Cosme
What Insiders Are Saying
Cosme is an upscale Mexican restaurant in Flatiron that’s much more approachable than it appears to be.
Es una pena ver que la calidad de la comida ha bajado, pero los precios han subido. En comparación a hace 18 meses, la experiencia culinaria se ha deteriorado... ya no me parece especial como para regresar otra vez a festejar una ocasión especial.
Trust this: AN INSULT TO A NY CITY DINER! FOOD WAS TASTY, ATTRACTIVE AND FOR THE PRICE, AN INSULT TO WHY RUN A RESTAURANT IF YOU DONT WANT TO SERVE PEOPLE. Alas I didn't read this before bit the comment is SHARED. Service was at best "tolerable". Portions were a joke. Prices were sky high. I will NAEVER go back and will be sure other people are spared the embarrassment of bringing a client to such a place. Just DON'T!!
It was fantastic the cocktails were absolutely delicious. Some food was better than others but the lamb belly tacos were some of the best bites I've ever eaten
Overpriced and overrated. Slow service.
Hostess terrible ! Alimentos muy buenos y de buena calidad , meseros súper amables
We wanted to love Cosme. The food was fantastic until we found a hair in one of the dishes. We were ready to overlook it but our server apologized once then carried on the night with terrible service. A fire alarm went off mid way thru our meal and no one came over to explain what was going on. The table next to us contemplated leaving until they flagged down a server to ask what was going on. No one was alerted to the problem otherwise. Then we waited 30 minutes before a different server (not our original) asked us if we need another round of drinks. Overall very bad experience which was a shame because we loved the food. Not worth $300+ bill.
The food was amazing but expensive. Very small tapas portions; one plate is barely enough for two. The Duck Carnitas is a large dish and shareable. Solid dish with layers of flavor and you can dial up the heat as appropriate. A great place to check a box but could never see making this place a regular stop.
Cosme is always a reliable spot for great food, service and an experience.
The food was delicious and everything on the menu is interesting and different. However, portions are so small that you have to order a high number of dishes which makes it a very expensive experience.
Excelente presentación y sabor de todos los platillos, especialmente el cordero con mango y en los postes el Caramelized cacao butter, pistachio sorbet, raspberries y Husk meringue, corn mousse.
While the food itself is excellent, the atmosphere is like an exceptionally loud and crowded W hotel lobby from the early 2000's, while the service falls well below what you would expect at these prices - more in line with a diner. At one point a plate with a small amount of rice in mole sauce ($32) was placed on the table with no silverware, later no knife was provided for a pork chop. The menu itself makes little sense - main courses come with no sides and their are no sides to order, just $30 small salads. Disappointing wine list if you're not looking to spend hundreds.
The food was just ok, not surprisingly good. A bit too noisy in the restaurant
We have dined at Cosme since their grand opening.
The ambiance and atmosphere are very nice but unfortunately the portion sizes are considerably smaller while the prices have dramatically increased.
You are essentially paying entree prices for tapas portions and the meal just isn’t worth the price.
Ridiculously overpriced.
The food is actually quite good, although I found it to be overpriced. Essentially $100 for duck tacos, even if they are meant for two, just doesn't seem right, even in New York. They were good, but not that good. The wine list was also not very extensive, and when ordering by glass the portions were on the smaller side - if you are going to charge $25 for a decent but not great wine, you should at least be more generous with the portions. They also had a non-existent beer list. The only IPA that they served was sold out when we got there at 7:45. This shouldn't happen. The service was also fairly disorganized and there were long periods of time when no one came to refill our water or ask us if we wanted another drink. This restaurant has some potential, but they need to address these problems at the very least. If they want to be a high end restaurant, which they seem to want to do, they need to learn how to do things at a high level. Overall this was a disappointing experience and I would not recommend it to a friend.
Best meal so far this year!
I’d made a reservation for a birthday dinner 30 days in advance to get the right time. Last minute a business trip forced me to cancel the reservation. I got another for another night but a later time. I included a request for an earlier time if possible on special notes on the reservation. No acknowledgement from Cosme. I called multiple times. No one picks up the phone. I went 2.5 hours early to ask again. Had drinks early with a request even for bar seats earlier if possible. After being told by the hostess she’d tell the bar tender to give us 2 seats if they opened, and after hearing the hostess be told 2 people had a reservation at 8 but wanted to stay seated at the bar, we were ignored. The waiter getting us wine at a bar high top said pay attention to the wine. I’ll deal with the table later. Three people left the bar seats and we were not able to get those seats.walk ins got them. We finally got seated 15 minutes early and the staff did not help get drinks to the table. With all the winter gear, I couldn’t carry the wine. It was tossed. Our new waiter did bring another glass so kudos to him. Bottom line, for such a “nice” restaurant there is much lacking in terms of fine service. I’ve been to Cosme a number of times, sat at the bar (yup, those infamous bar stools are tricky), and it’s always been wonderful. Special occasions? Never again. We were surprised at how unimpressive the care is they gave to us. Extremely disappointing. We can go many places for those prices and I’d rather go where we are shown care. The food is beautiful, though I feel they keep getting smaller!! And the vibe is there. But too many missed opportunities to make the night a little special.
Ive been to cosme 3 years ago. The food quality has decreased dramatically. Dont order the FISH WRAPPED IN A LEAF ( it was dry possibly smaller then a 2 oz portion and overpriced) uni taco and sruffed avocado was off from
Their menu which didnt make sense as these were the dishes they become popular for
Also it was my boyfriends birthday, i requested a birthday cake surprise and the manager confirmed my request via email, and the waiter didnt know anything about the occasion. He offered us the dessert menu post dinner. So my whole surprise got destroyed not that the mains (fish and the pork arrived to our table very cold)
A fantastic dining experience! Duck carnitas were amazing!!
Way overpriced - duck carnitas for $98 - are you kidding! Absolutely not even close to being worth price. Also, the guacamole is better at Chipotle!
To be ranked on the world top 50 we expected the quality of the food, service and ambiance to be on par with others on the list we have visited (Alinea and Saison). This was a far cry from either of those. The signature dish - duck carnitas - was good but not mind-blowing good. When ordering wine with the first course after cocktails, the wine came after we finished the course and didn't actually get what we ordered. To be fair, the waiter removed the two glasses of wine from the bill and comped us an additional appetizer.
If it were any other restaurant these sort of misteps it would be ok. The overall meal would be good - albeit over priced for what it was - but just not what you expect from such an acclaimed restaurant.
Was a special Birthday
Great and unusual flavors
Outstanding as always. This time new additions to the menu were amazing.
Services is great and very friendly.
Cannot be any better Mexican cuisine in NYC.
One of the better vibes in NYC and great food. Unfortunate that the service was consistenly poor throughout the night otherwise it would have been one of my absolute favorite spots in the city.
One dish was too spicy to eat. Server acknowledged they had a problem with that dish.
Should have told us and not suggested it.
Visually stunning restaurant and plates. Actual food and service was very so and so, and certainly not worth the price.
I may be the only person on the planet who doesn't think this place is fabulous. The guac was outstanding in every way but past that I found the prawn tostada unappealing to look at and almost unedible and other courses just meh. So really disappointed I don't mind paying for good food but this was not good. Maybe an off day but at those prices I am not going back.
Could have had a bit more attention to whether we were happy with our drinks (they come out a bit slow too). But doesn't distract from the food was absolutely great. Ambiance more suited for a more intimate friend gathering - noise level was a bit too much for business.
Wonderful dining experience. My girlfriend recommended and was truly impressed.
Food was exceptional but came with exceptional prices. Classic almost non-existent portion for a full entre price. I don't really understand the hype. Lamb belly was my favourite dish but after dining in NYC at restaurants like Hakkansan and Tao for less money I don't see the appeal here. Service was okay, knowledgeable but not overly friendly nor remarkably fast.
*There is a hilarious easter egg in the cocktail menu that I don't want to spoil for anyone attending but give it a good read for a good laugh ;)
My second time at Cosme. Love the outstanding food as well as the vibe. Our experience this last time was marred by the fact that our main course came shortly after we received our appetizers. The entire experience was rushed. Hopefully this won't be the case next time.
As always an exceptional experience. The staff is amazing and they never disappoint no matter how busy or slow, 6p or 11p they are courteous and helpful. Fabiola and Michael took care of us this week at the bar and their recommendations were flawless and conversation just the right combination of playful and professional. A truly unique experience— cant recommend it enough.
amazing experience! waiter was very knowledgeable and explain in very good detail all our questions of the menu. Hard menu for a no meat eater though. portions of some of the dishes were small and price too high!
the beverages were really slow in coming but they were delicious!
Too noisy an atmosphere if you actually want to have a conversation.
Cosmetic deserves its ranking as one of the 50 best restaurants in the World. That says it all.
Best pork chop ever. Everything else was very good.
Some dishes very good (duck and crab). Others not good at al. We sent back the fish appetizer and the bok choy. The fish main was flavorless and disappointing.
Additionally, a restaurant should be politics-free. It’s s time to relax and enjoy your food, friends, ambiance and experience. However, having a major political, and frankly, vulgar statement (f word used) regarding the controversial wall building issue in a drink description is unnecessary, disturbing, distracting and tactless, no matter how you stand on the issue. We deal with this on a daily basis in every form of media and conversation. Dining at a restaurant should allow time to decompose.
Incredible flavors but $70 bucks for a small pizza is crazy. Waiter told us to order 3-4 items each from the menu. We ordered 5 between the two of us and that was plenty. With one cocktail each and 5 items plus dessert, total bill with tip was $350.00 for two people. Bring your money cause you’re going to need a lot of it!
I went for brunch and not dinner and the menu was very different from the dinner one. The food was good but nothing out of this world. The service was quite bad.
