Serving authentic heritage Peranakan cuisine right here in Chicago with weekly special Kuih - desserts.

What is Peranakan cuisine?
Peranakan cuisine or Nyonya cuisine comes from the Peranakans, descendants of early Chinese migrants who settled in Penang, Malacca, Singapore and Indonesia, inter-marrying with local Malays. In Baba Malay, a female Peranakan is known as a nonya (also spelled nyonya), and a male Peranakan is known as a baba. The cuisine combines Chinese, Malay, Javanese, South Indian, and other influences.

The Peranakan cuisine embraces interracial, intercultural union which created the unique culture and cuisine known as Peranakan.

10/10 as always. Kapitan is the most authentic Singaporean/malay food I’ve had outside of Singapore and Malaysia. Never disappoints.

Really great food and service! Not a super busy night. Will definitely go back, especially since it’s so close to the movie theater.

Very authentic food and great service. My friend and I are both from Singapore and missed our home, so we were very happy to be able to eat food from home and reminisce. I especially liked the cendol and satay!

I am not sure how this place got a 4.5 rating. It has definitely slipped. We drove in rush hour traffic from the burbs to taste authentic Malay cuisine. Our server was friendly, and the food was edible/good not fabulous. The “Gluten Free” menu was loaded with many items obviously not gluten free and confirmed by the server not gluten free. We ordered an appetizer and drinks. I had to ask twice for a lemon for my beer. We ordered laksa soup which was tasty but void of any vegetables, whole egg, or eye appealing garnish like cilantro. When the soup arrived right away and we hadn’t received the appetizer, the waiter looked at us puzzled and said “I’m sorry the soup comes out fast”. A trip to The ladies room, 2 flights of stairs to a lower level, produced a slight headache due to all light fixtures continually flashing/strobing. There appeared to be no manager on duty. Dessert was a warm pudding of starchy veggies and beans… sweet but largely lackluster. Sadly we won’t be returning. I think many restaurants today are suffering from lack of good help and supervision to run well and satisfy patrons.

Great Malay cuisine with all the traditional favorites like Roti Canai, Nasi Goreng, and Beef Rendang. Good service, sizable portions, and interesting cocktails. Big enough for large groups.
