It was a very strange experience overall. Our server was exceptional. She was very attentive and thorough, and very sociable. Our food however was poorly prepared. You could tell the ingredients used were of higher quality, but the preparation was abysmal. We had the Chilean sea bass, which was surprisingly tough and chewy, and did not flake apart well at all. The sauce they used did not compliment the fish at all. The mashed potatoes they served were sour??? I’m not sure how they make their mashed potatoes, but if they included dairy it had to have been bad when they used it. We also had the mango salmon, and the salmon was just okay. They clearly tried to prepare the salmon in a unique way by glazing the salmon with a housemade sauce, as a means to stand out from other restaurants in the area, but it ended up hurting them by taking away from the taste of the salmon. It’s very unfortunate that a seafood place on the river, what you’d expect to have stellar food, was just bad enough to never experience that dinner by the water again. I’m not sure if we’d go back, but I do hope that our meal was just a one off, as the restaurant and location has a lot of potential. I can’t speak for the seafood boil, but that appeared to be the most popular menu item (everyone around us was enjoying the seafood boil). If the seafood boil is as good as it is popular, then the restaurant clearly excels when they keep things simple. Any newcomers should steer away from anything that sounds too experimental.

We sat outside and the view was awesome. Our server was Jessica and she was the best. Very knowledgeable and very attentive. Food was great! Two of us got the boils and one of us got fish and chips!

It took about 15 min just to get a server. Even though there were only two other tables with guests. Another 30 min to get waters and two drinks… one was the wrong order. She did remake it (against my wishes as we already decided to leave) she only charged for the one drink. I am disappointed as the menu looks good but to have one server/bartender on a Friday night speaks volumes for the behind the scenes issues. Our first clue was a nearly empty restaurant on a Friday night in a very high demand river location downtown

The server was terrible and rude. Charged us for gratuity for five people when it clearly stated it’s charged for parties of 6 or more. Very rude service

They were very short-staffed the day we were there, and the bartender was covering the entire room. To her credit, she did a great job. Food was good and we went for the grilled oysters and crawfish-very good. There are not a lot of places in the region for this type of food, but this is a good one.

I really wanted to love this place. The menu looked amazing, and the location on the water was a nice bonus. Their prices were very reasonable compared to many other restaurants. We ordered the chargrilled oysters to start, and they were delicious. I wish I could say the same for the rest of the meal. Chilean Sea Bass is by far my favorite fish, so I am always excited when I see it on the menu. The texture of the sea bass was way off. Instead of a firm, flaky, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture, it was mushy and somewhat watery. This is typically caused by refreezing when you shouldn't. The sauce was overly sweet, tasting more like syrup with a hint of miso. It was so bad that I did not eat it. I gave it to my dining partner, who also couldn't force themselves to finish it. Luckily, we also ordered the Salmon Oscar, and it was decent. It was cooked well, but lacked seasoning. The garlic mash tasted like it was made with instant potatoes, so it was just ok. The highlights of the plates were the broccoli and the green beans. Both were fresh, cooked perfectly, and seasoned. Needless to say, we will not be returning for a second visit.

FAQs

The ambience is casual and lively with a lakeside backdrop, expect a relaxed, approachable vibe rather than upscale fine dining. Guests praise the food and friendly servers in many visits, but others note décor that feels mismatched (panda artwork) and a chain-like interior. Service can be excellent or slow depending on staffing, so ambience may vary by night.

Yes, guests report staff being accommodating for celebrations and helpful with menu choices, so calling ahead to request seating, allergy needs, or celebration arrangements is recommended. The restaurant does not list private-party options, so for larger or specific requests (private rooms, large group menus) call to confirm what they can accommodate in advance.

It can be, but with caveats. Catch & Cut offers a lakeside setting and a chef-driven menu that can make for a pleasant date-night experience, especially for couples who enjoy seafood and grilled dishes. However, guests report a casual, sometimes mismatched interior (panda decor) and inconsistent service on busy nights. For a smoother evening, aim for an early weeknight or call ahead to request a quieter table and confirm atmosphere.

Yes, families and birthday groups dine here regularly, and guests report staff are accommodating with family celebrations. There’s no mention of a children’s menu, so expect standard menu items; bringing shared seafood dishes or simpler entrées for kids works well. For younger children, consider an early seating and call ahead to check menu flexibility.

There’s no explicit mention of an official waiting list, but guests report long waits for service and food during busy periods. Because weekends, especially Friday nights, can be busy or understaffed, it’s wise to call ahead, make a reservation if the restaurant accepts them, or expect possible waits during peak times.

Catch & Cut’s posted hours are: Mon–Thu 11:30 am–9:30 pm, Fri 11:30 am–10:30 pm, Sat 11:00 am–10:30 pm, Sun 11:00 am–9:30 pm. These hours make it a good option for lunch, early dinners, and later weekend nights; consider calling for holiday hours or special events.

Catch & Cut presents as an open, casual dining room with lakeside views rather than formal private rooms. The restaurant does not advertise private dining or party rooms, and guests describe an open layout with a lively atmosphere. If you need a specific table type or a quiet corner, call ahead to request seating preferences.

Portions tend to be satisfying and shareable, especially for seafood-focused items. Guests frequently call out the seafood boil, grilled oysters and crawfish as highlights, dishes that are typically served family- or group-style. Expect restaurant-style entrée portions rather than tasting-size plates; many guests found the value reasonable for the quality and variety offered.

Business casual is the stated dress code. The restaurant’s relaxed, lakeside setting and casual dining style mean most guests wear smart-casual to business-casual attire, comfortable yet neat clothing is appropriate.

Weekdays, especially Monday through Thursday, are likely the best choice for a more relaxed experience. Guests report the most service and staffing issues on Friday nights and sometimes weekends, so choose an off-peak weekday or an early dinner on the weekend for better service and a quieter atmosphere.
