My partner and I ordered the same fish but unfortunately mine wasn’t fresh.
Went Friday Night and sat outside and had a delicious dinner. The Lobster Crostini appetizer is my favorite!
Food was tasty, service was good ,a bit pricey for what we ate.
disappointed - food not special as it had been on our first visit in july
very fatty lambchop and orzo side was unimpressive, quality of beef filet not in line with price
wanted so much for it all to be good
waiter was rushed
Wonderful menu!! Atmosphere and service wonderful!!
The food was outstanding - all of us loved the flavors. The chef was creative and the presentations were appealing. We'd return in a second!
Definitely rushed us thru our meal on a Friday night.
The waiter got several things incorrect with our order. One item did not arrive (because he forgot) until we were almost finished dinner.
Very good food and service. A gem in the burbs.
It’s our second time and it’s becomming one our favorites go to for special occasions.
My only disappointment was the peach cobbler had to much nutmeg.
The food was delicious. The service was par at best. Our food did not come out together. They switched two peoples meals. One was still not even on the table 5 mins after most of us received our meals. For the price that we paid for the meal the service should have been much better. Very disappointed
The food was fabulous. The bourbon flight outstanding. Service impeccable. People engaging and friendly. A keeper for sure.
outstanding menu, service was excellent, gluten free menu options, scotch list was varied/clear ice cubes, portions were very good
We always enjoy this restaurant, and this time was no exception. The food is always wonderful, and the service is helpful, accommodating and unobtrusive. However, at all of our previous visits, we recall it being conversation-friendly, even when busy. This time, the restaurant was fairly empty, but the noise level was higher than we remembered and the music vibe was definitely more contemporary, upbeat and loud. Maybe it’s always been that way, and we never noticed until last night because the restaurant wasn’t full.
The Monday night half-price wine bottle promotion is great!
Great bartenders make craft cocktails. Food is good but menu has stayed the same for awhile would love to see some new things
Attentive but not overbearing server--
He made good recommendations!
Delicious dinner, but the peach cobbler was just ok ..too much peach and not enough cobbler!
I visited the restaurant on Aug 25th for my fiancee's birthday.. We were greeted with 2 glasses of prosecco.. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating.. As far as the food, the bread wasn't very good.. It was soft on inside, but in my opinion it was overcooked on outside. I understand the outside should have a good crust and should be a little crispy, but it was as overcooked.. I had the scallop dish with Wild mushroom risotto and arugula salad. The Salmon was a little over cooked, bland with no seasoning.. I felt the risotto needed a little more flavor, perhaps more stock or Heavy Cream.. My fiancee had the Pork chop ribeye with wild rice with Maple glaze demi.. The maple demi dominated the dish.. I think the porkchop is to thick to not to be in a marinade.. The intial seasoning on the outside of the pork chop was cool though.. The only thing she complained about is that she thought the pork chop would be more tender.. I am a Chef at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.. I have worked at Sheratons and Doubletrees in the Downtown Columbus area.. I understand the restaurant business.. These are things that can be fixed in my opinion.. The crazy thing is, the service was outstanding and the waiter made my fiancee feel special.. Please dont take these comments negatively.. Just on your service alone I would come back. We all make mistakes and learn new things everyday. Its just on us not to make those mistakes again.. Thank you so much for making my fiancee feel special.
I’ve been to to House 406 a couple of times. Always had a pleasant experience with good food. The last visit was for a lunch date with a friend. The hostess was nice enough but the server was terrible. The first acknowledgment from him was to take our order. No water, no specials, no questions. At the end of the meal I asked for a cup of coffee at which he replied he had to make a pot. No big deal since this happens often. Why a restaurant wouldn’t have coffee a fresh pot ready during the lunch rush is beyond me but OK. That wasn’t the problem though, the issue was that he never came back to ask if I’d like more coffee or if we wanted anything else. He simply brought the check and set it down. It’s shocking that in this competitive dining area, service would be this poor and at such a well regarded restaurant. Definitely will go to one of the other nearby eateries next time.
I read all the reviews of House 406 and decided that we would take a crack at getting a last minute reservation and request patio/outdoor seating. We were able to get a 7:30 reservation (we requested 7), which was not a big deal at all. When we arrived they told us that our outdoor table would be ready in 10 minutes (or we could be seated inside immediately) and that we were welcome to have a drink at the bar, which we did, deciding we wanted to sit outside on a beautiful summer evening. We ordered drinks at the bar, giving Justin the bartender "parameters" of what we wanted (one vodka cocktail....summertime treat....and one bourbon cocktail.....smokey flavored but not too "out-there." Justin created two amazing cocktails and then explained what he put together for us. They were really delicious and it was fun to have an original drink mixed up right before our eyes. Then we took our table outside and had Scott Levy as a waiter. We knew him from Highland Park's Merlos (closed) and loved that guy. As usual, he took exceptional care of us, explaining everything on the menu and making recommendations when asked. He visited us periodically to make sure we were OK. Not so often that it was disruptive and not too infrequently to leave us wondering where he had gone. Just the right attention from an outstanding waiter. We have found our new favorite restaurant on the north shore and recommend it without hesitation. Yes, it is in a strip mall, but you would never know if once you are there. Try House 406....you will not regret it.
Very cozy, warm environment. Very romantic. Very good food. A little more expensive than I expected but the experience makes it worth the cost.
My wife and I went to House 406 for our wedding anniversary. It was our first visit to the restaurant and we were hoping it would be special. It was!! We got a quiet, corner table and were immediately served two glasses of sparkling wine for the occasion. We got the filet mignon & lobster along with seared scallops and split everything. It was all fantastic. Steak was seasoned beautifully and very tender. Lobster tail was buttery and sweet. The scallops were tender and sweet. We finished it off with French pressed coffee and cinnamon roll bread pudding. It was all great including the service. We will come back for sure.
We needed to be local for our anniversary dinner, and we couldn't have been more pleased. The food and drinks are comparable to what you find in Chicago or in more stylish suburban locations, but at a much more reasonable price. The service was attentive and personal. We were fortunate to have perfect weather for our outdoor table. Granted, the setting is just a suburban strip mall.
The inside of the restaurant was extremely cold. The outside was pleasant but full of August bugs. Food was good but the restaurant seems pricey for what it is.
A favorite for food, ambience and friendly staff. Have been many times, always consistent.
Overall, I thought it was good but not great. I liked our appetizer and I liked the selection of entrees but did feel mine was a tad overcooked. Not a big deal. While I waited for my guest, I had a well made martini at the bar and enjoyed that very much. I guess what bothered me was that I was asked if I wanted sit inside or outside and we chose outside. From that point on, the waiter was spotty and we felt rushed as they closed the outside area. Not a big deal but really don't like being rushed especially after dropping the money to eat.
Still, if someone asked me about a place in Northbrook, I would suggest it.
A wide variety on the menu, fresh food and good wine list. Ambiance and décor are traditional and lighting is dim but not dark, so it makes for a very cozy setting.
had a great meal here the other night. they also had 50% off all bottled wine. the caprese appetizer was superb as was my Sea Bass (but did it on the whitefish set up) and my friends scallops. Would return!
One of the better restaurants on the North Shore. Food quality is consistently excellent.
From the moment we entered we were treated like we were special. Food was perfect and desserts were outstanding. Will be back!
I can't believe it's taken me this long to find this incredible gem, right in my backyard. The food is amazing, the service great, and the ambiance is warm and inviting.
Excellent food. Comfortable restaurant. We got there early on a Sunday night and the restaurant filled fast, making it a little difficult to move between the tables to get to the restroom.
Really like this restaurant- food, service and atmosphere are all very good. The drinks however are very small and over priced - that was disappointing.
One of the best bourbon lists in all of Chicago! What a great surprise. Food was very, very good as well!
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at this restaurant! The food was excellent, fresh, and creative. The wait staff and manager were friendly and attentive but did not interfere with our conversation. We would highly recommend this restaurant!
We sat outside for lunch. It was a lovely day and the restaurant does an excellent job of visually blocking out the parking lot.
However, the mall blasts a terrible radio station with voices, "music" that is most incompatible with conversation, and sprinkled with static. The waiter told me they have no control over what the mall blasts through its speakers, but they should b=get together with others in the mall and jointly complain.
I will gladly go back there when I want to dine indoors, assuming they choose better and quieter music.
We took our relatives out to dinner to recognize their hosting our recent vacation/visit. We need organic/farm-to-table as much as possible to manage husband’s autoimmune issue. Weren’t sure if our relatives would enjoy that (their taste is more traditional steakhouse.) Every bite was delicious. The service was great. We went early and sat inside (too much west sun at the early dinner hour.) So we had a wonderful, quiet place and didn’t notice the restaurant filling up as we dined. Wedge salads, steak, fish, steak & lobster - each delicious and every bite cleaned up! For me, a nice list of wines by the glass. We’ll be back. Loved it.
Great French onion soup. Very good food. Our waiter was very quiet and didn't speak English to well, but the food and the atmosphere well overdid any negatives. Will return.
Nice semi private area. Professional, kind service.
Small restaurant gem.
We were celebrating a friend's birthday and dined outside. It was lovely. The food was excellent and so was the service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
My friend and I met for dinner at House 406 and really enjoyed our experience. The bartender made me a drink based on some general likes/dislikes and it was delicious. We were able to sit outside on the patio (on a lovely summer night) which was so relaxing. I had the halibut special which was delicious although it was a rather small portion of halibut. My friend had the scallops with risotto. The scallops were a little chewy but the risotto was delicious and the flavors in the sauce and other vegetables was delicious. Our waiter picked a perfect wine to go with our seafood entrees.
