Charlie Palmer Steak - DC
Much more than a steakhouse, the timelessly stylish restaurant moves the political power meetings out of the back room and into private dining spaces, sleek enclaves of dark wood. Located off the wide, open expanse of the National Mall, Charlie Palmer’s Steak’s rooftop terrace can accommodate 400 guests for private events, offering the city’s most impressive view of the Capitol.

Decided to eat in the bar and try the bar bites. The lobster corn dog is life changing.
Good place for work lunch. Cauliflower steak great too.
Overall, the experience was OK. I’ve eaten at this location and had better experience. It’s possible that since I wasn’t drinking, it may have skewed my overall impression. Waitstaff were professional, prompt and responsive.
Everything was outstanding …. Ambiance, service and food. Our server Kitty was SUPERB!
The experience was phenomenal. Will definitely go back there
Family get-together far from home
Superb dining experience in what I believe to be the most beautiful dining room in DC. Steak was perfectly done, not often said about a Strip Steak done medium well. It was moist and flavorful and a deep rose. Shrimp cocktail was wonderful. Lovely little cocktail list. This is my second time at this restaurant and my companion — hard-to-please — said he wanted to go back the same week! Take your time here and linger.
We dine at similar upscale restaurants at least 4 times a month. I loved the music, my waiter was superb; i wish i would’ve gotten his name. The only thing i would change is the size of the onion rings, they were really big and add regular A1 sauce; i didn’t care for the choices they have. Oh, they actually pay attention to your request and the occasion. We were sat by the window like I asked, we received 2 on the house glasses of champagne and a slice of cake.
cps is a great spot. the customer is accomodaTED IN EVERY CASE ON REQUESTS, ETC. THE FOOD IS GREAT AS IS THE SERVICE. i highly recommend it
Food was ok. Service a bit slow for being empty.
Felt rushed through our meal. Had to send some things back that came out cold. Food was good but for the price we won’t go back. Many many great steak houses in the area.
Pretty disappointed with our experience here. We had high expectations and were let down across the board.
1. Arrived and were seated at a beautiful table by the window. But, then awaited a greeting from our server to take a drink order for at least 5-7 minutes.
2. Ordered our food. It came out at a reasonable time, but the filet minon was the most fatty piece of steak I've ever gotten at an upscale steakhouse. The server also not once returned to ask how our steak was cooked. That has honestly never happened to me.
3. Our drinks were gone shortly after our entrees arrived. Our server never returned to ask if we would like another cocktail
4. We had finished our meals, plates and drinks were cleared. 15 minutes later our server arrived with dessert menus. We said we had been done for quite some time and just wanted to leave.
Ultimately, I would have much rather spent our $280 literally anywhere else. We will not be back.
Noise came from eating outside — and bad luck of street construction. “Steak frite” was very un-French to the point that a French person might turn up their nose — but much tastier and more interesting, so maybe delight to those who simply appreciate great taste and texture (even a little panko?)!
We really had a wonderful meal. Everyone really enjoyed the service and meal. I love the fact we they have no corkage fee on Fridays.
My frist time at charlie palmer DC an i had a amazing time the staff were Awesome service was fast food an drinks was Awesome I enjoyed cleabraing my cousin birthday here it was a great choice at the when we finished up they gave us a Vip Tour to there rooftop for the best view of the capital for group photo they went beyond expection will be visiting Charlie Palmer steak DC again. 5taR approved ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
great staff. great food. great service. will be back
Perfect evening from start to finish! Lamar was a talented and friendly bartender and made both of us extraordinary cocktails.
Kitty was our server and went out of his way, truly above and beyond to make our evening special! Great staff, phenomenal food and drinks and wonderful atmosphere! We will be back for sure… thank you all for a very memorable evening!
Very nice place to take someone you care about or a business dinner. Will certainly go again when in Washington.
Very disappointing! I will not recommend this place for a special occasion. The staff especially the server Kitty did not even make an effort to wish my 12 year old happy birthday! They were very plane Jane about the whole experience and as a result we were underwhelmed. Though a very pricey place but there was no wow factor. They could not even do a cheap dessert and candle! Never going back!
Gustavo is the best waiter I've ever had. Beef Tartar the best I've ever had. Wow.
Excellent service, very nice atmosphere, delicious lunch
Steaks were over cooked and cold, sides lacked flavor and execution
Amazing dining experience!
Charlie Palmer's is a classic steak house that has not let their standards drop! Good food, good service and a beautiful dining room with Capitol Building as your back drop. Go and enjoy, steak lovers!
Came here today for lunch. I got the Prix Fixe lunch option and elected for the Oysters and Grilled Steak Salad (medium rare). Both the oysters and steak were delicious and I thought a very good value at under $30.
Excellent service, food was delicious, ambience was amazing.
The service was fantastic, the food was delicious, & it was a night to remember.
Excellent food and a very attractive atmosphere. Did Happy hour first and then dinner. It's not a cheap place but it is of solid quality. The seafood platter appetizer was awesome.
I highly recommend dining at Charlie Palmer. We had a wonderful experience. The manager, Michael, took such great care of us. I will be back!
I really wanted to like this visit, but unfortunately the experience was pretty bad.
For context, I've eaten here 3 times prior, albeit about 3-4 years ago and my prior experiences was great.
There were a lot of service failures...for example:
1. We asked for wine recommendations and our server said "I don't know, I'll have to ask the wine advisor." When he returned, he didn't bring any recommendations.
2. It felt like we were rushed through our appetizers. Servers kept hovering and two in our party were MID-BITE and they literally reached in and took our plates away?!?
3. Pacing of the meal was way off, after the apps, one of our party left for the restroom and they brought out the entrees to an empty seat. (This is a big pet peeve of mine, please don't serve the entree until all parties are at the table)
4. Because of the rushed paced and the mis-firing of the entrees, the fish orders were dry and over cooked.
5. The steak was so-so, a little under-seasoned or I should say uneven as some parts were good, but also the sear on the steak was just not good.
The good parts - despite the service miscues, everyone was very nice, the wine we selected was delicious, and the appetizers (oysters and ahi) were very good. The dessert special (blueberry peach cobbler) was also the hit of the evening.
All in all for $600 (apps, entrees, 2 bottles wine) unfortunately, I don't think I'll be back.
Great food and amazing staff. Joaquin and Kitty made our day very very special, thank you so much for the great experience.
I took some of my staff to CP's for lunch. The food was outstanding as always, and the atmosphere was nice. Would love to see more people coming out, but we enjoyed our time tremendously.
I was there celebrating my birthday. The sever did a great job taking care of us. He was very attentive and was helpful with recommendations. We had a great time.
The food here is consistently good, what you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse. The number of choices on the menu is a bit weak in my view (especially compared to BLT), but what we ate was great: onion soup, two filets and peanut butter terrine for dessert. My only complaint about the food is the twice-baked potato, which lacked any real taste. Service was good but not exceptional.
We had the Restaurant Week menu. All items were prepared well, served at the appropriate temp, and very tasty! We will return
Honestly, a bit underwhelmed, maybe I had built too high expectations from what I read. Ceviche appetizer was awesome. But the the NY strip steak was a bit chewy and fatty, bland with the potatoes. ESPRESSO POT DE CRÈME Desert was ok. I would go back and try other things on the menu but for the value I guess I expected more.
The food was very good, but it was the service that made the meal outstanding. The servers were great with suggestions and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening. We even got to go to the rooftop for views and photos of the capital. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the appetizers, sides, and desserts were very good. Only complaint was the mashed potatoes, they tasted sweet to me. I prefer mine a bit more chunky and on the salty side.
A great place to participate in DC Restaurant Week. Great ambiance and good food. Staff was attentive and kind
Absolutely amazing place to go on an anniversary! They treated us like royalty and made us feel special on our special day. Thank you!
