   Best Afro-Panamanian food in Panama. Chef Armando and Isaac have created a must go experience. I have been dinning here for 10 years and they always come through for hosting my family and friends. Perfect for tourist that want local vibes with global professionals.

   Overall a very solid restaurant with very well prepared plates. Everything we had was delicious, including drinks. I would definitely go back if I were local/in the neighborhood, but don’t think anything was unique or exceptional enough to go out of my way to dine here.

   Oh. My. God. My first time in Panama and I would come back for the food and staff alone. From the moment we pulled up, they opened the door to our Uber and helped us out of the car. They offered us to sit inside or outside even though the reservation was made minutes prior. We opted to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful lights and bar design. We also had a view of the busy kitchen, which made us appreciate the food more. After we were seated, we ordered drinks. They were NOT stingy on the alcohol. Everything was beautifully presented, drinks were filled to the brim and well tasty. Once the drinks started, they made sure we had appetizers to go with. The fish fritters were better than my mom’s (sorry mom!) and were hot and crispy with. Soft doughy inside. Omg, so much flavour. When we ordered, Daniel gave us a bit of story about the dishes, the inspiration, the flavours and the process to make them. We felt like we were in the kitchen with the staff as he spoke, and when the food came, we had so much more appreciation for the hands that prepared it. I had the oxtail and rice and peas. Perfect. No notes. My husband had the steamed fish with creamy escovich. Again. No notes. The West Indian/Caribbean/African influence jumped out and kissed me on the lips. I have never had such an experience before. God bless the entire staff at La Tapa Del Coco and I cannot wait to come back!

   So, I finally made it to La Tapa del Coco. I was expecting the kind of place that serves soul food with a little flair—and they definitely delivered on that. But… let’s be real, not everything was as fabulous as I’d hoped. First, the good stuff. The clams in curry? Holy moly. If I could marry a sauce, I’d put a ring on this one. It’s creamy, spicy, and just everything you want in life. And the codfish croquettes? Perfection. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with that berry sauce that’s got this magical balance of sweet and spicy. These dishes? Absolutely worth the trip. But then… the burger. Now, I know this burger’s got a reputation. It’s been crowned “the best” at some point, and I can see why—juicy, flavorful, and with that chicharrón making an appearance. It’s like a party in your mouth, but… it’s like the cool kid at the party who doesn’t talk to you much. It’s good, but it doesn’t make you want to shout from the rooftops. Here’s the deal: La Tapa del Coco has so much potential. The food’s got heart, the flavors are on point, and you can tell they’re passionate about their dishes. But for a place that’s ranked in the 100 Best in Latin America? Some of the hits are real home runs, and some are just… okay. If you’re in it for the vibe and a few unforgettable bites, you’ll be good. But if you’re looking for the full experience? Maybe leave the high expectations at the door.

   The meal and service were fantastic. Innovative comfort type food. Clams were delicious. The big surprise was the vegan Chinatown dish. La comida y el servicio fueron fantásticos. Tipo de alimentos innovadores confort. Almejas eran deliciosos. La gran sorpresa fue el plato vegano Chinatown.

   Amazing! Love the revamp they’ve made and very attentive, polite staff. The shrimp in curry sauce was my absolute favorite as well as the torrejitas.
