Calabra seemed short staffed tonight. Our waiter was hosting too many tables.
We came twice last week. We absolutely love it in the lounge Number one reason: excellent seating arrangements. We could eat and have a conversation comfortably and with no effort. The seats, the light, the noise level cooperated. Plus live music on Sunday. The food was delicious. The service was great. Perfect place
Stunning decor and vacation-like ambiance with sweeping views. Possibly one of the most beautiful rooftops ever. Food was equally visually impressive and tasted good overall, some dishes better than others. Our server was wonderful, but the fussy host was an unwelcome distraction.
Very very steezy. Great place to meet steezy people while having steezy drinks, eating delish food, and enjoying both the ocean and the downtown views. Steezy.
Cool restaurant on top of roof. Tapas were yummy. Too dark to see the view of beach. Service was outstanding! The ambience was nice, but wayyyy too dark. Had to use our cell phone to read menu and eat food. Great for groups or romantic dinner.
Service was well meaning but forgetful. It was cold and my wife asked for a blanket (seating is all outside) which she never got and they forgot to order 2 of our small plates. Food was tasty but seating is in like deck furniture with low tables.
Christmas Eve... the service was wonderful, Everett was so quick and accommodating and well informed on wines and pairings. We loved our dinner and bites. The only thing we weren’t keen on was the chocolate cream brûlée desert (which took forever and was obviously pre made!) but he immediately removed it and we weren’t charged.
Lovely ambiance. Heat lamps since the seating is outdoor rooftop. There are cozy chairs and low coffee tables to eat on but it works.
Go for sunset!
The menu selections were healthy and varied and the preparation was perfect on all dishes. The branzino was amazing.
Wine selection was limited, but quite well appointed. Excellent Malbec!
Service was superb (we had Chelsea).
The ambiance is top notch. Beautiful settings in each area of the restaurant and bar. The bar tender and bar back were really cool and made a great rye whiskey Manhattan.
Santa Monica needed a place like this. We live locally and will be back quite a bit of the experience remains this nice.
Food was mediocre.
Love it! Beautiful spot and fantastic food!
It took a very long time to get drinks (glasses of wine) on a Sunday evening at 5pm.
Awkward lay-out on the roof...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent food and cocktails, french fries and hummus plate was amazing! Very good service as well, fully recommend Calabra
Howard, the manager, was amazing
I really enjoyed the customer service at the venue.
Beautiful views of the ocean and mountains.
Will def recommend to all my family and friends.
Thanks again, Howard, for a wonderful first-time experience at Calabra!
Nice food and ambiance at the Pproper rooftop. We ordered: artichoke dip, excellent, and comes with delicious grilled bread. Then the baby octopus, very nice as well. We also had the scallops which was the best item. The pork belly was so-so and would not recommend. In the summer there is some view of the city. The drinks are nice and prices decent. BTW, they charge 3% for employee health care; I think this charge can be waived if you ask them.
Absolutely amazing overall
The menu is too simple, they don’t have a good variety. Their bar has not options for different coktails.
I won’t be back and won’t recommend
The hotel is beautiful and the food in the lobby is fantastic
only would recommend for the ambiance. drinks/food are average. a luxury property should have food and drinks that match the experience. my cocktail tasted like it was made in a sports bar not a place that's supposed to have elevated taste and curated "proper" bar experiences.
Fabulous exciting and delicious. Open to the moon and stars!
The doorman was ridiculous and or his instructions were ridiculous. There was plenty of room upstairs but the “required” table booking merely made us miss part of the show we were trying to see. Rules for rules sake and his poor attitude didn’t help. The rest of the staff was great but elevator guy nearly prompted us to just go elsewhere.
Beautiful spot. Staff is pretentious
The rooftop was a loud bar atmosphere with limited dining type seating. Not a place I’d recommend for friends/dates getting together for dinner and catch up. The lobby bar was a much prettier atmosphere.
Food was subpar leaving me underwhelmed. Not one dish worthy noting any excellence. We ordered two desserts, both which were awful to the point of only taking one spoonful.
Service was pretentious.
Would not recommend the rooftop dining. Would only recommend the peaceful and beautifully lit lobby bar.
Went to a Calabra a few times no, last time with a party of friends. This place is FUN, not in obnoxious way, but relaxed and classy. Not cheap though!
Our servers, a girls whom name I forgot and Jordan are beyond accommodating 👌🏻
Annoying staff, couldn't seat us in the shade even though there were multiple shaded seats ?
Server didn't know who ordered what, so they asked us. Thanks for making us feel like we're at Dennys.
Busers kept hovering trying to snatch plates. 🙄😠
Most of the evening was Really good. A Blanket was hard to come by...they went to get me one then delivered it to the wrong table next to us who he gentleman happily accepted it 🙈. I finally got one about 30 mins later from downstairs, suggest keeping them closer to the outside area where they are used. Service was great as usual and made up for that incident. Have been here several times and have always enjoyed it and recommend it often
The food is delicious and the place is gorgeous! We will definitely be coming again.
Came for dinner with a few girlfriends and were told to wait at the bar until our table was cleaned off. We sat at the bar for at least 20 minutes or more with not a word from anyone just menus placed in front of us by a male bartender. As a host came to tell us our table was ready, a female bartender asks if we were ready to order drinks and i let her know it was too late because we had been sitting there for so long with a half empty bar and not been asked all this time. So that started our night on the wrong foot. Back track a little, it was very cold rooftop so i asked two host, two busers, and our server about blankets and finally got one after almost an hour. Had it not been so cold i would have dropped it but i was determined because at this point it’s irritating to repeat yourself and have nothing to show for your request. I think what’s happening here is that it’s new and they have figured things out yet. The service is just terrible and the staff is rude. Maybe it’s the horrible outfits they are wearing or they were hired for the wrong reasons because they don’t want to service. Our server specifically wasn’t so bad so i want to give credit where it’s due. She explained the menu very well. We ordered the babaganoush which was great. The bread it came with was good too but make sure to ask that it be lightly warmed so it doesn’t appear so burned. We also ordered the heirloom tomatoes which was alright and had peaches it was very fresh. For our main we ordered the Branzino to share and it was cooked well in texture but cold and salty. We ate half. Lastly was the dessert (burnt honey custard) which i had there on a previous occasion when i solely came for dessert and drinks. I definitely had a better experience then during the way which included live music so that’s why i came back to try the dinner. The restaurant downstairs Palma is fantastic by the way. Upstairs just needs help. Hopefully they figure it out, until then i would suggest elephanté.
Wonderful space with a very nice menu. Given their recent opening, service is not quite there yet - i.e. there weren't nearly enough people there at our 6pm reservation to warrant a 15 minute wait for a drink - but I'm sure they'll get there. Also, the restaurant rather awkwardly balances the expectations and needs of clientele coming from outside to dine and hotel guests wandering over from the rooftop pool. It's a little jarring to see a paunchy, shirtless man wander over to the bar while one is trying to enjoy an early dinner at a nearby table. Plus, plastic glassware? Understood given the proximity to the pool, but, again, diminishes the ambience and experience a bit.
My daughter birthday
Service was bad
Mistake in the food
Mistake in the desert qty
No candle for my daughter ( asked twice for it )
The deserts wasn’t serve complete
Very very disappointed
But good food !
Really loud music and terrible evening lighting
The restaurant was a wonderful experience! The outside seating had fun barrel chairs and there was a circular bar which created a happy atmosphere in the center. The sunset was beautiful and the waiter was so helpful recommending the yam or humus small plates! The food was the best small plates I have had in Los Angeles-!
Great ambience and incredibly friendly staff
Nice location. Very full of themselves.
Loved the roof top view and small plates! Service was a little bumpy.. Look forward to going back!
Great New neighborhood place. It’s in the Proper hotel but stands alone as a wonderful rooftop bar and restaurant with great views. Mediterranean food was excellent, served fresh with great service. If you don’t want to be around a lot of noise, the indoor outdoor lounge is a great place to have dinner in a relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely go back and take out of town guests.
Bartenders are a little pretentious.
The ambience and hotel are exquisite and very inviting. I loved the views/some very urban and others just lovely.
The restaurant needs work-staff was green/menu was not very exciting for me (but granted I am a vegetarian). The flavors were not very good for food that I eat all the time.
I loved the pool and the bar and will definitely give it another try.
The staff was green and someone took over to help. that was very considerate of them since it was my birthday.
Cool vibe but have some kinks they need to work out. Ordered drinks, apps and entrees. Received our entrees less than a minute after we were served our apps. Didn’t get our drinks until our food was finished. Don’t recommend the shrimp cocktail.. it tasted very odd exactly like a McDonalds hamburger.
So I took my mom there on her last night in town.
We enjoyed being on top of the hotel.
Out waitress was A +.
Drinks were good.
It was noisy so we sat off to the side in the ‘indoor’ part.
The big disappointment for both of us was the food !
Out of 5 shared plates we only really loved 1 of them . And we ordered 2 desserts . One was fantastic . The other (my crème brûlée) was extremely below standard.
We decided we’d go back for drinks but not worthwhile for dinner.
