Our Durham, NC Japanese restaurant is the only Kanki location with a To-Go number, and we make picking up take out orders fast and simple with designated parking spaces and an easily accessible “Take Out” door.
Kanki will only seat complete parties. Please have all your guests accounted for prior to seating. Incomplete parties must wait to be seated until all has arrived.

My wife and I ordered the petite and regular Filet Mignon. Waiter tried to sell us doing combo but my wife must have Filet for texture. He said shrimp was extra $5. I agreed. Charged me $9. I wouldn't have added if known that. Ordered 6 drinks not 7. Spent $139 for the 2 of us should've been $126. Sad part, gave me 3 shrimp because he gave the other family part of mine. Asked for 3 more after everything was done, then overcooked the 3 extra. The whole time he gave that other family so much more than us. It was father,mother,and 2 children but they were in there 20"s. One was a teacher for 14 years. He concentrated more on them than the 2 of us. We're in our late 60s. Go to Duke Medical every 3 months for wife's treatment. We've been wanting to go there since her first brain tumor surgery almost 2 years ago. We stay across the street at Spring Hill Suites. You're always busy so I made reservations 2 weeks in advance and get treated like that. Still gave the waiter $20 tip. After fibbing and the cooks treatment, we were not impressed.

Chef was going through motions. Was not as personal as hoped for
Restaurant seems to be short of staff with staff trying to service a large number of guests. Food was good. Wait time was about 45 minutes seated til we got our food. Overall, a good experience.
Dinner is always fabulous at the Kanki!!! So fabulous that we try to eat there several times a month. We love the SHOW, the CHEFS and the WAITSTAFF!!!

We book a reservation thru the app when we arrived we were seated quickly service fast and prompt chef was funny and a good cook food was great
This was by far and away the worst dining experience I have ever had. We had a large group of people that made a reservation a week in advance. When we got to Kanki, we sat at the table for an hour and a half without a chef coming. Upon asking the “manager” when we could expect the chef to start she replied “you’re a large group, it’s not my problem you have to wait. Why don’t you just sit back down. You guys ordered a round of drinks so it’s your problem that you have to wait for food”. Our group ended up leaving without eating at all. I am genuinely disgusted by this experience. The “manager” is absolutely terrible and truly the most rude and obnoxious I’ve ever encountered.
Great place to eat for a special occasion. It is very expensive.
Our waitress and cook were perfect last night! It was by far the “best” service we’ve ever had at Kanki. Our cook totally out did himself. We were entertaining our nephew from Pennsylvania, and he was beyond happy with his entire “first” time experience. We said to each other several times what a great night it was!

The Manager was rude in her tone telling us Home Depot were still giving out mask. She needs be trained on people skills. She was a real B!!! The rest of the staff were very friendly food was delicious. Other than the tone of your manager it was a pleasant experience.

The food, as always, was delicious. I got the ribeye. The ginger dressing is so good I could have made a full meal out of salad. I've gone to Kanki for 30 years but less so recently. Probably because of COVID precautions, the ambience was just not as entertaining as it used to be. Except for the chef, the staff was not all that friendly but they did do their jobs. I had reservations but the time between arrival and food service was still quite a wait and this was at 2:00 pm. I would still go back but my expectations have been lowered.

We unfortunately ended up being put at a table with a large family celebrating a 2 year old’s birthday. It was definitely not a nice/relaxing ambiance for me, celebrating my 36th birthday. The food was overcooked because the flat top was too hot. It was turned up too high because we were moved to a new table after the chef found a dead fly on the original cooktop. The highlight of the night was our server. Maddie was absolutely amazing and attentive!
Had to wear a mask just to walk 12 feet to table and once seated it took about 45 minutes for the cook to come to table to start cooking. We didn’t get the soup and salad until halfway through dinner. Next time I will go before 8pm. Food was good- my medium well steak was cooked “well done”. Prices too expensive for this amount of wait and food.

6:30 Reservation, sat at 7:15 and got there 10 minutes early so that we were timely. No staff approached us to take an order until we had to ask the manager twice, then finally the manager took our order 20 minutes after the first time asking him which was now after 8 pm. Finally got our drinks and continued waiting for another 30 minutes, the non-related family sitting at our table got up and left because the wait was absurd and all of the tables around us that came in after we did were being served but for some reason our table was ignored. We asked to see the manager again to discuss and the chef said he refused to come back to our table. Finally the chef came out ( who was the best part of the dinner) and a fight breaks out in front of us between patrons at another table and the one waitress we saw working. Eventually the police were called which was another disruption to our dinner. The food was good, no doubt, but the entire evening was a disaster. We do not live in Durham but many of my co-workers had high praise for Kanki. To top it all off, it was my birthday dinner and the way it went upset my wife and mother in-law and my two children at dinner. Lastly, you would think the manager would have compensated us for the awful experience we had (not looking for hand outs, but it was an awful experience) and he did not, charged us full price for all the meals: 4 adults and 2 kids meals. I understand the employment market and staffing issues, but if you cant service the customers, then don't over book your reservations. We wrapped up our dinner around 9:00 pm after waiting for the check for 15 more minutes. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in my life. More than likely will not be going back to this place.
It was my kids birthday and they sit us with a family with two crying kids, took to long to start didn’t get the request to sing happy birthday to the kids and food nor the flat soda was worth 155.00 for a party of 4.! Never again

Our cook was not the friendliest. It was my sons birthday and it seemed like he was annoyed and didn’t want to be there. His name was Charlie. I’ve never had an experience like that before. I was really disappointed because the other cooks around seemed as if they enjoyed being there.
They was kind and polite very respectful from the time my party of 16 came until we left the host ,waitress and the cooks was amazing through out the night, Can’t wait to come back had so much fun having my daughter dinner party there at Kanki in Durham NC, they made it extra special for her she really had fun as well as my party of 16 it was the best restaurant I ever ate at I love everything about the service Thanks kanki for making my daughter special day very special we appreciate it so much it meant a lot to us Thanks Again 🥰
I only gave 3 stars because our cook was great! He was very attentive to the us as the customers, almost more attentive than the waitress.
He apologized and thanked us for our patience because we waited over an hour before the cooking started.

We came for my little sister birthday she turned 11, we had the best time the drinks were great the food was even better then I remembered from being a kid my entire family had a great time.
Server took my order and didn't see them again until time for the check. Had to get the bartender to refill my wife's drink.
This was my second time dining at Kanki's and it was such a unique and pleasant experience, the chefs are so skilled and professional, I brought more people with me this time. They were highly entertained and loved it. When I mentioned eating out there a friend of mine told me that she also dined there that weekend with some out of town guest,and they loved it also.
Had reservations for 2:30,arrived at 2:00,went in at 2.20,gave name .Desk person said a couple of minutes,30 mins as past,went to desk,and ask how much longer,she applied by saying we only have two cooks, everyone else called out,I ask why you didn't say anything before,She didn't answer,final she called my name,the table that we was at,the floor was so dirty and nasty,My Husband and to go find someone to sweep,We Love going here but after yesterday (Sunday)just don't know anymore.
Took our server over 10 minutes to greet us. We ordered drinks from the bar the bar only had 1 customer we waited 30 minutes before our server brought us our drinks which were watered down. The food was not great the chef was very quiet and didn’t say much the whole time also didn’t give that hibachi feel like the other chefs were doing. My husband was supposed to get double salad being that he doesn’t eat the soup that’s didn’t happen. The other family at our grill had the same issue! Would not come back again. Was beyond disappointed.
We had 3:00 reservations and drove over a hour to eat here. We didn’t get seated until 3:40 and the cook started cooking at 4:10. The manager did apologize and gave us a discount but the service should be much better than this. The lady beside us had 3:00 reservations as well and she had been up to the desk twice she eventually ended up leaving.
Brought my nieces and nephews here last night and the service was horrible! It had been a while since we came and I def understand that Covid has hit places hard but yesterday was bad from start to finish! We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation time and then had to wait at least 20 minutes. Even though you guys constantly hassle people about making sure the whole party is there before you seat everyone yet you guys are allowed to delay our reservation without any recourse! Then our server was OK but we put in drink orders and the glasses were dirty. Had to wait another 15 minutes just to get a replacement. We put appetizers and main course food orders in thinking it would be spaced out. NO! The chef started cooking and giving us food before we even got our apps. Everything was a mess, felt rushed, the chef was no fun at all and with kids at least make an effort, and the food was actually horrible! No taste or flavor. Just felt like you guys didn't want us there and the chef had no desire to be there. Worst experience we have had there.
Overall The food was great, it was very quiet Wich was nice for a change. Our server did not perform to what we thought he should. His food was great but it would have been nice to see more of a show.
