Disappointing. Brunch entrees weren’t price I was told over the phone. Also had been told they could do dessert and candle for a friends birthday but they weren’t even serving dessert. Food wasn’t spectacular considering the price. Waiter was very attentive. The only saving grace. Considering all of the great dining options in Evanston, this was ho hum
Very best shrimp and grits I ever had! Being from the South and my previous business taking me to New Orleans monthly, that’s saying a lot!!!
Hope you bring back Sunday brunches!
Very good place for family dinner or a cozy dinner with your loved one. Very good quality of food and service. Their cocktails are refreshing and not very common. Overall I will highly recommend and I will visit again.
The food was creatively prepared and it all worked really well together. The ambiance is okay but the servers are attentive. We will be back.
Nice food, great service. Overall a very pleasant experience. Unpretentious, friendly staff and impressive food. Bread, starters, main courses, and dessert were all distinctive and delicious. There were three of us and we all agreed that we'll be back.
Love the bar area. Zach is wonderful waitstaff
wonderful food enhanced by wonderful service in a beautiful room
Duck breast was excellent, short ribs with pasta was average. Bartender is one of the best in Evanston. Service is exceptional in the dining room and the bar.
Food was nothing special and waiter was inattentive and snarky. Limited strange menu. Definitely will not return. Woody was a great chef and we used to go a lot. Sad.
Receive complimentary glasses of champagne. Thank you!
A bit pretentious but pleasant enough. The food was good but not very good much less great. The main courses are overpriced relative to the level of the tastes. It cost us around $90 for 2 without drinks ( water only) and the value of what we had was closer to $50.
Consistently good food and service. Quiet and conversation friendly.
This is really a hidden gem. Every bite is amazing. I had the Crispy Buffalo Mozzarella appetizer and the pork collar entree. I would have licked each plate, but that would be rude. The cocktails are innovative and wonderful, lots of wines by the glass. My husband got venison for the second time because he can't make himself get anything else. He loves it. Wait staff is completely knowledgeable about every item on the menu and very low key and helpful. The atmosphere is calm and inviting and they have a cute cocktail lounge too. Can't say enough good things about Hearth.
Excellent menu, great ambiance, good service. One of my favorite Evanston restaurants.
My favorite restaurant in Evanston! Never disappoints!
Great food. Nice quiet atmosphere for conversation.
Wonderful dinner and great experience overall. Very friendly staff but not to the point of being annoying. Food is always wonderful. Atmosphere is so relaxing. Just a great place.
Great overall experience! Highly recommended Hearth!
We loved Hearth.
Bar was much better ambiance then restaurant, maybe adjust restaurant to match bar.
We will be back.
Zack- bartender was excellent
Delicious food. Excellent service. Love the ambiance.
Interesting menu - fusion of several cultures but everything we ate was perfectly prepared with interesting sauces for a delicious final product.
Unfortunately, they were overbooked on Valentine's Day. Our reservation was for 7:45 pm, and we were not seated until 8:30 pm, which made us late for the babysitter when we did finally get home. When we first arrived at 7:40 pm, we were told that the couple at our table was "about to leave". So we stood around and waited. Then we sat around and waited. And after a half-hour had passed, we finally decided to buy a drink at the bar. No one tried to update us about the status of our table until our names were called 45 min. later. And we still paid full price for the cocktails and meal, as though this 45 min. delay was perfectly acceptable to them. It appeared that several couples that arrived after us got seated sooner than we did, so it is not clear that their seating policy is very fair.
But the food and cocktails were top-notch once we were finally seated.
Fixed price menu was scrumptious...and in addition to the four main courses, several extras thrown in. Particularly liked the complex flavors in the duck dumpling, and ditto the squid ink pasta with crab. Paired wine selections made the food even better...especially the Grgich Hills Merlot. Of course, the sommelier's narrative made the wine even better. Our server Robb, as always, makes us feel as special as the food. Been there several times now--twice Valentine's Day, and once just the regular menu. Never disappointed. Not cheap. But good value. If I could change one thing: table clothes, for Valentines Day, at least. But they had candles on the table, the atmosphere was otherwise very special, and it's nice to put the laundry costs towards food/service and reduce pollution, so I can definitely live with that. (Speaking of which, loved that the doggie bags were recyclable paper, vs. plastic or aluminum. Yay!)
Interesting menu, except for the necessity to have lots of obscure foods and food terms defined. Always well cooked and attractively presented. Friendly attentive service. On a busy night, the noise level is a little high. Some seats are less prone to noise--ask.
Probably the best meal we've had on the North Shore in quite some time! Great service, nice wine list, great menu. Food was terrific.
Food was great. We were seated in a small room with a large loud party who spent the night shouting an d screaming an d shrieking. Their behavior ruined our dinner
Good value for restaurant week. Food excellent. A little drafty by the window
Hearth has it all: Elevated but very accessible and delicious food; warm friendly service; and an inviting atmosphere. We love Hearth and will be back for sure!
We ate at the bar and the atmosphere by the fireplace was lovely. Zack, the bartender, was excellent. Will definitely be returning.
It was a lovely experience. We were seated in front of the fireplace (just right). Service was wonderful. Good food and wine. It was a birthday celebration; the birthday person is still talking about how fabulous it was.
Went here for Restaurant Week. Amazing value, service, great drinks. Delicious! Really impressed with this place.
Located in landmark building
Warm & open space
Our meal was delicious. Each course was special and I found my steak to be done perfectly: really good sear with perfect medium rare finish. Our side dish of roasted carrots was tasty too. We loved our meal, but the most memorable part of the meal was the cocktails. We sampled three from the specialties and each one was strong, flavorful, and memorable. My friend was smitten with the passion fruit based tequila drink. I found my favorite was the blood orange manhattan.
We gave Hearth a try during Restaurant Week and will definitely be back! And we will be starting with cocktails again for sure!
What a wonderful experience this was! Hearth on restaurant week with the fun of that special menu, perhaps a little extra quiet because it was Super Bowl Sunday. Every single dish we had, and we ordered different things and offered each other tastes, was extraordinary and delicious. Perfect portions, so we left full but not stuffed. Beautiful room, conversation-friendly, tables far enough apart that we never heard another conversation. Attentive, friendly service, well-informed but not stuffy. We took a friend for her birthday and from front door to candle artfully set standing next to the chosen dessert, she was well honored without any painful public renditions of Happy Birthday To You. Highly recommended!
We went to Hearth for the 1st time to partake of their Restaurant Week offering. We thought that the food was beautifully displayed, along with a great taste. The evening was enhanced by our knowledgable server, Lauren! We look forward to returning to this gem in Evanston!
We visited Hearth during restaurant week. Each of us ordered something different. Everyone thought their good was delicious. Next time I would request a table in the main dining room. The small porch was a bit noisy.
Consistently good food, conversation friendly
Wonderful atmosphere with great food and service!!
We were under time constraints and mentioned this as we entered. They told us there wouldn’t be a problem. And there wasn’t. Everything we ordered came promptly and beautifully appointed. Wait staff was attentive but not overwhelming. All food was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed Hearth!
We had a delicious meal (we both ordered the venison) starting with a lovely glass of champagne and finishing with a very nice bottle of red wine. The restaurant was almost full on a Sunday evening, but the tables were spread out enough that we had privacy, too. Hearth is one of the few restaurants around that is quiet enough to have a conversation and hear each other! We were next to the cozy fire and felt that we had a perfect evening.
