The menu is rather limited but the salmon is outstanding and the mozzarella pesto tomato appetizer was to die for!
Really enjoyed the meal and the experience!
The pecan and praline french toast is worth the trip to Caroline!
My girlfriends and I went for a Sunday brunch during our stay in Austin. We were excited by the menu and looking forward to it. We were seated pretty promptly with our reservation, but quickly realized our server was quite below par and once she took our initial order, we did not see her again until we had to flag her down for our check an hour later. My coffee didn’t come out with my mimosa, I had to ask another wait staff for that since ours refused to make eye contact or stop with us. Then when my meal came out it was missing my chicken sausage which again, I had to flag down another wait stafff for. Even if the service would have been excellent, I have certainly had better meals for same or even less price. I’d recommend you skip this joint during your stay.
Excellent!! my date was smiling. We had to return again because it was so good
Overall great experience. Unfortunately it was during the boiling water time and no drip coffee was available. Not caused by the restaurant at all. Just weather and timing. Fun place!!
Overall we had a nice experience. My one complaint would be that we were a table of eight that arrived at different times and some of us did not receive our drink order for about 15 minutes. The food itself was good although the menu is somewhat limited. We had shishito peppers and corn dip as our appetizers, both were quite good. I had had the mushroom infused pasta dish with the addition of chicken as my entrée. It was rich and tasty, I really liked it. Consider splitting an order if you’re not real hungry as they give you quite a bit.
Great food! Reasonable prices. Creative cocktails!
I used to work here and I enjoyed it immensely. Eating here as a customer and former employee was wonderful. The energy was great. We went during ACL so it was busy but with a reservation everything was fine. The food was amazing as always and my boyfriend enjoyed immensely as well. Definitely recommend to others. Indoor and outdoor seating and the upstairs bar has a great atmosphere too!
Great food and perfect when you’re attending a show at the Paramount.
We enjoyed Caroline a lot. Easy to converse / hear each other, comfortable, good service, good menu and good food at a reasonable price. Will definitely be back.
We went for brunch. Took the server over 25 minutes to get us our drinks. After finally getting us our drinks, they were able to take our order - the food came a lot faster than the drinks. I thought it was a bit pricey for what you got - we paid $6 for a "side of bacon" that came out as two strips of bacon. Also, restrooms are a bit difficult to navigate. They're located three floors up from where the restaurant is located. A bunch of those who ate with us found themselves lost on the way to the bathrooms.
I will say, at the end of the meal - the manager came over and gave us free drink coupons for the bar upstairs. That was an unexpected surprise.
Celebrated my birthday. Started with cocktails and spicy deviled eggs...delicious! Five different entrees ordered for five guests: steak, haddock, chicken schnitzel, enchiladas, and salmon. Excellent, all of them! Complimentary chocolate cake and ice cream to celebrate. Enough to share. Ended the night with a night cap upstairs on rooftop bar. Fun times!! We’ll be back.
Nothing special. My wife’s digestive system reacted badly to the food. I would not go there again. Speaking of specials, there were none, and the menu is very limited. In short: Meh minus 2.
Met friends in from D.C. Had a great experience. Very lively for a wet Saturday afternoon. Service was prompt and not overbearing. Menu was broad however not overwhelming. Everyone at the table was highly satisfied.
Great experience eating on the front patio. Service and food were great. Especially the ahi tuna poke tacos.
In town to take my UT son to dinner, came here for a quick meal. Food and service were excellent.
The food was good but very salty. My daughter has celiac disease and is very serious about it. She tested her food and it came back with low gluten. She ordered a kale salad and decided to test it and it had low gluten also. Do not eat here is you have celiac disease. They clearly have a problem with cross contamination. The ambiance is very fun and the menu is good.
Great for Brunch. The Pecan and Praline French Toast is awesome!
Caroline has become our go-to downtown Austin restaurant. We love the location and the casual-yet-hip atmosphere. The food is good: quietly innovative without trying too hard, and we like the subtle twists on menu items. The Monday-Friday happy hour is excellent value with a good selection from the regular menu. No hesitation in recommending Caroline.
The big surprise was the arugula Caesar with chicken. Not the typical Caesar dressing nor big hunks of dry chicken. It was so good I’d go back to have it again but ask for a few more of the house made croutons. The burger was a surprise too. Best kept burger secret in town. Just devine.
Must checkout patio upstairs Sunday’s after brunch for a complimentary mimosa!
Andrea was a wonderful server on a busy Sunday
We had a group of 10 with a reservation for last Saturday for my husbands birthday. The reservation was for 8 but they were very accommodating as it wasn’t too busy yet. The food was great. We had some notable apps (roasted sweet corn dip and burrata) and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals as well (enchiladas, tuna tacos, and chicken schnitzel). Overall, Austin, our server did a great job and was very attentive. We rarely had an empty glass, if ever, and even when some of the pickier folks didn’t like their drink he willingly and without hesitation replaced it.
Fun night with good food and decent wine and cocktails. Lizzi was our waitress- very friendly and on top of things! I ordered the halibut and enjoyed it. The rooftop bar was hopping and the atmosphere was fun.
this is a great spot to eat before a show at the paramount. walking distance. fast service. server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu & allergy needs. menu is not the same old austin offerings, we had the salmon and the quinoa chili (spicy!) inside is new, clean and hip. outside transient issues are a turnoff.
Great food and ambience! Waiter was a bit odd but everything else was great.
Food was decent, but service was atrocious. We had to wait at least 30 minutes AFTER the peak crowd has died down, with very little follow up on order status and almost non-existent refills.
We thought that this would be a great place to take some out-of-town visitors. It has become a not-so-great impression of our fine foodie city.
We had such an wonderful brunch at Caroline restaurant. I personally started out with the Sassy Cowgirl to drink (iced coffee with some sweet, a little chocolate syrup and and some heat on the whipped cream). Quite delicious. We like to order a variety of "for the table" items when we are meeting up with a group to take the edge off while looking over the menu and Caroline's did not disappoint. Sweet Corn Dip with tortilla chips just what you would expect, deviled eggs (creamy center, the crema underneath was delicious and the fried jalapeno on top was a nice touch), poke tacos were a hit as well as the peppered bacon and avocado toast. Brunch and sweet treats go together for us so we ordered the knife and fork cinnamon roll as well (think croissant with cream cheese, not overly sweet, on top), see if they will warm it for you I think that's the only thing missing for me personally when it came to the cinnamon roll. The potatoes served with the entrees are perfectly cooked, crispy outside and creamy inside, they also have a hint of spice on them. Gravy was rich and full of flavor. All in all a fantastic brunch. If we are ever in the area we will be back.
Selected this spot to try something new for restaurant week. We had to ask for the ARW menu. Why is Austin so reluctant to give back? So few restaurants to begin with, then no promotion - let’s get with the program!
The service and food were great. I will probably be back, though I hate dealing with downtown issues.
I’ve been here for brunch and dinner. Solid food and good service.
Second time we had weekend breakfast at Caroline. Both times music blasting so loud we could not talk across a table for four. We asked if it could be turned down - waiter apologized, said eveyone complains but management insists it should be loud. Really? At breakfast? Service was very slow, food cold and mediocre. Waiter was nice. Won’t return.
The food was mediocre and wasn’t very flavorful. The appetizers were better than the main dish. We ordered shishito peppers and burrata for apps and Hot & Crunchy halibut and chicken enchiladas for dinner. The server didn’t tell me how huge the halibut would be which would’ve been good to know. We also listed ‘anniversary’ on open table and there was no acknowledgement by the staff.
great ambiance for a casual date night. the food was well executed with simple, vibrant flavors. the cocktail menu was short, in a way that spoke to perfecting what was offered. I highly recommend
Tried this restaurant for lunch knowing nothing about it. The salads and appetizers were very creative - not run of the mill. Service was extremely fast making it good if you have a short time for a bite. Noise level was high however, so plan on using your outside voice!
The bartender was hostile and the waiter was inflexible. Our food was fine but not amazing. Wouldn’t recommend this place, and it has a weird kind of vibe.
The restaurant is very nicely done. The wait staff was average, didn’t know House bourbon, relayed that a Chardonnay on tap had been replaced with a Reisling “it’s very similar” which I don’t find to be true. None of the food was given to the correct person that ordered it. The Chicken and Waffle is good, but nothing to rave about, the halibut sandwich was good but extremely thin piece of fish. The best thing we got was the cinnamon roll, which you can easily get from the coffee bar. Overall average experience, rooftop area is cool. Good for drinks, food okay. They are still new so probably working out kinks and still training.
Food was great. Lively atmosphere. Good place to go with a crowd that doesn't necessarily want to just sit and drink.
Salmon undercooked, service was slow
I went with 2 friends and we loved it all...the drinks, the food and the environment!
Dog friendly environment and the mimosas were very good too!
