service and food was otherwise amazing. Great date night spot!

If you are looking for a tapas restaurant, look elsewhere. There is a tapas menu for appetizers but the rest is served 'traditional' style with entrees. Service was amazing! We had several people checking in on us and catering to our needs and requests. Plan ahead for parking. It took us 30 minutes to park and walk to the restaurant as it is in a very busy location with no parking lots nearby. There is no handicap parking nearby either.

A feeling of stepping back in time a bit (for Boulder) into a warm and cozy setting, like being in a quaint European bistro. Service is friendly and attentive with good knowledge of the food and the beverage offerings. Food is always good, and flavorful, but often feel the level of attention to detail for a high quality dish could be better. But that little note of constructive criticism will not slow me from returning and enjoying another meal at Cafe Aion.

Excellent meal and very efficient and friendly service. House made hummus and pita were outstanding - probably the best we’ve ever had. Paella was tasty and very filling for two. We were tourists just passing through and our only regret is that Cafe Aion isn’t in our hometown!

Loved Cafe Aion, went on a Wednesday night and truly am gobsmacked it was so quiet-I think we were one of five tables. Not complaining that the college crowd either hasn’t discovered or warmed to this gem - the tapas plates were delicious and pretty generous, nice wine selection and interesting entrees. The menu was a little pricey, especially given that they automatically added a 20% gratuity for our table of four, but overall a good experience that I look forward to repeating.
