Fontana at the Biltmore Hotel delivers an exceptional dining experience that perfectly balances elegance, ambiance, and culinary execution. The setting itself is stunning—classic Mediterranean architecture surrounding a serene courtyard fountain, creating a refined yet inviting atmosphere. For our entrée, we selected the snapper, prepared with a delicate white wine sauce, complemented by asparagus and capers. The dish was outstanding—perfectly cooked, moist, and flavorful, with the wine reduction adding a subtle depth that enhanced the natural freshness of the fish. The capers brought a well-balanced brightness, while the asparagus was crisp and expertly prepared, rounding out the dish with precision. Service was attentive, professional, and well-paced, reflecting the high standards expected from a property like the Biltmore. The team demonstrated strong knowledge of the menu and wine pairings, contributing to a seamless dining experience. Overall, Fontana remains a top-tier destination for both business dinners and special occasions—where ambiance, service, and cuisine consistently align at a high level.

It was beautiful sitting out by the fountain. I have food allergies and our waitress was really helpful in finding me something I could eat. Food was delicious. Great wine list!

We always enjoy dining at the Fontana restaurant. The service is excellent and the ambience around the fountain is just beautiful. We usually eat there before we see a play at the Gables stage and they always serve our food promptly so that we can get to the theater in time which is adjacent to the Biltmore hotel. So it is a wonderful restaurant for pre theater dining. The menu changes somewhat but we always find something delicious to order.

We celebrated our anniversary dinner here last night, and the entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. The food was absolutely outstanding, and full of flavor. What truly took the evening over the top, though, was the service. Our server, Edwin, made us feel genuinely welcomed and celebrated, turning a wonderful meal into a truly memorable experience. His attentiveness, warmth, and attention to detail made us feel so special. This is a stunning restaurant with incredible food and service to match. We would highly recommend it and cannot wait to return.

The problem with this restaurant is that, despite having a reservation for an outdoor table on the patio, you never actually get one. This is our fifth visit, as we are staying at the hotel. The dishes were significantly less good than on previous occasions. It was very disappointing tonight—the chef must not have been there! The restaurant this evening was not worthy of the establishment. Besodes, the table was not ready on time.

What a lovely setting, and the food was good, but the service on nearly every level made the entire experience really close to terrible. The hostess was initially absent, I found her setting tables. She was dismissive about seating us, and not friendly or warm. Our server was a lovely person, brought bread and olive oil oil, but no plates , never brought the wine we ordered, brought the wrong salad, completely forgot one entrée (of two)…. we finally asked to speak to a manager who was in another venue….. when he finally arrived, he did listen to our debacale of an experience, suggested a few remedies and then he left, but did not communicate his decisions with the server. It got a lot more confusing before the night was over relative to what exactly we were paying for… The food we did receive was very good and the atmosphere was lovely, but I cannot recommend this restaurant for obvious reasons.

FAQs

Portions are generally moderate, most guests find dishes well-presented but some say portions lean small for the price. Several guests described entrees and pasta as slightly smaller than expected, while others noted full-sized multi-course holiday meals. If you prefer heartier plates, consider sharing an antipasto and ordering a side or extra pasta; many guests enjoy splitting starters and mains to sample more dishes.

Fontana’s atmosphere is widely described as romantic, historic and elegant, think a Mediterranean-style courtyard with a fountain, soft live guitar or chamber music, and classic Italian touches. Guests love the “transported to Europe” feeling. Be aware some guests report occasional issues: loud ballroom or wedding music, cigar smoke drifting into the courtyard, or service delays on very busy nights. Overall it’s a charming spot, choose outdoor courtyard seating for the full ambience.

Yes, you can and should make special requests. Guests report asking staff to accommodate allergies, seating preferences (courtyard seating), and occasion details (anniversaries), and servers often try to help. That said, several guests also report occasional mix-ups with seating or staff communication, so call the restaurant or the hotel ahead to confirm important requests for seating, dietary needs or celebratory touches.

Families do dine here, and guests often bring teens or celebrate birthdays with children, so it is family-friendly in that sense. There isn’t a widely advertised kids’ menu currently, several guests asked for one or missed it, so younger children may have limited options. For family visits consider an earlier seating, share pasta dishes or call ahead to ask about kid-friendly menu flexibility.

Yes, Fontana is a popular choice for a romantic date night. Guests frequently praise the picturesque courtyard with a fountain, soft live music and an intimate dining vibe that feels like dining in a European piazza. Expect white-tablecloth service, a thoughtful wine list and house-made pastas that suit special occasions. Note occasional issues guests report (noise from nearby weddings or cigar smoke on busy nights); for a quieter evening request courtyard seating and an early reservation.

The dress code is business casual. Guests typically dress smart-casual or hotel-appropriate for the historic Biltmore setting, think neat, polished attire suitable for a romantic dinner or special occasion. If you have a formal event or private function, confirm expectations when booking.

Busiest: weekend evenings, holiday nights (Valentine’s, Christmas, New Year’s), Miami Spice events, and nights with hotel weddings or theater performances, guests frequently report busy service and louder ambience then. Quietest: midweek evenings and weekday lunches tend to be calmer; early dinner seatings and Sunday brunches before peak hours can also be more relaxed.

Yes, Fontana operates on many public holidays and often offers special prix-fixe holiday menus (Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Day brunch). Guests report dining there for holiday meals, though some holiday service experiences are mixed, so check the special menu and reserve in advance for holiday events.

Yes, the courtyard with fountain is Fontana’s signature outdoor dining area. Many guests highlight the covered courtyard, fountain views, live music and “European” alfresco feeling. Outdoor seating is popular, so request it when you reserve; on very busy nights weather/heat or adjacent events can affect the outdoor experience.

Midweek (Tuesday–Thursday) evenings are often the best choice for a quieter, more relaxed meal. If you prefer a lively but still pleasant experience, Sunday brunch or Miami Spice lunch can be great, both are popular with guests but less likely to have the weekend wedding/bass noise that some report on Saturdays. Always reserve ahead for holidays or theater nights.

Fontana serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on a regular schedule. Current hours listed by the restaurant are: Breakfast Mon–Sat 7:00 am–11:00 am, Brunch Sun 10:00 am–3:00 pm, Lunch Mon–Sat 11:30 am–3:00 pm, Dinner Daily 6:00 pm–10:00 pm. For holidays or special events (prix-fixe menus) hours may vary, so call ahead if you’re visiting on a holiday.

Families do dine at Fontana and guests often celebrate birthdays and anniversaries here, so it’s family-friendly in practice. Many parties bring teens or sit with family in the courtyard. Accessibility specifics aren’t detailed in the available information, so if you need wheelchair access or other accommodations, call ahead, staff have handled allergy and seating requests for guests in the past.

For a peaceful experience, midweek evenings or weekday lunches are best. Guests recommend early dinner seatings for prompt service (useful for pre-theater meals at the adjacent Gables Stage). Sunday brunch and Miami Spice lunches are popular but can be busy. Avoid Saturday nights or dates when the hotel has weddings, guests report loud music and bass from ballroom events on some weekends.
