Girl & the Goat opened in 2010 with the goal of serving a family style menu of tasty, bold flavored foods in a fun and lively setting. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of fun cocktails created by our bartenders.

Located at 809 W Randolph, Girl & the Goat was one of the first establishments in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor. We offer a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

Very nice place but the plates are really small even for sharing. Also over priced for the amount of food. But the food is tasty. Not a restaurant for hungry people.

Goat empanadas were great. I love shared plates, too. The cocktails delivered on their flavors, too. Service was very prompt. Worth the off-hours reservation.

Great food and service. Highly recommend the pork shank and the short ribs. We had a party of 3 and we were squished into a small today, but besides that great experience.

We had a fun and romantic time enjoying a series of delicious plates as they were brought out in sequence. As they came out, each plate was a fun opportunity to taste new things, enjoy the exploration together, and steer the conversation in different directions. Everything was great but the halibut was out of this world.

The waitress told me we got "the best seats in the house". She sat us at counter by food service/preparation area. Although it was neat to see the food prepped, I would've preferred a regular table.

I had VERY high expectations for this place. After all, we visited from DC to Chicago just for a little bit of food-tour of this city. This is going to be long, so sit back and be prepared for an honest review.

First off, Girl and the Goat was VERYYYY loud, tables were tightly packed together (so much that the person sitting next to me elbowed me a few times...UGH!), and music seemed like blaring horns. And when everything is loud, literally everyone has no choice but to scream on top of their voices to make whoever you came with hear what you are saying. We could barely even hear our server. It's almost like a loud dive bar.

We made a reservation for 10pm and got seated around 10:30pm. This place was a mad-house with no place to stand in the wait area. Servers/people were flying by constantly. To have to wait in the middle of all movement for 30 mins after making a reservation was the biggest disappointment.

As for food, it was mediocre and don't expect to be blown away. You get tapas style shareable plates that are just okay. I felt like the plates could have been better with slight modifications, e.g. a little less salt, or less acid or little less richness in some dishes would have made the dishes perfect. EVERY single thing that we got, except the dessert, was flawed and took away from the food experience. We got - pan fried shishito peppers, chickpea fritter, spiced shrimp, pan roasted halibut, goat empanadas, miso caramel soaked sponge cake. And all of this is NOT CHEAP. Did it satisfy the price we paid? - Nope! I would have gotten better food off of a food truck.

Very disappointing and we do not recommend this place unless you like REALLY loud places serving pricey but mediocre food. I does not live up to the hype.

Went and reserved a table 2 months ahead, with a note requesting a high chair for my little one. they called 2 days prior to confirm the reservation was still valid. Then off we go on a Thursday evening, me and my wife and 2 girls went 10 minutes earlier at 620pm and they were ready with our table, high chair already setup. Food was good, overall portion was a little smaller than expected. Glad we order the pork shank and that one filled us up at last. Finally they surprised us with a nice small treat for our anniversary. Hint: you could order half size veggie dishes to try more of it.

Although the food was outstanding, the delivery of the food was very rushed.
If I am going to pay that much for a celebratory meal I would like to savor it.
The bus people were trying to take our dishes before we were even done.
Why do we rush our dinner experiences in America?

Gorgeous food, I would definitely return when visiting Chicago again. Great music and atmosphere, attentive staff. The only thing that let them down was the order in which they bought the dishes, it was sort of in dribs and drabs. It almost reminded me of being at a Tapas

Foodie here who loves to try James Beard/Michelin restaurants. During this long weekend trip to Chicago had many reservations for the areas top restaurants. The G & the G was top on my list as I have followed Chef Izard since "Top Chef". Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed maybe my expectations were too HIGH. We ordered 5 dishes: Roasted beet salad 1st bite delicious, beets roasted perfectly with a mild flavor and fresh crispy frisee and then we tasted the "funky" white anchovy which ruined the entire taste. The dish would have been perfection without the anchovy. Sometimes one can go 1 step too far which can turn an exceptional dish into an unpleasant one. Another example of going 1 step too far with multiple flavors was the pan roasted halibut. This halibut was cooked to perfection crisp outside delicate soft moist flakes inside. The problem with this dish was the blueberry nuoc cham.....not a fan. We had the wood fired oysters which fell a little flat...not much flavor. Also ordered the goat liver mousse which in itself was delicious however liver mousse needs exceptional accompaniments and this is where it disappoints. The vessel served with this dish were these small "crumpet" type breads that were way too soft in my opinion. I would have enjoyed this mousse with a crispy crunchy toasted bread maybe wood fired toasted nut bread. On to another dish....Short ribs. Very tender and flavorful however the grapefruit chermoula (not a traditional chermoula) needed to be balanced with a tad bit of sweetener because it was too acidic and needed balance perhaps a drop of honey. The ambiance was enjoyable. I didn't find it uncomfortably loud as we were able to carry on a conversation. The open kitchen was fun as we liked to watch the bustling chefs cooking. Our server was very good. She was friendly and helped with explaining the menu choices. Overall I am glad we had the opportunity to try this restaurant and I think I will come back to try other dishes.

Truly some of the best food I’ve ever had. My coworkers insisted that I try the roasted pig face. Although nervous that a whole pig head would appear on my table, we ordered it and I’m enthralled we did. It was easily one of the best things I’ve ever had. Truly delicious. Much of the menu is just a touch outside of my comfort zone, but I’m glad my date and I were adventurous at trying new things. Everything we had—even the vegetables—were perfection.

We went to celebrate a 30th birthday and had travelled from Vancouver BC and from Scotland. We expected it to be good but it was much better than that. The pan fried Shisito peppers were engraved with Parmesan- delicious and the Ducks tongue gets a particular mention. The service was laid back and very knowledgable. We had a bottle of Cava and a very good Barolo. We had a really great time and recommend it anyone visiting Chicago who wants something memorable but laid back. Thank you the Girl and the Goat.

Wow! The service from the moment you walk in until you leave is some of the best I have seen, thank you Owen, just the right amount not pushy but full awareness as to our needs, pleasant and knowledgeable. The food, the flavors are fantastic, we had the Green Beans, the broccoli, the Goat Satay and the Pig Face, each with its own unique and distinctive flavor, hand down favorite were the green beans. We had space for desserts they finished the meal with a standing ovation, the corn and caramel balls was unbelievable. The final surprise was the check, which I considered very reasonable.

It lives up to the hype. It's expensive, but well worth it if you can swing it. The flavors are so different from anything we'd ever tasted. We had a caramel ice cream served with caramel popcorn that was so clever and we joke that it's all we can think about.
