Indian
Kanishka in the heart of Mayfair focusses on the unexplored cuisine from seven sisters of India - THE NORTHEAST which is - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura & Sikkim.

It has a food culture that is as vibrant as its heritage and as beautiful as its people. From lanes packed with humble carts serving speciality dishes, to rows of eateries that overflow onto roads, the streets of Northeast India are a gastronomic kaleidoscope.

It is our humble attempt to bring this enchanting cuisine & culture in the heart of Mayfair through our experimental yet honest cooking at Kanishka.

We had a great evening celebrating my husbands birthday. We were instantly made to feel very welcome, the ambiance of the restaurant was spot on. The food as expected was absolutely delicious, we were spoilt as course after course of the tasting menu arrived at our table. We will definitely be visiting again and recommending Kanishka to anyone that will listen. Thank you for a memorable evening.

The food was brilliant. My only quibble is that we went for my brothers birthday and I asked for a special note to be made that when the dessert came out- if they could add a birthday note or something on the plate. My mother also asked when we were there. We ordered two desserts and got ready with our phones trying to be discreet but clearly the note and second request was forgotten so there was no birthday moment which was disappointing. I've never been anywhere before where we've even asked twice and it hasn't been done. So that was sad BUT the food was amazing. And the service was really good apart from forgotten birthday request.

A few points to note -
- Wobbly tables even when we moved twice
- slow food service
- chipped beer glass
- main course was bland and not worth the money.
It's a regular Indian restaurant with over inflated prices. Not the fine dining experience I expected.

Simple superb in every way. Fantastic choices on the set price menu. Some of the very best Indian cooking. Turkey tikka pie was brilliant. Beetroot kebabs disappeared very quickly so must have been good. Similar standards in the main course. Really highly recommended

Thoroughly enjoyable evening with tasting menu and pairing wines. Great staff and friendly service. Not the most lively place and expensive. Worth a treat though!

Had an amazing time at Kanishka. I took my bother there for his birthday and we had the tasting menu.
I was a bit hesitant as I don't particularly like scallops or monkfish but they turned out to be two of my favourite dishes out of the tasting menu. The dessert was also to die for.
Rice pudding and peanut butter parfait. It was amazing. I would definitely go back and would be keen to try lots of other dishes on the menu.

Some very good cooking on the tasting menu. However I was disappointed with some elements that did not combine on the plate. Get this right and it will be outstanding. Tables in the front are too crampt.

Service and food were of a good quality. The experience overall does not match the price you are paying and therefore value for money is poor.

My wife and I have eaten at Atul Kochhar's Benares a few times, so we were looking forward to eating at Kanishka. We were not disappointed, the food was very good. The Restaurant has a totally different vibe and layout to Benares, where you know you are in a Michelin starred restaurant from the moment you enter. Kanishka is a bit more like the curry houses you would find on any UK High Street, bar to one side when you come in and tables laid out beyond that. The similarity ends there though. The food is the star of this restaurant and clearly has a personal influence, eg Dad’s Murg Makhani, Atul's Chicken Tikka Pie - we ate both and they are excellent dishes. A few small, various poppadums arrive before starters with a tamarind chutney. Service is quick, friendly and well informed. The wine list reasonably priced for Mayfair, though I thought the beer was a bit pricey. Starters are £12 - £22 and mains £18 to £30 + £5 for rice or a Naan and portions are good/generous. Overall value is good for Mayfair. There is also a function room in the basement which was being used for a 30th Birthday Party. The restaurant was also full, but this had no impact on service or food quality. The a la carte menu has 10 starters and 10 mains so it's kept simple - but really delicious. I will definitely recommend this restaurant and return myself

My wife and I had eaten at Kanishka shortly after it opened and were very impressed. It certainly didn't disappoint on a return visit for a late Saturday lunch. It was busy and sociable without tipping over into noisiness. We chose the reasonably priced 3 course set menu which had 3 choices per course. The food was deliciously different and presented attractively. Flavours were full and exciting and the subtle spicing was masterfully executed and a lesson in how Indian food should be prepared. The staff were attentive and friendly, always ready to offer help, without being intrusive. There was no pressure, subtle or otherwise, to hurry us along, despite our late booking time, and in fact we were welcomed to enjoy a coffee and petit fours (and a well-made cocktail) at the attractive bar. This is a really good restaurant and definitely worth further visits.

A very pleasant restaurant with all you might expect from this chef. The soft shell crab was good, as was the venison, the monkfish and the dessert. I would have no qualms recommending this restaurant to a friend.

A birthday treat we chose the vegetarian and dead animal tasting menu with premium wine pairing: some of the wines were a revelation and all were great matches for the food. A tasting menu can have too long between the courses but not here, it came out perfectly, never rushed but never delayed. The portions were of good size, although we both should have held back earlier, by the time we got to our sixth course we were already full, but the flavours were just too tempting to resist.
All staff were informative and helpful, we even got to shake the hand of the great man - a splendid evening!

Didn’t think the set menu was value for money. Staff are very pleasant.

If a restaurant of this standard wants to aim for a Michelin Star they need to get your communication right. I hosted 3 guests and called the restaurant specifically to say that I should be settling the bill to what I was assured that it would be no issue. Ofcourse my client insisted and whilst I appreciate that is always a difficult and awkward situation the very best restaurants know how to handle these situations. Kanishka did not! Despite my insistence, the waiter took it upon himself to charge my clients card without a care in the world. The best restaurants would have their staff refer to a manager or as a last resort fall back to the name of the booking which was mine. Fantastic food and more than decent service to that point but unfortunately a meal ruined by the lack of communication.

Truly superb food, the quality was top notch. And make sure you go with a good appetite as the servings are very generous. Many highlights but the octopus starter was so tender and wonderfully flavoured, the dark daal was incredible, the mushroom biryani beyond moorish and both the venison and goat main dishes were brilliantly done. The staff were very friendly and particularly careful with my friend's food allergies. Nothing was too much trouble and it was also very nice to meet Atul Kochar as he popped out to say hello to us. For truly high end Indian cuisine this should be at the top of most people's lists.

Arrived just before the kitchen closed but we were still accommodated. The food was amazing. The chicken in the Dad’s Marg Makhani was tender and succulent and the flavours were just as I expected of an authentic North Indian dish and reminiscent of my own mother’s cooking.

Will definitely come again.

A first visit to a much recommended restaurant will, definitely, not be the last.
From a charming welcome - after a traumatic drive from South West London encountering a plethora of road closures and highway repairs - the attention received from a well informed staff was second to none!
The food and ambience was first class.
All in all, having chosen a central London Venue to meet up with friends visiting from the Channel Islands, we were, all, enchanted with the experience.
Thank you Kanishka.

Had the Diwali set menu - 3 courses and a cocktail for £35. Excellent value. Great ambience, good service. Would come again on special offers. Based on quality of food in set menu, a la carte is probably also worth it if you can spare the money.

Only our second visit to Kanishka as we are not in London a lot, only for shows etc.
This time we had the A la Carte menu and were blown away by the Tikka Pie and Lamb Biryani. It has quite a nice ambience unless you are sat next to a table with 6 or 8 people when the noise level is a bit high due to the limited table spacing. We will go again next time we are in London as the food is stunning!

Dahl burnt; Monkfish curry had been sitting for a while & formed a film on top - tepid. Naan cold.
Husbands Biriyani was stodgy.
Been before and had excellent experience hence went back for Birthday but incredibly disappointing
And manager on duty didn’t have the gravitas to be able to deal with the situation effectively

And please stop playing 1970s like disco music. It’s really annoying in a restaurant.

Great food, fantastic service! In terms of ambience - I liked the interior design but found the music volume + genre didn’t seem to fit. Staff were attentive, really knew their food well and seemed to enjoy working there. We ordered the biryani (spicy!), baingan (spicy!), yoghurt (creamy, natural, delicious), octopus (amazing) and chicken tikka pie (very good).
Would highly recommend dining here.
