If you find yourself in East Austin after work, hit up Chicon best for happy hour drinks and snacks.
The waiter was not very kind. He gave no options other than bacon or potatoes even if I asked him for vegetables... he said there were no vegetables to offer.
one of my favorite restaurants in austin, special occasion with friends in town, had a fabulous evening, food, service & setting
The kitchen was a little slow
So.good. everything was fantastic. An Austin-bred restaurant that is here to stay!
Everything was great! My big dinner plans for their other spot Contigo fell through, but I got lucky and was able to book this reservation with only about 24 hours notice. The party was for me but I had to arrive late, and there was no problem seating our party of 15 without my being there. The staff split up the tickets before taking orders which was a huge relief. The servers were helpful and attentive. The drinks, veggie sides, and shareable plates were all delicious. The atmosphere was hip, and though there were others dining around us it was spacious enough to feel like we had the place to ourselves. I would definitely recommend this for a large party, or just for a nicely-lit date spot with someone special.
Great burger and really nice waitstaff. Really loud space made conversation hard at times.
The burger can't be beat. Oddly, the adults ordered the burger, while our child loved the skirt steak. Lots of good veggie sides options filled things out nicely: zucchini, avocado, brussel sprouts. The Moscow Mule mocktail is a nice non-alcoholic beverage.
The food was good; the drinks were ok. Not all of the order actually arrived from the kitchen.
Overall, it was good. The drinks were good and unique. The food was tasty. The high top tables were not comfortable at all. I’d go back for another try.
The service at Chicon was incredible. Everyone was so polite and accommodating and it really helped make the event special.
The food was also amazing and really high quality.
I genuinely can’t recommend Chicon enough.
The food was good and the drinks were excellent, but it took over an hour our main courses to arrive. When we did start receiving our meal, a few members of the party received cold food. The restaurant didn’t seem busy enough to justify the wait.
Everything was really good with a small caveat. The Sichuan wings are really really spicy in a different way! They use Sichuan peppercorns and make your mouth tingle... People either love them or hate them and most of our group were not fans! Beware!
Seated us before 7. No waitress until after 7 and then no happy hour offered. Pathetic. Service overall was not up to par. Food was good nice place bit angry customers don’t return. Dropped a load of cash but not next time.
1/2 price burgers for the win! What a great place for a casual business meal with a larger group.
Burger night was great, and the fried Brussels sprouts were amazing.
This was our second time to Chicon with our family. The Easter brunch was very tasty and served family style. The was a full restaurant and the loud, but I would go back again.
Family style brunch felt like it was a little over valued. However we did get great service, and got compensated with migas and great cloud bread
I took my kids for Easter brunch and the two regularly picky eaters loved everything! The food was delicious and the service was top notch. We left satisfied, full, and I was very happy about the bill! Will come back for sure.
Exceptional bang for your buck here on Wednesdays. Such great tasting food, and great service.
Chicon is a nice neighborhood restaurant with a great local food. We all tried fresh brussel sprouts, and the grilled cabbage with our steak and chicken dishes. Really good food!
Great brunch. Thanks!
Loved the decor and food was delicious! Maybe some more entree options would be nice, with better range of prices, but overall great experience.
Had a delicious birthday dinner at Chicon. We went on a Wednesday and took advantage of their prix fixe menu + bottle of wine option. Lovely.
We went for my birthday Tuesday night being big fans of Contigo and were both pleased and disappointed all in one. We arrived at our reserved time of 6:45 pm to a nice table set for our group and proceeded to order snacks and drinks as soon as our server came to greet us. Happy Hour was supposed to go until 7:00, so we made a point to mention that we just wanted to get the HH items in before the cut off then we'd be ordering more after that. The food came and everything was amazing - though orders were mixed up and special requests were forgotten. But things straight off the menu were delicious, especially the charred avocado. So once we reminded our server of the items still missing (that she forgot to put in) all was good. Then after we ordered dinner, the "great wait" happened - it took almost an hour for it to come out. No idea why, but then it did finally arrive and everything straight off the menu was delicious. Unfortunately, those with special diets/requests (sauce on the side, etc) were denied yet again and rather than wait again they just dealt with it. My poor vegetarian mom... too bad. But what we did get was again - amazingly delicious.
Our server was pretty okay at checking with people at the corners of the table, but as the birthday girl in the middle, I tried politely waving (in my awkward "please don't hate me" way) to get her attention but it was very hard to get noticed. I finally did get to order a drink with my dinner but still. They did provide AMAZING desserts on the house for my birthday and that was GREAT. But then the server charged us full price for all those items we originally ordered at happy hour with little concern when we brought it up. She didn't make it right and didn't act like she even cared to try.
So in all, I recommend Chicon BUT check your bill and be wary that you might not get a great server. But your food and the atmosphere will be AMAZING. I'd go again, I'd just ask to be re-sat if I got the same person serving me. :/
The Menu had changed from our previous visit and not for the better. The interior had been remodeled as well, making it look like some kind of hokey Texas Roadhouse. Food was good, but not great. Very loud and not a good spot to go if you actually want to speak to someone. Worst was the service: our server did not come to our table for almost 10 minutes after we sat down. She was nice, but noticeably absent throughout the night. Don't think we'll be going back anytime soon
Brunch is super good we
The restaurant staff has been the worst experience I had in the city. Starting with the hostess, she was rude and disrespectful. The waiter was new and did not know anything about the menu. The food took a while and finally arrived super cold a $80 steak??? I sent it back 3 times and it always returned cold. The manager never showed up or even apologize for the inconvenience. The worse experience I had in the city.
Loved the shared 36 oz t-bone--amazing presentation. The grilled chicken was out of this world . Old fashioned was perfect. Chicken skin sliders and smoked trout dip fantastic. Service was spot-on. Great patio and great weather had us all in a good mood. The old fashioneds helped that along.
Lovely dinner. Great food and atmosphere. All night happy hour on thursdays a bonus!
GREAT food and service!! Definitely worth the stop!
It was amazing!
I have been to Chicon twice and never been disappointed! The first time was with a large group for my Birthday and the second was for Saturday brunch. They acomodares my large group (18) very well for my birthday, were great about splitting checks, and service was amazing for the party size we had. This time for brunch, my experience was equally delightful. Great food, fun/relaxing atmosphere, kind and efficient service, and great cocktails. Love this place and would recommend for fun brunch, lunch or dinner, date nights, girls night out, or large group events!!
First time here and Chicon did a beautiful job taking care of our large party! The food was superb. They took care of us very well.
A fun date night dinner. Inventive snacks including grilled avocado with a delightful bread. Veggie sides of brussel sprouts, was crispy and not too heavy in oil as some are. The delicata squash was sweet and sour. My dining partner had the chicken sandwich but was perfectly crispy with kraut and potato sides. I had cobia with black beans and almond salsa verde.
We loved our drinks, red wine and a manhattan. Suck quality of food for under $100 with easy, comfortable service.
We'll be back!
Overpriced and underwhelming. Disappointing Vday experience.
Went for the pre-fixe Valentine's menu which was really different, not too filling (making for later agility! :)
We tied on the appetizer, entree. Then the dessert cam and that was the tie breaker. My wife normally does a fruity dessert, me chocolate. She liked my brie sandwich with chocolate and hazelnuts over her spice cake with creme, strawberries, tomatoes and granache. Inexpensive Wednesday wine offerings much like we buy at home, so no markup! yay, good job! Great service too. Attentive, but not overbearing.
I mean...this place was fantastic! My friend chicken sandwich was so tender and flavorful (my favorite dish in Austin so far) and my husband loved his burger. Great service, food, and atmosphere. 5+
The food was amazing. Service was good. It was a bit empty and felt a little like we were keeping the staff. The food was awesome!
I went to Chicon for the first time with a few friends for my birthday brunch. The entire staff was so friendly, the restaurant itself was very stylish, and the food was beautiful and delicious! I've already recommended it to several people in the 24 hours since eating there.
