Our server Maxine was the BEST!
The food was excellent and a good value! Our server (her nickname) Max was fantastic!
New Year’s Day dinner with our son
Upon arrival we ordered appetizers and they were out. I ordered a drink and they ran out of what I ordered! The waiter was not accommodating at all, he never mentioned it until we ordered our dinner and found it too was not available. The waiter said that they ran out of everything because they were busy for New Years. We told him that we were going to leave, when he returned with our drink check, he threw it literally at my wife! After speaking with the manager and expressed our disappointment regarding the waiter’s unprofessional manner, we left and refused to pay for our drinks! Not a good experience overall!
Slow! Also went there for the Jan 1 menu that was posted online only to find out when ordering at 2:30 in the afternoon that we could only order off brunch menu.
Came for the January 1st menu about 2 pm. Was told that menu didn’t start until 4 but they were using their brunch menu (which said it was served saturdays snd sundays). January 1 was a Friday. Service was not good-food took a long time. Many other customers were frustrated and left.
Apparently open table “didn’t work” so they couldn’t seat us even though the place looked empty.
New year Eve dining - 3 course meal. I understand you may reduce the size of each course but a small salad shouldn’t come in a saucer plate. It should come in a salad plate even if you’re serving less salad. The chowder was burned, they decided to serve it anyway. I was given a coffee spoon for my soup. The waitress kept asking me to hold my silverware, why can’t she just bring me new ones?
My husband and I were celebrating New Years and our anniversary. We went early for drinks at the bar. Andy was a great bartender! Personable and knowledgeable. When we were seated for dinner, we did not get a table for 2 as we requested. We were seated at a communal table and given a waiter who was extremely inexperienced. He gave us the wrong food and no steak knife to use for steak. The food was cooked on a dirty grill and had black grill marks instead of nice browned meat. The flavor and smell of an unclean grill was prevalent this restaurant. When we looked up their health score on Yelp, we found that it was 68. Unacceptable for a beautiful restaurant where we are paying too dollar.
Limited menu for New Years Eve but the selection was very good. Service seemed like the needed more help. All three soups came cold, sent them back in which I hate to do. Lobster was serviced without drawn butter, And steak served with butter knife. However, they did make
As a resident in Galveston, I was quite disappointed spending my NewYear’s eve dinner at Hearsay. Limited menu required a three course meal for $50. One of the appetizers was deviled eggs with bacon. Very disappointing....3 halves served on wilted lettuce was just the start. Corn chowder was served Luke warm, the masked potatoes served with the pork were most likely instant. If they were not, certainly a poor tasting of mashed potatoes for a $50 meal. The restaurant was cold when we arrived at 6:15, the restrooms were not working so the hostess communicated she would show us where the nearest option was located. The waitress was friendly but could have shown a bit more personality. Overall, really a disappointment. I will not be returning here again. Please note that my husband and I have dined here before and frequent many restaurants in Galveston even during the pandemic.
Good food. Interesting menu. Cool looking place! While trying to support restaurants during these challenging time... much grace is given. With that being said, management needs to re-evaluate front of house approach to meet the value at this price point.
Made a reservation for 7:30 pm 2 days prior. The day of the reservation I got a voicemail from the restaurant asking me to call back and confirm my reservation which I did. Arrived at 7:22 for my 7:30 reservation and the hostess told us we were early and they could not seat us yet. We asked if we could wait at the bar and she said yes. Waited at the bar for over 20 minutes for a drink. Finally after flagging the hostess down and reminding her that we were waiting for a table she sat us at a table at 8:00 pm. We sat unattended for 25 minutes - no bread, no water, not even a visit from a server to tell us they would be with us soon. A couple next to us said they had been there since 7:00 pm (it was 8:25) and had only been served their salads. Finally at 8:30 we decided to leave - left some cash on the table and went to another restaurant. The place is beautiful. They were clearly understaffed but did not even try to make up for it - even a basket of bread and an apology would have gone a long way with us but we were completely ignored.
We were seated promptly at our reservation time, the hostess was very nice and let us know they were short staffed- we understood to a point—but they continued to seat people so the restaurant filled up quickly. We were okay with the wait but then after 45 min with no waters or a drink order in we had to leave.
The first time experience was much better. I hope it was an isolated event.
They were experiencing a large amount of people. Staff was overwhelmed. Food was great!
We arrived on time for our reservation... we were told twice our order was on the way. After waiting over an hour and fifteen minutes for our food we left. We didn’t even receive the diet soda we ordered in that time we sat there! Poor owner/management! If you are having staffing/kitchen issues etc be honest with your patrons. Don’t lie or ignore them!
After ordering entrees, the waiter informed us due to a wedding party, we would not get our food for another 45 minutes after already waiting about 20 minutes. The manager wasn’t necessarily as sure if that timeline. Food came out 15 minutes later and was fine. The waiter never checked on us again. The manager finally checked on us and comped the meal. We had a great experience on a previous visit so we’re shocked by the experience last night.
Sat outside and listened to the street music and people watched. Service was good and food was good as well. The interior ambience was nice but the weather was nicer. Enjoyed our brunch at the strande
Christmas Eve dinner with family from College Station. Great service. 2nd year looking forward to next year
We had reservations at 1245 and arrived a little early. The hostess said they were too overwhelmed to seat us (4-5 tables in the restaurant) so we sat at the bar. 30 minutes past our reservation time they finally sat us although the hostess still seemed extremely overwhelmed. Our server was hilarious and amazing. I wish I remembered his name. Food was good, but nothing memorable
It was the first time our occasion wasn’t acknowledged. Food was over cooked but it took forever to get our servers attention so we just ate tough, overcooked steak. Food was also basically cold.
My hubby and I love this place Hector was and amazing server
Friends Christmas Extavaganza!
Food was amazing, location and building is beautiful, and great staff!
We had Sunday Brunch at the Hearsay on Dec 6 for my wife's, and my, birthdays. Yes, we both have Dec 6th as our day of celebration.
Hearsay is located on the Galveston Strand, and this time of year, the Christmas setting is awesome. Both inside Hearsay and on the streets.
The service was better than awesome and the food was excellent. The restaurant is laid out in a beautiful setting. Especially for a pre-winter Sunday brunch.
Being a coastal Texas resident, I am a snob when it comes to local blue crab. I ordered the crab cake Benedict. Out of two cakes, there was maybe a thimble full of crab meat between them. The overall flavor was very fresh, very good, but may I suggest you up the price a little and add some crab meat to the meal?
I would give the Sunday brunch a 10 out of 10 overall rating. Add some crab meat and you would easily earn a 12.
Not complaining, but a good crab cake is a crab cake with crab.
Merry Christmas Folks!!!
Sign me the Blue Crab Snob.
We really enjoyed our meal, and the service was very good. The only reason I am not giving five stars is because our server had her mask pulled down under her nose the entire time. I kept thinking that the people in charge at the restaurant might say something, as someone who was clearly the manager was also working, but her mask stayed below her nose the entire time we were there.
Celebrated our anniversary at Heresay’s. Wonderful experience. The food was outstanding, service excellent and the rustic old building added a lovely ambience to the evening. Costs are comparable to other high end restaurants in the area... but the food is far better then other restaurants on the Strand.
Great place for brunch on the strand! Food and service was excellent!
Considering still having to follow social distancing guidelines, we had a very good meal and experience. Our waiter was excellent. Friendly, professional and attentive.
The Day Manager came by the table to check on us and our food.
We had a great time on our annual “Black Friday” outing.
All of the food was excellent. We had a bistro steak, fish tacos (mahi-mahi), scallops, and a wagyu burger. For dessert we had bread pudding, which was outstanding. The indoor decor was beautiful. We ate outside, and it was very loud with music from multiple live bands coming from bars within a 50 yard radius, but we could still talk and hear. Service was excellent. It was a bit pricey, with the better steak and fish entrees in the low 30s.
Food was great and the outside dining was just what we were looking for. Service was fantastic as well.
Alcohol menu was RIDICULOUS. 1 pour of bourbon was $50. The place next door had the same exact bottle for $10 a pour. Food was great but I’d plan to drink elsewhere.
This was our second time to visit Hearsay. We really liked the idea of being able to make a reservation for a late breakfast.
We were not pleased with several things-husband's steak and eggs were not served hot. The blood marys were NOT good at all and when we commented such to the waitress-she just apologized. She should have gotten the manager over or offered to provide something else.
My fish tacos had overdone fish, hard avacadoes and corn tortillas there were definitely not fresh. Not impressed.
The atmosphere, food, and service was fantastic! Definitely a go-to date night spot!
My visit to Galveston was very memorable thanks to the biker rally! Lol. Seriously, I had a wonderful time on the Island and really enjoyed my meal at Hearsay on the Strand. The service was excellent, and the COVID accommodations were top notch.
Galveston, Outdoor Seating, Gouda Grits. That is all that you need to know. The food at Hearsay on the Strand is really great. I recommend the Gouda Grits, Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp and most of the drinks. Our service was very good and sitting on the Strand to eat is great for people watching. High recommend!
Had the brunch which was good on taste. The crabcakes Benedict was excellent. The side of bacon tasted as if it had been resalted before it was served. Otherwise, it is a gorgeous chic decor and friendly and welcoming atmosphere and staff.
Great wait staff, very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately most the cocktails and food are just not very good.
They followed social distancing guidelines which we could appreciate. The brunch menu offered several different and intriguing dishes. The orange juice ran out which was sho king considering mimosas are a brunch must have but they did have 3 other juices to offer. Service was great. We enjoyed the food and the ambiance and will return.
Great service, delicious food. Cocktails were unique and very good. Had the pork chop it was wonderful.
