First time for a girlfriends dinner. Although my medium rare burger came to the table a little more cooked than expected, it tasted great! The outdoor seating on a beautiful summer night will have both of us bringing our spouses back for more!
I would have given a higher score for service (because our waiter was amazing and so attentive to our needs) except the front of house staff we’re lacking customer service. We requested outdoor seating and when we arrived there was a 30 minute wait, which was fine with us since we enjoyed a great cocktail at the bar to start. Soon 30 minutes turned into an hour and front of house staff seemed unapologetic when we asked for an update. It could’ve been redeemable maybe if offered a free drink or app while we waited especially since the guys standing next to us were given a free dessert just for having to stand at the bar. Definitely didn’t make us feel special.
We went for our anniversary. Great food and enjoyed sitting outside. Service was warm, welcome and very responsive
This used to be a dependable date night place with my wife. Now its just not worth going. A couple significant things have changed:
1) As a guy, I like meat choices and they really only have a fru fru pork chop and a skirt steak.
2) They don't allow us to bring wine in any more. Now the wine list is filled with either ridiculously up-charged reds or non main stream selections that noone would know the normal market price for.
3) Prices are way too high for what we received; we can go to Abagails, Minos, or Evanston for better food and drink
This was our first time and will not be our last. Our server, Carlos, was excellent and the food was beyond delicious and plated exquisitely.
The manager was very quick to solve, what he perceived as an issue, which wasn’t. We liked how attentive everyone was
Looking forward to dining at dinner time soon.
This was our 7th or 8th visit to Guildhall. We love the ambience and the people watching. The food has always been good-but-not-great, but we're willing to trade that off for the ambience - especially on a warm evening sitting by the window with the windows open. The bar has also always been a big draw, and while they still have one of the two bartenders we're big fans of, the other has unfortunately moved on and his replacement lacked his personality. (She seemed a bit nervous and downbeat.) Still a good choice overall. And if the quality of the food ever matches the appeal of the ambience, the place will be off the charts.
A real treasure in Chicago's North Shore! We had brunch here twice over the past weekend and loved both our meals. Great pain perdu, pancakes and chilaquiles.
The atmosphere is so wonderful. Very clean and crisp but also cozy! The food was phenomenal! I will absolutely
Be coming back!
The quality of food is decreasing and the prices are now unreasonably high. $17 for a salad with 4 small thin strips of octopus was ridiculous. They claimed there were 4 oz of octopus but in reality there was 1 oz. service became disorganized. A side dish for an entree arrived 25 minutes after the entree itself. We will not come back.
Loved the vibe. Very noisy. Food was good
Great food with attentive service. Sat by the open windows in front - very enjoyable setting on a warm summer night.
Great as always! Love the fact you can sit outside and watch the world go by!!
Outstanding service in a charming quaint town setting. Good portions with nice presentation. Sea bass and filet were both cooked to perfection.
This was our first brunch at the Guildhall. The food was delicious and we enjoyed sitting outside.
Great food and drinks. We arrived early and were seated right away.
This was my third meal at Guild Hall and each one has been excellent. The food is creative and delicious. Service has always been outstanding. Unfortunately, it was a bit noisy, but that is to be expected on a busy Saturday night.
Consistently great food, service, and ambience
WONDERFUL Northshore find! Great atmosphere, service and food. We will certainly be back~
Went on a locals recommendation and it did not disappoint!
Service kind but very slow
Five stars for sure, only down side is you’re crammed in and unable to speak to anyone at your table unless you’re into screaming or speaking abnormally loud. A place where people go to be seen ..... a real people watching place, fun, great drinks , just plan on being a bit horse the next day. Been there twice and probably will go again, but during more quiet hours :-).
Everything was good but for the burned pancakes. We sent them back and had more burned pancakes returned. Other than that, good experience.
Wonderful staff. Menu is not overly abundant which translates into every dish is perfect. I had their modern take on fish and chips which was delicious and my wife had the steak with horseradish sauce. The complimenting sides were spot on. If you’re in the mood for a cocktail, I strongly recommend the Old Fashioned. Nothing old about this version.
Had a loud dinner at Guildhall the other night. Food was delicious, waiter was friendly and helpful.
The food is always dynamic and that's the first reason to go to any restaurant. There's a nice urban vibe for the suburbs, but it's way too loud. There are too many obnoxious patrons, including the people next to us who complained about everything and then snuck out without paying. The bar is a cool area, but I think you have to get there early to get a seat at it.
Guildhall was recommended to us as an upscale restaurant with an eclectic farm to table menu and a reasonably good wine list.
The ambience was trendy and appealing. We were seated promptly and our server was courteous.
I ordered a bottle of wine off their menu, an Italian Tuscan blend, and in a few minutes was told that the wine was not available. Why? Because it apparently is no longer on the restaurant's purchase list. Then why is it on the menu? This apparently is not answerable at this time.
Ok, so we switch to the cocktail menu and decide on a "refreshing" gin and proscecco drink that tasted like overly sweetened store bought lemonade.
The entrees: I had the Lake Superior Whitefish, which was bland, dry, overcooked and had a slightly fishy taste. It was surrounded by an overly salted medley of capers, lentils, and some other mushy vegetables. Almost inedible.
My wife had the "special" pork chops which was a better dish, but again disappointing , ie, overly sweet and not all that flavorful.
We told our server about the whitefish, but she was rather dismissive, attributing the saltiness to the lentils. No apology, and certainly no effort to offer a different dish or some other compensation.
All in all Guildhall is a pretentious rip-off. Save your money and go elsewhere... anywhere.
Excellent service. Really delicious food. Phenomenal cocktails. I'd recommend for sure.
Guildhall is great for brunch and as I have Sunday matinee tickets at Writers Theater i look forward to those Sundays for 2 reasons. Plus, management and staff are constant and it is like going home.
Guildhall is one of our favorite local restaurants. The food is always delicious and service fast, friendly and professional. Great spot. Can be a bit loud, so if you prefer a quiet meal may not be right spot for you.
Good variety of choices. Very close to Writers Theater so excellent for preplay meal.
The potato leek soup presentation would be nicer if the leeks were not as visible
Great room good food service is ok. Good vibe.
I seldom give 5 stars for everything, but this restaurant deserves it. We had brunch here before a play at Writers theater. The building is beautiful, the staff courteous, and the food delicious. I had the banana-oatmeal pancakes and they were wonderful. And, since we don't own a car this was easy to get to via the Metra train (very close to the Glencoe stop).
Always busy, always excellent.
The waiter was a bit snobby, and the bar, when asked to make an amendment to a cocktail, using bourbon instead of vodka, told us that their cocktails are pre-mixed. This isn’t a college bar, and you think he could’ve made the cocktail that was requested. The oysters and hamachi were not bad though.
Still having a hard time getting over pre-mixed cocktails though.
Great place for brunch
I had a terrific gin and tonic (rarely indulge), and the halibut that is in season. The fish was fresh and the preparation was perfect. Our waiter was knowledgeable and check-in with us just the right amount. Very enjoyable evening with a dear friend.
I do feel bad giving a "just good" review of Guildhall. We've been to the restaurant a number of times. The menu is carefully crafted and offers a variety of options for foodies who are health conscious. The ambiance is great and being settled in a cozy walkable, down town of Glencoe makes this a bit of a neighborhood gem. Every time we go to Writer's Theater, we try to dine at Guildhall.
Unfortunately, our last dining experience was a bit of a disappointment, mostly because of our waiter... When you are walking out with a bill of nearly $200/couple, you expect for the waiter to tell you about the specials or to describe each dish in such detail that would make you drool.... Our waiter was not just super brief, but he would walk away while one of us would be asking a question or deciding on a cocktail... Instead of guiding a dining patron on what might be a good choice, it just seemed like all he cared about was getting the order into the kitchen. I had to ask a couple times to clear our main course dishes (that's after dessert was served.)
So, to sum it up - the food, drinks and ambiance are great. Service could use a bit of an improvement.
Food was good, but expensive for what is plated, granted I do a lot of 4 and 5 star restaurants so I'm being real not picky.
Lovely restaurant. Drinks were good, decent wine list.
Excellent restaurant where you don't have to head to the city for. The ONLY feedback/note is the service as well as the host's attitude was less to be desired.
I don't need a parade to welcome me in, but I also don't need to have non-verbal hints that we are bothering them or actually make them do their job.
Food and service excellent. Server conscious of our theater time so food was served in plenty of time. Presentation very nice. Will return.
