Beautiful restaurant. Impeccably decorated for the holidays. Service was good and the staff was attentive. The only disappointment was being seated between two tables of very loud business men and doctors. Made our date night a little hard to enjoy. Yelling to talk and having to listen to the drs talk about aids and cancer while trying to enjoy our very expensive meal. Waiter did apologize for the noise level.
We decided to go here for our yearly work Christmas dinner party. We all were very excited cause everyone knows Joe Muer, right?!! At first things seemed going well, except for a small let down by everyone noticing the whipped butter not having any taste? We asked for regular butter, we were told they don't have anything else, after few comments about that, she brought couple slices of hard butter before being whipped, it was a teeny weeny better but it didn't have much taste either so we let it go.
Time come for the main course, I ordered my favorite usual Lamb Chops, never had them at Joe's. I took my first bite and I couldn't believe how gammy they tasted, and it didn't look like the normal chops either =/ ? I thought it might be me! I gave a taste to my colleague to check, both said the same thing! This meat taste like mutton!! When our server Noel showed up at the end of everyone 's meal ! wasn't happy that I didn't like it and tried to assume me it is Lamb ? A $59 gammy lamb? Come on Muer!!! Reality is I grow up eating lamb all my life!! Lamb never taste gammy unless it is mutton or goat!! I was asked if I wanted to order something else, I declined simply because everyone was done eating by that time =( to our shocking !No other sorry for your bad experience jester was offered! WOW..That is Joe Muer?? Really! Even my bosses were shocked! Not even a desert! Hummmm, Okay now we know! It was taken it off the bill and that was it! Where is Joe when you need him?! Another thing, one of my colleague asked Noel to look at the desert table selections because he couldn't figure out what's on the table, she glanced at a distance from the table and said there is a 9 selections and went a way?? We thought she went to get the table! But no after 10 minutes of no sign of her coming back with the table, we asked one of the busmen to help us, and he went and got her.
As a fine dinning place....They missed big time with their service and gratitude of their customers!
Our server, Ray, was amazing and very engaging. We will definitely be back again next year for our 3rd.
Expensive but very high level food, wine and service. Our group of 4 was 100% satisfied.
Well Joe is BACK! I grew up going downtown to the original location. A favorite family memory. The Bloomfield location is fabulous- the perfect combo of upscale clubbiness with modern updates. Server Tameka was attentive and was prepared for the dietary restrictions we listed when we reserved on OpenTable. Food was sensational and true to the JM tradition. Our only regret was pigging out so much there was no room for desserts! We WILL be back. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
We asked for a booth when we arrived and we were accommodated...great service by Brittany and other servers that assisted us...food wonderful as always...Bronzino perfect...valet very friendly and efficient...we could hear each of us when we spoke...not usually the case with all of us 80 years young plus....
Fabulous staff Fabulous Food.. Everything was beautiful. The perfect place for that dress up night
Our waitress was OUTSTANDING!!! Dinner was for my birthday and I couldn't have had a better night! THANK YOU!!!
Excellent food, service, and ambiance. Holiday decor and live music added to a special evening.
Bit loud. Very over crowded dining space. Tables too close
Specially prepared course, Carefully selected raw material over the world, Wonderful service, generous manager and owner.
As always food, service and ambience were great!
We celebrated my wife's birthday. Our server, Tamika, was one of the best we've ever had! Food was excellent, although pricey. A great place for a special occasion of any kind.
Service was wonderful. Dover sole filleted tableside, blue nose grouper special was excellent. Appetizer was an 8 oz stone crab claw. The claw was pounded with a Hamer so bad that the shell was imbedded into the claw meat. Our 8 oz claw produced about 2 oz of food. And it was $48!!!
Other than the appetizer and the price we were happy.
We had a very, very nice meal. We ordered the evening special and it was excellent in presentation and taste. Portions are quite large by my standards, so my wife and I split a soup, salad and entree it felt we had plenty of food. Drinks were interesting but just a bit pricey, even given the category of restaurant. I would go back for sure.
We had a most enjoyable evening with our two servers Samika and Lance. They were so engaging and made us feel relaxed and at home. When we come again, we would love to have them take care of us. We have a history with Joe Muers back to 1968 when we brought family to the Gratiot restaurant, and we are also delighted with the downtown site. We have never been disappointed, and it's the only place we prefer for t seafood offerings.
11/3018 Great dinner, great food with excellent service. We will be there again regularly.
Filet was cool, like it had set for awhile waiting for the other food orders
I wanted to surprise our guest with a small birthday cake, and when our waitress (Heather) came up to the table she blurted out -who’s birthday is it. She also made errors on two of the orders. Very disappointing.
The ambiance is nice but we were sat at a table that was in the middle of the dining room that felt like we were in a hallway when the tables around us were getting served.
I had the grouper which was very good but expensive, my husband had the white fish which he felt was not fresh but frozen and so consequently tasted a little “fishy” for whitefish. Then the bill... i cannot believe they charged us $18 for just a “house red” nothing special was ordered but seriously, $18 for one 6oz pour is nothing but extortionate.
Staff were friendly and there were a lot of them...overall its decent but not value for the money/experience...
This may have been the best meal I've had in my entire life. I had lobster tail with a side order of stewed tomatoes. Even the pre-meal offerings were amazing (pickled beans and bluefish pate). It was expensive, but worth every penny!
Always a wonderful experience. You get what you pay for!
Not a good value for the money. Very expensive but the service and quality was not at the same level. Lump crab meat appetizer was a joke -- lettuce with maybe 1/2 ounce of crab meat (one bite). Tuna dishes were cooked to proper temperature but there was nothing exceptional about them. Dover sole was overcooked, not quite like cardboard but not too far off. Service was adequate but nowhere near exceptional. It's a bummer as I was excited to try out the new Joe Muer's in Bloomfield Hills, but the one in the Renaissance Center is much better. I would not go back to, nor recommend, the new location in Bloomfield Hills.
pleasant experience and friendly waitstaff. my companions had the salmon and said it was delicious. I had the whitefish and it was excellent. The waiter was very helpful and fun. There was a pianist who played contemporary songs. At one point however a crowd gathered around the musician and were a little noisy so that we could not hear each other. Overall the experience was pleasant and nice.
Our waitress was not warm or welcoming. The food was just okay. Over priced bottomless Mimosa.
Very fresh and excellent quality ingredients in flavorful dishes. Very expensive.
Adult atmosphere with a business casual dress code which they appear to try to strongly encourage if not enforce ( appreciated), excellent service by a mature and professional wait staff, comfortable surroundings, excellent food, moderate noise level facilitating easy conversation over a business lunch or special dinner with spouse or a date. Best restaurant in town for seafood. Steaks are very good. In my opinion, a fine restaurant for people who appreciate beautifully prepared and delicious seafood, steaks, and sides without having to dine with noisy undisciplined children and boorish male adults whose idea of dressing up for dinner in a fine restaurant is scuffed up dockside shoes, jeans, a too tight polo or T- shirt, and a baseball cap.
One of the area's premiere restaurants. Absolutely terrific.
I had a great time
Lamb chops were all fat and terrible. Two people had perch one was raw the other was way over cooked.
Expensive but very good. Use for special occasions.
With The Lark gone, this is perhaps the best of the local restaurants. They have even installed a sushi collection. Joe Muer was always good and nothing has changed over the years.
We started off with an apatizer, steamed mussels. They needed salt and some flavor. Dinner was good, we had a seafood plate and sushi. Both were great. What I didn’t like however is that we were asked if we wanted soup or salad. My husband got soup and I got a salad. We didn’t know that’s they weren’t a part of the meal based on how the question was asked. Soup was not good at all and salad consisted of a head of lettuce cut in half and sprinkled with bacon bits. Not worth the $25 that we didn’t know we would owe. That’s was disappointing. Desert was good, we had a chocolate cake. Overpriced in my opinion. Overall this is a one time stop.
Outstanding food and service although it is quite pricey.
Anniversary lunch was exceptional experience for service and food. Special dessert presentation was a surprise and delight.
The only salad they have to pair with a steak is the lettuce wedge - iceberg lettuce - as one would get at Denny's. All places with a decent steak serve Caesar salad. The Halibut I had was nothing to write home about - especially for the steep price. Service was good - but a little intrusive. There are a lot of better values around town.
Excellent atmosphere....Good food.......opulent ambiance
Wonderful food, outstanding service and lovely ambience
Timing was wonderful. Separating the volume of space helped keep noise level to a good level. No need for shouting where we were sitting. Service was superb. Food was excellent, although the Walleye was super salty.
Amazing food each time i go and piano player is great addition to the already perfect ambiance.
