Food was excellent. Service was surly, indifferent, inattentive and slow. If I go back, I will request a different waiter and hope for better service.
Too expensive for the quantity and a little bland for taste. The server was rude, but I could tell they may have been understaffed. Dark ambiance. Lack of ventilation.
The decor seems out dated. Need to liven it up
Outstanding dinner! The meatloaf was the tastiest (and fanciest) I have ever had. My son had it here before and said I had to try it. He was right! So tender and flavorful. My sister enjoyed her monkfish, a daily special. Salads ere fresh and artistic. Service was attentive and helpful. This place is great and I will definitely be back, probably for the meatloaf.
Salads and entrees were excellent; desserts were world-class. Rhubarb tart with ice cream may be the single best dish I've ever eaten in my life.
We had a lovely dinner for my birthday at Chef’s Station. It was a Monday night and quiet...which we appreciated. Table conversation was not a strain.
The restaurant was attractive, the service excellent and the food delicious. I especially enjoyed the caramelized onion tart as an appetizer. We would definitely return.
All our dishes were very well prepared, fresh, and creative. This was a nice gem tucked away near the rail station. I wish we could have each ordered several entrees - everything we had was very good. Wine list featured very reasonable offerings. Looking forward to returning.
We had an excellent meal. From the appetizer to the salads to the entrées and desserts everything tasted and looked superb. The maître' d and his assistant were helpful without being obtrusive. It's a little pricey but well worth the money. I would recommend it highly.
Food delicious, as always. Service was ridiculously slow but the food made up for the wait. Another plate of bread would have helped.
We had heard of this restaurant for many years, but this was our first time here, for a special occasion to celebrate an anniversary. What a wonderful experience! It was a wonderful atmosphere and amazing food! We highly recommend this restaurant.
We love Chef’s Station! As a family we have been dining here for years. Each time they treat us with the most excellent service! Food is delicious.
Chef's Station is one of our favorite places. The menu is wonderful, with food preparation and service to match. Every bite is heavenly.
Excellent food, especially the brandisi and underlying salad, the asparagus soup. Dessert soufflés, while we appreciated the staff making an exception for us and preparing grand marinier ones for us, were slightly disappointing. Service could not have been better, or more friendly. It was not a crowded night, but for whatever reason the noise level was thankfully low. This was our first visit; we will return.
A family favorite for many years, it never disappoints! Great food, atmosphere, and service.
Super food presentation, taste and portion. Sleepy atmosphere on a very quiet Wednesday night but utterly delighted by food. Our party had various offerings from lamb loin to scallops to the walleye and all was amazing. I think it is a best kept secret in Evanston.
It is one of our favorite restaurants! I had the halibut special and my husband had the filet and both were cooked to perfection and delicious. Great mussel appetizer, beet salad, caramelized onion mashed potatoes and dessert. Affordable and varied wine list too!
Great upscale restaurant nestled underneath the Davis Street Station in Evanston. Service was excellent and the food was outstanding. Even our picky kids found great options and the waiter and chef made some off-menu items for them. The Beef Wellington and the Scallops were delicious and the Rhubarb Soufflé was perfect.
It was a memorable evening for our daughter's birthday. She said it was a perfect meal. We loved it too.
Would go again in a heartbeat.
As always , one of the gems of the culinary scene in the Chicago area. Exceptional service, ambiance and food! Could not have taken my wife for a better birthday dinner!
Great food, as always! Quiet too!
Very disappointing. The service was inattentive and slow. Food came like warm when it finally arrived. The prices are those you’d expect for “fine dining”. The food descriptions sounded wonderful but the execution was mostly tasteless.
The food was outstanding!
Great wine selection.
We loved being able to have conversations without background noise.
This is a special place where the staff and the atmosphere are relaxing and the food is delicious. We all enjoyed a special celebration with our grandparents and parents. It lends itself to conversation and excellent service. We will return.
Lovely food. Great place to have a romantic dinner. Service was good. Not four stars only because our server older gentleman felt the need to share the prices of everything we ordered. Not sure they see many wealthy people of color in here. I would recommend it but would prepare my friends and family.
Valentines Day dinner
Service slightly slow, our older waiter had a bit of an attitude mostly brusque and sometimes a bit condescending such as “Turbot” do you know what that is and then proceeded to tell rather than either wait for a response or wait to be asked; and did that repeatedly. Could have just described it: less words and time, and besides most of us were well aware of the items in the menu (we were in our 49’s and 50’s). And the others in my party had the same impression.
Overall a very nice restaurant, very good wine list and reasonably priced. Hard to find entrance as it is near/part of the El station structure but once inside very nice decor almost felt like entering a speakeasy (questionable outside and surprisingly nice inside). Will go again even if we get the same waiter, in a way part of the experience of the outside decor.
For a dining experience away from the numerous non-conversation restaurant environments that exist in Evanston, Chef's Station is a diamond in the rough. Spent three hours on a first date. Great ambience, food and service.
Birthday. Excellent service, food, ambiance.
The food at Chef Station is such a wonderful treat - lovely combinations, beautiful presentations, and delicious flavors! We always have a great meal. The service is also top notch. It's one of our favorite places to dine.
I always enjoy going to Chef's Station for New Years Eve! In previous years a fixed menu was served. This year they went with a few different options, which allowed my wife and I to sample most of the menu. We will be back to ring in 2020, if not before.
Chef’s Station is one of our favorites. They always honor our dietary restrictions and provide new options for us. Food is always delicious and the atmosphere is quiet and romantic. We love it.
We always enjoy dining at Chef's Station. Our wonderful meal on New Years Eve was no exception and are certain to return. We highly recommend Chef's Station for their fine wine list, creative and delicious food offerings coupled with friendly, attentive service.
We went there for New Year's Eve dinner at 7pm. The food was excellent but the service was very slow. So slow that our wine was comped. We don't know if the kitchen was slow or if the restaurant needed more waitstaff for the New Year's Eve crowd.
This could be a great fine dining restaurant . The food was superb however the service was not so great. Unfortunately we will not be back. The servers and staff were working but never came back to see how we were doing or if we needed more drinks. Very slow. We had a dirty plates not removed for some time. I had to flag down our server to get coffee with our dessert which arrived well after we had finished . I’m usually pretty easy to please . But this bothered me since it was a prefixed menu it shouldn’t be that hard to give good service. We spent over $400.00 for 4 people which is fine if you can have a good dining experience. Our server never even said goodbye . I contribute the service to improperly trained staff. Hopefully, they will work on that.
Chef's Station never disappoints. We enjoyed the Christmas Eve dinner--crab cakes, quail, duck, lamb--all delicious; I hope some of these are moved to the regular menu. We very much enjoyed the two dessert options as well. The $55 charge for the dinner was a bargain, given the quality and quantity of food provided.
3 course Christmas Eve menu had great variety and the taste was outstanding! Also, a great price for the dinner. Service was a bit off from what we have had in the past but the restaurant was pretty full. Service was just not quite as attentive as we have experienced.
Did not find the food special. Salad leaves were spread on plate in single layer to make it appear like there was a lot. It hardly contained any goat cheese. The 1/4 teaspoon of goat cheese was smeared on the plate. So difficult to get on my fork. . Had no nuts. The beets were over cooked and plain. The salad had no flavor. For the price of the salad I expected better quality of food.
The dinner of scallops and mashed potato consisted of 3 cold scallops and at most a measured table spoon of cold mashed potatoes. And a shaving of a carrot. Not spectacular with the flavors. For the price of the salad and the dinner I would not recommend this restaurant. Cold food, sparse stingy even with the bread; gave 2 thin tiny slices. My husband too was not happy with his spare ribs. He too was disappointed with the quality of the food. Don’t recommend to eat here specially with the over priced menu. See below.
Hidden gem under the train tracks. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Excellent wine list. This time I had a duck dish and my dining companions had the lamb. All were perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful.
