Delicious food. Excellent service. Love the ambiance.
Interesting menu - fusion of several cultures but everything we ate was perfectly prepared with interesting sauces for a delicious final product.
Fixed price menu was scrumptious...and in addition to the four main courses, several extras thrown in. Particularly liked the complex flavors in the duck dumpling, and ditto the squid ink pasta with crab. Paired wine selections made the food even better...especially the Grgich Hills Merlot. Of course, the sommelier's narrative made the wine even better. Our server Robb, as always, makes us feel as special as the food. Been there several times now--twice Valentine's Day, and once just the regular menu. Never disappointed. Not cheap. But good value. If I could change one thing: table clothes, for Valentines Day, at least. But they had candles on the table, the atmosphere was otherwise very special, and it's nice to put the laundry costs towards food/service and reduce pollution, so I can definitely live with that. (Speaking of which, loved that the doggie bags were recyclable paper, vs. plastic or aluminum. Yay!)
Interesting menu, except for the necessity to have lots of obscure foods and food terms defined. Always well cooked and attractively presented. Friendly attentive service. On a busy night, the noise level is a little high. Some seats are less prone to noise--ask.
Probably the best meal we've had on the North Shore in quite some time! Great service, nice wine list, great menu. Food was terrific.
Food was great. We were seated in a small room with a large loud party who spent the night shouting an d screaming an d shrieking. Their behavior ruined our dinner
Good value for restaurant week. Food excellent. A little drafty by the window
Hearth has it all: Elevated but very accessible and delicious food; warm friendly service; and an inviting atmosphere. We love Hearth and will be back for sure!
We ate at the bar and the atmosphere by the fireplace was lovely. Zack, the bartender, was excellent. Will definitely be returning.
Went here for Restaurant Week. Amazing value, service, great drinks. Delicious! Really impressed with this place.
Located in landmark building
Warm & open space
Our meal was delicious. Each course was special and I found my steak to be done perfectly: really good sear with perfect medium rare finish. Our side dish of roasted carrots was tasty too. We loved our meal, but the most memorable part of the meal was the cocktails. We sampled three from the specialties and each one was strong, flavorful, and memorable. My friend was smitten with the passion fruit based tequila drink. I found my favorite was the blood orange manhattan.
We gave Hearth a try during Restaurant Week and will definitely be back! And we will be starting with cocktails again for sure!
What a wonderful experience this was! Hearth on restaurant week with the fun of that special menu, perhaps a little extra quiet because it was Super Bowl Sunday. Every single dish we had, and we ordered different things and offered each other tastes, was extraordinary and delicious. Perfect portions, so we left full but not stuffed. Beautiful room, conversation-friendly, tables far enough apart that we never heard another conversation. Attentive, friendly service, well-informed but not stuffy. We took a friend for her birthday and from front door to candle artfully set standing next to the chosen dessert, she was well honored without any painful public renditions of Happy Birthday To You. Highly recommended!
We went to Hearth for the 1st time to partake of their Restaurant Week offering. We thought that the food was beautifully displayed, along with a great taste. The evening was enhanced by our knowledgable server, Lauren! We look forward to returning to this gem in Evanston!
We visited Hearth during restaurant week. Each of us ordered something different. Everyone thought their good was delicious. Next time I would request a table in the main dining room. The small porch was a bit noisy.
Consistently good food, conversation friendly
Wonderful atmosphere with great food and service!!
We were under time constraints and mentioned this as we entered. They told us there wouldn’t be a problem. And there wasn’t. Everything we ordered came promptly and beautifully appointed. Wait staff was attentive but not overwhelming. All food was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed Hearth!
We had a delicious meal (we both ordered the venison) starting with a lovely glass of champagne and finishing with a very nice bottle of red wine. The restaurant was almost full on a Sunday evening, but the tables were spread out enough that we had privacy, too. Hearth is one of the few restaurants around that is quiet enough to have a conversation and hear each other! We were next to the cozy fire and felt that we had a perfect evening.
Doing its best to be casual but somewhat upscale. Service was attentive. Food entrees creative. Table service eclectic. Entree not served in timely fashion, however, they comped a glass of wine so it appears they were sensitive to the delay. Looking for a quite place with moderate affordable portions? This is for you.
Will definitely come back. Cozy bar area and restaurant. The salmon appetizer was outstanding. Service top notch.
Hearth is consistently excellent with old school ambience and new school cooking, plus they have the best bartender in the Chicago area.
This restaurant is a winner on all levels. Thanks for a fine experience!
The Hearth Restaurant if very conveniently located for us--right next door. The ambiance with a fireplace and the excellent service made for a delightful evening. The food and the value were good. We look forward to our next dining experience at The Hearth.
food is excellent and the building is a boutique hotel with a quiet lobby and street parking. The space itself has a fireplace and is very quaint, however, the tables and chairs are more from an entry level restaurant, which I think detracts from the experience. The food and service are good and the pricing is fair if a bit expensive. Lots of other good restaurants with a better vibe that also have good food and service. I just felt a little like I was at a place my grandmother would like and that's not the city vibe I'm looking for.
Loved eating by the fireplace and Zach is an awesome server!
Cool spot for dinner or a few drinks. Sit by the fire, have an old fashioned and then head over to the dining room for dinner. Very comfortable, very good
Fourth time at Hearth and it was a disappointment - food was too salty or lacked flavor...only the duck was spot-on. Roasted cauliflower was very good, but over-priced for a side dish. Wine and drink options were strong, as usual. Unfortunately, alternatives have been getting better while Hearth has fallen off. The bar, on the other hand, has remained an Evanston hidden gem.
Pleasant neighborhood restaurant with excellent service.
They were great.
Wow. The tastes were all so wonderful. The celery root and apple soup was so good we passed it around the table twice. I loved my fish, which was cod on the menu but happened to be changed to swordfish the night we were there. The sauce was incredible. I tasted my husband's venison and it was fantastic. Every bite of everything was truly outstanding and delicious. The plates were beautiful, the waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable and gave us opinions when we asked, which I like. All around one of the best meals I have had this year.
Love the bar area, like a comfortable winter cabin including a fireplace, great bartender mixing excellent cocktails. We went to the dining room for dinner and it was very pleasant, scallops were excellent and so was the octopus, I did not care for the venison though it was just OK. Great place for a slightly upscale experience, good for a date, good for couples, good for friends, pretty versatile.
Really nice experience on a Saturday night. Nice setting, very nice hostess and server. Food was excellent although I could have had a bit more than 6 bites of ribeye. The venison was excellent. Good drinks, everything was great. Highly recommend.
Food and service were exceptional. But the decor in both the bar and dining room were sorely lacking. It wouldn’t take a big investment - a few paintings, some candlelight and a few small vases of live ANYthing would warm the place up significantly. Right now its just sort of a beige Denny’s with great food and service.
Perfect flavors. Perfect service. Perfect atmosphere. Hands down, our favorite place!
Our second visit to this terrific addition to Evanston’s restaurant scene, and it was just as good as we remembered. Friendly, professional waiter was very knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine list, which included many very reasonably priced “value reds” that complement the cuisine. Hearth is a worthy successor to the beloved Cafe Provençal, which once occupied the space. Very highly recommended (especially the FABULOUS duck which should stay on the menu forever IMO).
Nye dinner. Over priced fixed menus. Their normal menus is amazing & fair priced. The fixed meal was not something I would have ordered & didn’t like half the courses. Wouldn’t do again for a fixed menus, but on non holiday dinning I love this place.
Great place, ambiance and food. The staff made my wife and I feel welcome as we were out celebrating her Birthday. They even included a birthday card signed by the staff. I highly recommend Hearth and we will definitely be back.
Love Hearth! Its our 1st choice for special occasions or just to treat ourselves.
Disappointed with pretty much everything
