About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
Cafe Malta is a neighborhood bistro serving Mediterranean-inspired fare. We combine a warm, relaxed atmosphere with a perpetually creative kitchen, earning us multiple Open Table Diners' Choice awards.

Named for the island at the crossroads of the Mediterranean, Cafe Malta finds inspiration in the cuisines of Italy, southern France, Morocco, Greece and Spain. And in the Mediterranean tradition, Cafe Malta cooks seasonally and features a variety of local ingredients.

NOTE: For New Year's Eve, we'll offer a 5-course prix-fixe menu featuring our best dishes of 2025. The price will be $80, with an optional wine pairing for $35. You'll find the menu and the vegetarian alternate menu at our website. Cheers!

We LOVE Cafe Malta and Greg is perfect as an excellent waitperson. The food is absolutely delicious, especially last night with the Pan baked redfish. The Spanish Nobleza was wonderful.

All of the food is good - the salads, the hummus, the steak, the risotto. Always enjoy our meals there.

Try the salmon salad and the champignon tart. Brilliant! We also got two desserts, both exquisite.

FAQs

Yes, Cafe Malta is a popular choice for date night. It’s a cozy, Mediterranean-style bistro with a warm, intimate vibe, a well-curated cocktail program and a thoughtful wine list. Many guests praise the food, desserts (lavender crème brûlée, flourless chocolate cake) and attentive service, making it great for special evenings. Note that it can get lively and a bit noisy when full; for a quieter evening try an earlier reservation or weekday lunch.

Portions at Cafe Malta tend to be moderate and satisfying, guests frequently call them well-portioned and good value. Appetizers like crostini or gnocchi bleu are hearty enough to share, and mains such as the bistro hanger steak, brisket ravioli, or pappardelle are substantial without feeling oversized. If you’re sharing, pick two apps and one entree or ask your server about portions when ordering.

Cafe Malta serves lunch Monday–Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and dinner daily from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. They also run special events (for example Tour de Forks themed dinners and holiday prix-fixe menus) outside regular hours on occasion, so check ahead for special-night hours.

Partly, families and guests do dine here, and many groups bring teens or celebrate with family. Cafe Malta is more of an adult-focused bistro than a kid-centric spot, and seating can be tight with firm chairs, so younger children or strollers may be less comfortable. If you need accessible seating or a family-friendly table, call ahead and ask about accommodations.

For a quieter experience, weekday lunch or an early dinner is best. If you want lively energy and themed menus, attend the bi-monthly Tour de Forks evenings (Mondays) or weekend dinners, but expect a busier, louder room then. Reservations are recommended for popular nights.

Cafe Malta feels like a cozy Mediterranean bistro, warm, casual-elegant, and neighborhood-focused. Guests describe a European vibe with jazz in the background, cloth napkins, movie posters, and intimate lighting. It can be lively and buzzy when full, which many guests find fun, though others note it can get noisy during peak hours.

Casual dress is the norm, the restaurant describes itself as casual-elegant. Guests typically dress smart-casual for date nights and special occasions, but comfortable, neat attire is perfectly appropriate.

Yes, the team is accommodating: call ahead to request seating preferences, mention dietary restrictions or ask about timing for special occasions. Guests frequently note staff accept substitutions and handle allergy requests well. For large groups or themed nights (Tour de Forks), make reservations early.

Partly, families do dine here and guests sometimes bring teens, but Cafe Malta is primarily an adult-oriented bistro. Many guests describe it as a spot for date nights and grown-up conversation; it’s not set up with a kids’ menu or special kids’ amenities. If you’re bringing younger children, consider an early seating and call ahead to discuss comfort and menu options.

There’s no published waiting-list policy, but the restaurant fills up on popular nights and special events. Guests recommend making reservations for dinner and Tour de Forks; if you arrive without one on a busy night you may wait. Calling ahead or reserving online is the best way to secure a table.

Busiest: weekend evenings and special-event nights (Tour de Forks), when the dining room is lively and can be noisy. Quietest: weekday lunch and early dinner service are typically calmer and better for relaxed conversation. If you prefer a low-key experience, book an earlier table during the week.

It depends on what you want: go Monday (first and third Mondays) for the popular Tour de Forks themed prix-fixe experience; choose weekday lunch or an early weekday dinner for a quieter meal; weekends are great if you want a lively dinner scene. Reservations are recommended for peak nights.

Yes, Cafe Malta runs special holiday programming (for example, they offer a New Year’s Eve 5-course prix-fixe and guests frequently mention holiday dinners like NYE and Mother's Day). Because hours and special menus vary for holidays, call or check their website for specific holiday hours and reservations.
