For the price there should be more to the meal - i.e. side salad and bread with the pasta dish or more substantial piece of fish. I really want this place to succeed but the food is meh
Outstanding service and greet food!
Pleasant surprise. We hadn't tried this yet and the fare is quite nicely done and a bit different than usual. Service was also very good. Will be back soon... :)
They need to update the menu and offer a better selection with seasonal produce and some new options
Fast service, delicious small plates, great experience!
Ivy Road House is a great location to go for good food, a great vibe, and attentive service staff. I got the Hanger steak with fries and it was delicious. Highly recommend this place!
Food and service very good except our hangar steaks were very salty
Great food. Great staff. Everyone was so nice. Great experience. We will be back with friends soon.
Everyone enjoyed their dinner and the service was good.
All the items on the menu were inventive, the pork shoulder and hanger steak were especially good.
We were a party of two. Ordered 3 "small plates" and not one could I say was good.
The wine my friend ordered wasn't good either. And she's not even that picky. I expect to walk into a restaurant and smell good cooking aromas. This had the smell of old cooking oil. All the hype on "Next Door" was misleading as far I am concerned.
We were looking for a reservation during UVA parents’ weekend and found the restaurant. What a wonderful place. My vegetarian daughter and carnivore husband had great options. Excellent food and diverse menu. Try the squash small plate and pork lettuce wraps.
Very good meal, slightly Overpriced. Service was great.
The food was wonderful and the service was impeccable. We will definitely return!
We took a day trip to Monticello and used Open Table to select a spot for dinner. We are so glad to have found Ivy Road House! It was a delightful experience from start to finish.
I have to admit that we second-guessed it when we pulled into the parking lot. The outside of the building looks a little utilitarian. However, stepping inside was an entirely different experience. The dining room isn’t fancy or ostentatious, but it is very nicely appointed, bright, open, and welcoming. The views out the large windows on the crisp Fall day we were there were of trees and foliage.
The menu isn’t large, but contains a lot of variety. We were so taken by the choices of small plates that we decided to skip entrees, that night, and make our meal from those. We ordered them all!
Wow, what a variety of flavors! All of them delicious!
Favorites on the night we visited were the Panzanella Salad (a must-try if you visit), the Stuffed Squash (a hearty Fall dish with a surprising bright note from the tart turnip greens served with it), and Braised Leeks (simple and delicious). We also thoroughly enjoyed the Tumeric Roasted Cauliflower, Fall Vegetables, Lamb Kofta, and Crispy Sesame Lettuce Wraps (chicken being substituted for pork, that night).
Oh, boy. We were sure full after all that!
After walking through Thomas Jefferson’s gardens at Monticello that afternoon and seeing all the Fall crops the gardeners had growing, it was a real treat to come across this seasonal menu to featured many of those same Fall choices.
Thank you, Ivy Road House for an excellent evening of fine dining fare. We only wish we lived closer so we could visit again soon. Next time we are in the Charlottesville area, you’re definitely on our list!
Food and service was top notch. We can’t wait to bring the rest of the family the next time we are in town.
Great neighborhood find with nice menu selection, good value for price paid, and good service. The pork shoulder was excellent! Our first visit - we will return.
Delicious and great service. A very well-executed menu. We had a wonderful dinner here.
Cute place, nice decor. Food left a lot to be desired.
Great restaurant - will definitely be back!
Food was very good. Service was fair. No silverware provided - had to get my own. Price was on the upper end of reasonable.
Everything was great. The menu was small but diverse. Wine was iffy. Overall, really good.
Staff is super nice. Food is okay, menu is limited. Nice interior, tables are spaced out. They have a small bar area to sit.
There were four people in our party last night. Three of us ordered steak and every single one of us had a cold steak. Not even lukewarm. Two of the three ordered their steak medium the other person medium rare. The steak comes already sliced and the doneness of all the steaks looked EXACTLY the same. Plus the French fries were served on the same plate as the steak and half of mine were soggy and inedible because of the steak marinade. The other person in our party ordered a hamburger and her French fries were cold. Ivy Roadhouse was closed the day before so I called to be sure they were open Saturday night. She said yes but with a limited menu. I understand restaurants are struggling right now with staff and just keeping people coming into the restaurant. But if you cannot serve a decent meal, don’t bother opening up at all. This was my first visit to this place and my last. The reviews were great and I was anticipating a great meal. I was sorely disappointed. The only bright spot of the evening was our very friendly waitress. Super nice. The hostess was also very pleasant and greeted us with a big smile and a friendly hello when we walked in the door.
Excellent food and service, but the atmosphere is pretty unremarkable. Great spot for a quiet dinner with friends!
Staff was not very welcoming and we were not attended to with enthusiasm. No smiles. But when leaving they were VERY helpful with a gift certificate I had which actually redeemed the service in my eyes. I had the smashburger which was thin and crusty just like I like it but was not asked how I wanted it (I forgot to offer it too) so it was cooked a bit more than I'd like. I thought the caramelized onions were very smooshy and the fries were smooshy and not crispy. My partner thought his fish sandwich was good, but not great. We ordered several drinks. Two of which had a curdled appearance. I ordered coconut rum and coke and I was presented a cloudy drink with white curdles floating on the top. Not sure what it was but it just wasn't right. The atmosphere was nice. We were seated close to the bridge with the overhead door open so there was a fair amount of after work traffic that banged back and forth on the bridge. I'm really sorry guys, the end feel was a fail for us. We won't be coming back. These are all correctable but because we drove 45 min to get there, you would not be changing for us but for other customers.
Cousins reunion. Very nice clean place. Food was delicious! Cars going over a bridge made noise.
It was absolutely amazing in every way. The decor was understated and lovely. The food was phenomenal and the drinks were unique and yummy!
Great food and staff was very friendly and efficient!
First time trying Ivy Roadhouse, and it won't be our last. The simple exterior of the building belies a lovely interior. Our food selections were superb, the drinks and wine were terrific, service was attentive, and what looks to be sound-deadening in the ceiling keeps the noise level very manageable. We highly recommend. Wondering what took us so long to try it??
Our first visit to Ivy Road House. We live nearby and we have been wanting to check it out. Friends in the area had given it high marks and we agree. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We sat at the bar for dinner which is often our preference. Our bartender, Alicia, was very pleasant and she added to the experience,
The menu has good tavern food choices. Not too may so there is a good chance all will be good.
We expect to return soon and often. A good addition to the area.
We have been frequent visitors to Ivy Road House, and we enjoy it very much. They are exceedingly hospitable and accommodating, and it is a very well-designed and comfortable dining room, without tables jammed right up against each other, which is why the sound level is energetic but not annoying. The cocktails are particularly well done; even a simple dark rum and tonic is as vigorous as it is refreshing, not the watered-down version that you might be served elsewhere. Bill McKechnie is a lovely host and goes out of his way to make everyone feel at home. All in all, a lovely place to have a delightful dining experience.
Regarding the dishes, I have not had a single one that I did not like, from the pork lettuce wrap appetizer, to the shrimp flatbread, to the gochujang pork and a perfectly-cooked salmon. Even the burger is unique, with snappy house-made pickles countered by the caramelized onions.
If I had to make a criticism - and this is a reach - I would love to see some new dishes added or circulated on and off the menu. While everything is well done, it would be interesting to see the very capable kitchen staff further stretch their legs with something creative and new, as the menu is basically the same since it opened.
But again, this is a wonderful and welcome addition to western Albemarle County, and we are very gratified that it is here!
So pleased to have this great restaurant on our side of town! Delicious artisanal cocktails, small plates and tasty entrees. The owner hung up our raincoats and came to our table which was a nice touch. We will make this our “go-to” place.
Due to a significant thunderstorm & power outage, our meals were quite delayed. However our server was constantly checking in and we were given a complimentary tea and glass of wine.
The fish-of-the day, monkfish, was outstanding as was the grilled salmon and the hanger steak was excellent. Excellent server.
We stopped for dinner while traveling and couldn’t have been more pleased with our dining experience. Great cocktails and innovative, delicious food!
The entire experience was amazing. The owner, Bill, is such a genuine and hospitable guy. He and his staff ensured my party was cared for the moment we entered the restaurant until the moment we left. Once they heard that we had a special celebration, they surprised us with the most gorgeous brownie platter for the family to share. The food was flawless and flavorful. This is one of my favorite places in Cville!
Food was fantastic. We particularly loved the cauliflower appetizer. Cocktails were also excellent.
Great food! Perfect location!
Excellent dining experience. Friendly greeter, attentive waitress and owner. Skilled bar service and appropriate menu variety. The appetizers, meals and sides were all delicious and fit for any true “foodie”. Highly recommended.
Enough with the “rocks up charge”. If you’re gonna charge for your “craft ice”, ensure a customer asks for it, or, if the server offers it, make sure the $1.50 extra is known. Last night I ordered “on the rocks” and was served the uncharged craft ice without asking or disclosure. My next drink I specifically asked for small ice and was properly charged.
Speaking of which, why did you eliminate prices on your drink list? The list used to have it; now it has been removed. I think it is all an effort to disguise the up charging.
Be better than this. It’s tacky.
