Typical Cottons dishes include jerk chicken; homemade curried mutton; and Cottons most popular vegetarian dish Chaguanas Dinner Plate - chana dhal curry served with black eyed bean, chick pea and callaloo fritters, and plantain. All jerk meats at Cottons are grilled and smoked over coals and oak wood chips with hickory and pimiento and covered in Cottons homemade jerk sauce.
Cocktails are predominantly rum-based featuring Cottons originals like Sorrell Sling – beefeater gin, homemade sorrel squash, fresh lemon, creme de casssis and soda water; Cottons Punch and Killer Doppi made from four different rums.
Book on the morning which was great for the part of 10 nice ambiance sunny September Sunday. Unfortunately half of the food was unavailable to order. I was quickly told nicely by one of the staff. Disappointed as the weekend was predicted to be hot so why run out of food. No beef, no curry coat, no Jerk chicken. No one eats pork so we were limited to Oxtail not my personal favorite so choice limited.
Had a beautiful dinner on the outside. Selection of desserts much toooo sweet cut down on the sugar please. I have the mango pie with ice cream just a mouthful of sugar Im afraid more tropical options please.
Great ambience, value for ur £
We were there for a 80th birthday meal with my children's Jamaican grandmother. Staff were very helpful, the food met her expectations and we had a great time. Kids options were a little limited, and in my view the burger and mac and cheese were a bit complex for young kids and didn't go down well.
Great location, great service, the food was amazing and we will definitely return
I have recommend cottons to friends the food is delicious but the service was a let down. I hope they have a better experience they have made reservations for this month.
Really good food and the waiting time wasn’t long at all. Lovely staff
Caught up with an old school friend during his visit from Canada 🇨🇦 - outside seating by the river which was gorgeous - I’m regular here but normally eat indoors so change was welcome.
We had Saltfish Fritters to start which were delightful. The Oxtail for main. Both were fresh, well presented and authentic in taste as usual. We both had pincolada as drinks which were also beautiful in taste and presentation. Service attentive and friendly as always. Highly recommend Cottons.
Such a disappointment. Non existent service. Had to leave the table and walk up to a waiter every time we wanted service as we were ignored by staff who were all strolling up and down the restaurant joking with each other and not doing any actual waiting on tables. Over staffed and empty restaurant so no excuse for this shocking experience.
No atmosphere. Very average food, nothing special at all, such a shame as had such high hopes! Then they had the audacity to charge £10 table service for a table of 3!
Amazing cocktails with great variety and true representation of culture. I didn’t get much food but what I had wasn’t up to par with the price (I would be back to give it a try nonetheless). Staff were brilliant and friendly, atmosphere was full of good energy, music selection 10/10
Poor service, broken high chair and baby fell out, not asked how meal was during or after meal. Knives and folks dirty.
Our food was served luke warm with half of it missing. Our wine was bought out when we had finished eating.
I always enjoying cottons the staff are attentive to your needs. My only gripe is there dessert menu should be more as the carribean have alot to offer e.g Rum n Rasin ice cream, Carrot Cake, Rum Cake etc. They could start with a trial run and see how it goes. The music is lively not to loud, cocktails could do with more alcohol.
Lovely restaurant, looked really nice, great location with outside seating, however we couldn't really use as was a little bit chilly outside. Staff were friendly and helpful, as was the manager and they ensured drinks were filled up ( for those that ordered bottomless) and ensured you were happy with the food that was ordered. Food was enjoyed by all, and my sister is now looking forward to going back as she enjoyed the chicken so much.
We arrived at Cottons on a Friday evening after work and after overcoming the inevitable Central London parking issue, 3 hrs free parking at the nearby supermarket.
On arrival we were greeted politely and given a choice of an inside or outside table, as it was a warm evening we choose to sit outside the only downside being a lack of ambience with no music playing.
Service was prompt and polite and our drinks order was taken quickly but unfortunately the drinks arrived after our meal. The meal was very well presented and well seasoned with well cooked and flavoured rice. I had the Mixed Jerk Grill Platter and my partner had the Cottons Curried Mutton. There was one piece of pork rib on my plate that was really badly cooked and for this to be present on such a good plate of food was really disappointing..
My partner had the Pineapple cocktail and she was very pleased and kept telling me how strong it was which apparently is a good thing.
In summary we enjoyed our first visit to Cottons Vauxhall and would recommend for a nice Caribbean experience especially not too busy.
It was such a disappointing experience which started with us seeing a rat outside (think that was a sign)!
We sat inside having initially been told by the manager that the Resturant was closed even though I had booked and received confirmation. He then realised this and we sat inside. We ordered the saltfish fritters which were mediocre in taste! The portion sizes were very small for the price (only 3 small ball type fritters).
For the main, we ordered the seafood curry, which sounded delicious but tasted uncooked . The tiny bowl of rice was un unfulfilling and we ended up not finishing the meal. We definitely won't be going back there again. It is such a shame, as some of the reviews were positive and the venue was lovely.
Would definitely recommend to friends. Service just needs to be more attentive. Friday night wasn’t overly busy however trying to get attention from staff wasn’t easy. The food was amazing which made up a little bit for lack of attention. Third time eating at this venue and I would say this has been my experience 2/3 times.
Friendly service albeit not the fastest, great spot by the river and some wicked fish cakes!
Lovely Caribbean food.
It was a busy evening and although I'd booked a table outside there wasn't one available on arrival. We were eventually seated at the high table outside. The order taking was chaotic - we ended up being served by 3 different people and had to keep making sure we would not have a double order of everything. Some of the food options on the menu were not available. Although the final waiter we had, really did try to make us feel comfortable.
The last straw was a group of men from a party of sorts, spread-ed out from their area over into the space around our table and blocking the walkway into the restaurant. Not only did they shout so loudly, we could not hear ourselves but they continuously encroached on us so much so, that there were physically contact (which was quite uncomfortable).
I complained to the staff who asked them to back up; they shifted away but soon reverted. We had to leave the restaurant before we intended to (and without dessert).
Awful service, had to ask for menus, for table to be cleared and ordered drinks three times. After an hour we hadn’t even received water for the table so we left. Lots of staff but no one seemed to be co-ordinating and no-one knew what to do. Lots of people complaining about orders being incorrect. Food and drinks looked good and setting is great but our experience was awful.
Very quiet ambiance but food was outstanding. I’m looking to go again!
Sat outside with views of the Thames. It was bottomless brunch time so staff seemed to attend more to those customers however they were extremely helpful and polite when called over. Cocktails powerful and flavoursome. Food was prompt, tasty and generous portions.
Music wasn’t on outside but wicked reggae music playing inside:
Overall a nice meal out. Would recommend at least once
The restaurant was extremely busy and the service was extremely slow. Waited 2 hours for our food. Some of the waiters was helpful but some had a little bit of an attitude. Also being sat next to the door meant that there was a constant draft. The restaurant did acknowledge the slow service and discounted our bill but it was a slight let down for Father’s Day.
Some things wasn’t available and we wasn’t told until quite a long time after waiting.
Plus second rounds of drinks was ordered and we was told wasn’t ordered.
Overall brilliant food and service. Slight issues with one of the waitresses but this did not put a downer on the evening thankfully.
We visited on a Saturday night for my 33rd birthday.
I did request when I booked that they make it abit special in whichever way they could for my birthday but this did not happen.
The atmosphere is lovely; colourful decor and great music playing whilst you dine.
We ordered the saltfish fritters and the sweet potato cakes for starters. Both were disappointing. There was no saltfish in our fritters and the sweet potato cakes were oily.
I had the mutton with rice and peas for my main. The mutton itself was lovely and soft but missing something. I could taste a hint of spice but not much else. The rice and peas were mediocre.
My cousin and sister both ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas but they disappointed.
I did order a side of plantain and on the way home realised this never came.
The cocktail...cottons rum punch I think it was was delicious. We agreed we'd go back in summertime for cocktails!
Atmosphere and service was great, but not overly fussed about the food unfortunately.
Excellent tasting food value for money. Lively after work vibes try and grab a river view if the suns out.
Waiting time slightly long but the food was worth the wait!
Reasonable prices, bargain happy hour, delicious food and great selection of cocktails... highly recommend! Lovely staff, only disappointed is the lack of choice around veggie/vegan options
Had a great sharing platter of jerk chicken /pork and lamb....really tasty and went well with rice and peas and a side of macaroni pie and coleslaw . Cocktails were good, Banks beer also my fave from Barbados. Great service ,staff were happy to recommend food and cocktails ...overall really enjoyable ...manager however needs to smile a bit more and look like he wants to be there !! His staff are working hard !
The waiting staff we really friendly and attentive. The calamari was so good! I would definitely go back.
Really impressed with Cottons in Vauxhall, myself and my partner love Caribbean food but can find it hard to find a nice restaurant to dine in as most Caribbean restaurants are take away or are a large chain where the food is not as authentic. The restaurant itself is lovely, really well decorated and clean, also very large with an outside area with a view of the river - stunning! The service was very good and the staff were accommodating and friendly. The food and drink was amazing really tasty, well presented and very generous portion sizes! The drinks menu was huge with a long list of fun cocktails (also unlike other London restaurants they were not stingy with the alcohol!!) (go east on the punch!) we also loved that there were not too many options on the menu, this kept it easy to decide on what to order with lots of sides! I would highly recommend Cottons and will be coming back very soon!!!
10/10 food and service will defo be coming back just wish I didn’t close so early
A fun selection of Caribbean cocktails and tasty-looking dishes, however several in our party were disappointed with the standard of the food unfortunately. Very friendly and helpful staff, and a nice vibe.
Good Caribbean flavours, quick service and good location very near vauxhall and right on the river.
I've been to Cotton's a few times and this is the only time I've been slightly disappointed. The food was great as usual, but I wasn't happy about being overcharged for cocktails and after informing staff it was my friend's birthday and asking if they do anything to celebrate, and being told 'leave it with me', we were given a birthday dessert which ended up being on the bill, even though we weren't informed of this. Overall I still enjoyed my experience, but if you're going to tell a customer you offer something, it would be good to know you're charging them for it and not just adding it to the bill without their knowledge.
This restaurant is certainly a Jewell in London's crown. All dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. Great atmosphere and perfect location. Will visit again very soon.
Having enjoyed Carribbean food in other places, our entire group were excited to visit Cottons and try the great looking food on the menu. We were all very disappointed in the food were served. I had Jerk Pork and the Boston Bay Pork belly. Apart from the cut of meat they were identical in having virtually no flavour. Both cuts had been covered with the same black molassesy sauce. The jerk pork was totally lacking in zest, fresh flavours and most notably, spice. An almost total lack of chilli. I'm not one of those who need scotch bonnets to get a chilli hit. A nice buzz of spice is good though and this had none. On all 8 plates, (4 starters and 4 mains) only the small bowl of dall curry served to my wife had any significant flavour at all. We all agreed it was the worst lunch any of us had ever had. We wouldn't recommend Cottons to others and will look elsewhere for fresher spicier flavours next time we want Carribbean food.
Staff were very welcome and relaxed - gave us time to drink and eat at our own speed. Really nice to just be able to sit and enjoy our sinner.
