El Che Steakhouse & Bar, Chicago's Argentine-influenced resto-bar, is Executive Chef/Partner John Manion’s homage to the steak-heavy traditions of Argentina's Asador. Located just beyond the West Loop’s famed “restaurant row”, El Che opened in 2016 and has quickly built a reputation as Chicago's go-to destination for beef, wine, and live-fire cooking. Started with the empanadas which were great -- the beef being the standout. The jus served with the filet would be amazing on just about anything. Also, drinking half off wine is a great way to spend a Monday in a really beautiful atmosphere. Service could have been better.

El Che was such a special experience. The staff made sure our anniversary celebration was memorable. I highly recommend for a special occasion or date night. The food is incredible, the wine/beer selection is fabulous, and the staff is so smart, knowledgeable and friendly.

Everything we ordered was delicious and we cleared our plates! We had the three empanadas, my favorite was the kale and gruyere, so good we ordered a second one. The steak was perfectly cooked, all the sides were delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back

Love everything about Che: Cocktails! Gnocchi! Empanadas! Perfectly grilled meat! Chimichurri! Oh, and our server was a delight. Can’t wait to return.

Nice martini poured. Good wine list and the rib eye forget about it! Sides very good and were the oysters. We enjoyed the experience a very nice atmosphere.

Overall an excellent experience. In a party of 6, all the food items were very good to excellent, save for the short ribs which were inedible due to the amount of fat and gristle. Too bad as the flavor was delicious. The other steaks were very good (not premier steakhouse level but very good), the small plates and starters were all delicious. I could have had the pimento cheese appetizer as my meal. Very good cocktails, the females loved the ambiance, and the service was enjoyable. Will definitely return.

Even though we were late for our reservation, we got to sit. The food and cocktails were delicious and served super fast. I loved the interior, very nicely done!

Loved our dinner at El Che. Our server, Bridget, made great suggestions since it was our first time there. Both of our dinners were delicious and we had a great bottle of wine. We will definitely return for another dinner.

Great food and service. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and gave us gooD advice about the number of dishes we should order. My husband, who is not a kale eater tried the kale empanada and declared it 'delicious'.

My fiancé and I recently came here for Valentine's day dinner. The service was great and the meal was ultimately very good. The only disappointing aspect of the meal was the main course - we ordered a ribeye and were not blown away by the steak or the chimichurri. Given the nature of the restaurant, we expected that to be the best part of the meal. Still a good experience overall.

Been to El Che before and had a great meal. This time was just so so and the service was subpar. Found a rubber band in our broccolini that I almost consumed. Barely received an apology. The server never acknowledged it. The person who brought out the new dish made a joke about it. No check back was done when the new dish hit the table. To top it all off we were still charged for it. Based on tonight’s experience I would probably not go back.

Got the ribeye and it ordered medium rare which the server recommended. Normally we are fine with it but it was so rare neither my boyfriend or I could eat it. Also there was not a ton of flavor. Disappointed. Small serving but yummy potatoes though. Sad they were out of the garlic frites.

Our service was poor. My husband and I started by ordering off the restaurant week menu. He ordered the same meal and she assumed we were sharing. My husband ordered his ribeye Medium Plus and it came out dry and extremely well done. When we we asked her, she said that is how they cook medium plus and was argumentative. She brought out another steak that was closer to medium rare and we just sent it back. They sent out gelato when I complained to the manager.

The server took more than 20 min to bring our drinks. When she came our wine pours were the equivalent to a tasting (I’m a certified sommelier). The food was mediocre. I don’t recommend the oysters! We’ve been here before and it was better so I don’t know what happened this time but we won’t be back.

We went for restaurant week and had an opportunity to try some of their dishes. Everything was delicious! The carrots were my favorite menu item. Service was great. Drinks were good. We were seated at their community table and it was great because we were able to see the how the food was being prepped. The table is definitely roomier than the other tables so a big bonus for us. Would definitely recommend and we can’t wait to go back.

Great ambiance! Nice wine and bar selection. I was disappointed with the food. Non authentic. Disappointed with Steak. Bland/Dry.....not reflective of the Argentinian cuisine.

Empanadas, steak tartare, and El Che steak were amazing! BUT the arugula salad with a creole vinaigrette was the STAR of the night. I’m still thinking about it being the best salad I’ve ever had! 1/2 off bottles of wine on Monday so I’d say overall we will be back again!

The food is as good as it gets. The wine list is comprehensive for the ethnicity it represents. Try the grilled oysters and the steak tartare. It's our third visit and we will definitely be going back

Nice contemporary bar. Food was excellent, thoroughly enjoyed the charred carrots, gulf shrimp, and French onion empanadas. I went during restaurant week and plan on returning in the future

Went for restaurant week. The quality of the food was subpar. The ribeye tasted like they got the meat from Jewel. The old fashioned was really good. Overall we were not impressed. You can throw a dart at a restaurant board and find a better option for the money.

Dishes tasted good but none of the food was hot. Empanadas were the best part. The meal was certainly not worth the price we paid for the meal. Server was attentive, friendly, and helpful.

Great restaurant and ambiance.
Staff was really attentive and on top of their game.
The only setback was the kitchen making the steak way too salty and the salmon was undercooked. However, they quickly fired up a new one for us.

Overall, good place.
