Kau Ba
With a massive following of hungry diners on social media and her recognition on popular food programs such as Netflix Ugly Delicious or Somebody Feed Phil; chef Nikki Tran is bringing her palette to America with her take on Viet Cajun, VIEJUN
The food was great! Shaded outdoor seating for lunch and not busy.
Drinks are very good, nice craft cocktails. Good is a bit oily. Fried, but oil prevails and masks other flavors. Creative menu but quality of meat is so-so. Strong odor of bleach coming from kitchen interferes with enjoyment of meal.
The cocktails always amaze, and C. Morris is a great bartender. Every time I go, I'm always leaving with a new favorite or something I need to try more of. The food was excellent, and it was the perfect way to end a strange week.
Another Montross neighborhood hidden gem.
Kau Ba offers fresh and delicious Viet Cajun dishes that are very satisfying. The outdoor patio is a very fresh and comfortable setting, with ceiling fans to deal with typical Houston weather and California space heaters that can keep you comfortable during a winter dinner. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and friendly but a little shorthanded on the night we went. We will definitely return to try other dishes on the menu.
BTW, Happy hour from 3 PM until 630 offers very reasonable appetizer pricing, two dollar beer and discounts on craft cocktails!
Amazing happy hour!
Service was extremely attentive - food is consistently fantastic.
Good Vietnamese fusion food. We went twice and like everything we ate.
We love the outdoor seating!
We plan to go back with friend.
The food and service were excellent! I will go there again and again😊
This is my third time here and I favor some dishes over others. We really love the outdoor seating area, except when a landscaper is mowing a lawn across the street or when a car is revving its engine speeding down Dunlavy. Our waitress is super sweet. Food is good overall, yet pricey, but it is in Montrose. Anyway, it's a nice place to hang out and chat when the weather is pleasant.
Wonderful service.
Nice outdoor seating
Easy reservation process
Great menu selections
FOB (soft shell crabs) are the best thing on the menu!
We have been dining at Kau Ba since Covid as it offers a fantastic outdoor dining! The wait staff are excellent! Everyone goes the extra mile to take our temps and confirm to our new standards due to Covid!
My second time at this restaurant was just a memorable as my first. There are plenty of pandemic precautions in place. If you’re lucky you can catch the wonderful happy hour menu. I’ve tried almost half the menu now and every dish is packed with wonderful flavors. I will definitely come back on my next trip to Houston. Highly recommend.
Everything was good, but not all equal. The weakest of our choices was the chef's egg rolls, which were relatively bland compared to the rest of the meal. Nonetheless, everything was very good, with generous, though not enormous portions.
Our service was poor until our waitress received assistance from other staff, then it got better. We had to repeat our orders multiple times and ask for items such as more glasses for water, another set of silverware, had to ask multiple times where the green tea that we ordered was because it was just taking way too long on a chilly evening. The food was good, but we had a very awkward experience there and are hesitant to ever return.
Great food, drinks and service.
The elevations of specialty foods can lose some of the traditional aspects, but I am always up for something new.
Great patio.
Fabulous food. Great service.
Friend and I went for an early dinner at 5 PM and sat outside at a two top table. We were happy to find out that there was a happy hour menu that went until 6:30. They were happy to let us visit and keep ordering until we left at 7:30. Food was delicious and service just right for keeping the food coming.
The food is really wonderful!
The shrimp tamarind was excellent. There were no true vegetarian options. The ones available still were prepared with fish sauce and without that, were bland
The patio was super cute, excellent COVID precautions, and the service and food were amazing!
I really wanted to LOVE this place. I think my expectations might have been too high. Vietnamese and Cajun are my favorites. Although my food was delish, the three people with me did not love their food. I had the Southern Bun Bo XAO with shrimp. Excellent. One of my friends ordered the ribs which were recommended by the waitress, and they were dry and chewy. We were excited to sit outside but the seating wasn't very comfortable. It is SUPER casual. The website makes it seem like it is a bit more upscale than it is. Service was very good. Overall, I would say I should give it another try because my food was so good. Maybe my friends just picked the wrong things.
I have been wanting to come here for weeks. I really loved the food selection here and the Rose she recommended was perfect with my meal. I love a good place to sit outside and vibe. Definitely a great place! Glad I stumbled across on instagram!
Good vibe great drinks good food
I definitely do like this place! I visit it every time when I’m nearby! They always serve delicious food & drinks and provide high-quality service. Highly recommend it!
Overall a very good choice! Some of the food was on the bland side. Great cocktail list and plenty of wine choices.
Server was very friendly, food was perfect!
Great food, best Vietnamese I’ve had in a while. The cocktails were phenomenal
Walked in and felt like a part of the place almost immediately. Chris was amazing as our bartender, being able to hold a conversation and make all the drinks on his tickets. The food was incredible, and I cannot wait to go down the menu. Drinks were great, and all I had to do was ask for a liquor and Chris knocked a drink out.
Thank you all for the great experience!
Amazing food casual environment love love the bartender he is very creative
Outdoor patio was great. Service was also great.
Food was bland, not at all Vietnamese or Cajun, just bland. All 3 dishes we ordered could have been the same dish, they tasted so bland...
Kau Ba features an imaginative collection of Vietnamese food. Having worked in Vietnam for 8 years and enjoying its variety of cuisine from Hanoi to Saigon, its seafood-based delights from Da Nang and Nha Trong to the Mekong Delta, Kau Ba certainly holds it own and brings specialty Vietnamese cuisine to Houston. I highly recommend it!
Such a great dining experience. The food and drinks were delicious. The food transported me back to my Vietnamese grandmother's kitchen, but with a delicious unique twist. Every bite just makes you smile. Definitely get the FOB crabs & the Grandma's subsidy, they were light and packed full of flavor. Chris our bartender is definitely a master of his craft - each cocktail he made was well balanced and perfect.
Delicious food! Will definitely be going back. Fun and big patio space! Would love to try their brunch. Great atmosphere and their place are very clean and exhibit safe social distance practices. Highly recommend ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Food was delicious. Nice, friendly service.Drinks were perfect too. Already been back twice in the last week.
One of my all time favorite restaurants in Houston. Great casual yet cool atmosphere, friendly attentive staff, and the food is delicious.
Outstanding servers. Very helpful. And no touch menu can be scanned for the phone. Social distancing observed. Food very good
If you like Vietnamese food at all, do yourself a favor and go!
Food was so delicious and fresh. Service was wonderful! Highly recommend!
The food and cocktails were fantastic, will def go back.
