My sons and I were celebrating my youngest son’s graduation from Navy boot camp and both of them wanted steak. I selected the Lake House. Both of my sons were floored by the price of the steaks so they ordered pasta dinners. Both of them were disappointed with their dishes and very glad that they didn’t order steaks. We all wished that we had chosen a different restaurant that evening. Ambiance was nice, service was lackluster. All in all, the experience was disappointing.
the fish fry, Northern Pike is delicious. on Fridays. we brought 2 couples with us who have never been there and they all said we'll be back. I think the waitress was a little new so the service was not up to par. we for sure will be back. love the little salad bar, just enough variety.
Food and service was outstanding. My wife and I had their famous breasted chicken dinner and totally understand why people wave about it. Also had their salad/soup bar which is delicious, bountiful and well worth the price.
We were seated in a very nicely located table and the hostess remembered that she had sat us in a less desirable location last week and asked if this table would be satisfactory. One smart and aware representative of the restaurant. Waitress was personable and very attentive to our needs. We will be back.
Sunday brunch is outstanding. Love the endless mimosas, custom omelets, and delicious Belgian waffles. $19.95 per person is an excellent value. This is my new brunch spot.
Lake House is a wonderful restaurant with good food and an attentive staff. Their live jazz music on Saturday night adds to your special experience. Would make trip from Chicago to experience their hospitality again.
Food was awful! I honestly surprised how this place has been called restaurant. Bar maybe. But food was awful. Salad bar is a joke. Fish fry? They have no idea what fish fry is. Poor people who eats it. They don’t know any better. Good location with potentials. Hire a good chef
Had the skirt steak dinner and my husband had the walleye. Everything was spot on and delicious.
The food was excellent, the service was warm and friendly, just wish we were not on our way to a concert and could’ve had a chance to stay for the music… Will definitely visit again
We waited to be seated for about 5 minutes after the hostess stop texting on her phone, when seated our waiter seemed disinterested in serving us and only came to our table maybe twice. Food was ok wish the experience was better.
We went Saturday night for my husband's birthday and had a most enjoyable time! They had a very good jazzie kind of band that was playing which made for a nice ambiance. Service started out rather slow but got better. Food was very good! I had the fried shrimp which was excellent. Hubby had horseradish encrusted prime rib which he loved and my boys had lobster fettucine. Also very good. My only complaint is that we were seated in a booth near the door and the band. If it had been colder out, that booth would have been too cold to sit at with a big draft. Sitting close to the band wasn't terrible but it was a bit loud. I thought that with a reservation, we would have had a more prime spot. I guess I could have requested another table before they seated us. There were other tables open. All in all, we had a very nice meal and a very nice time.
Restaurant side is like a fine dining restaurant and is really nice. The bar which is connected was not very nice at all. If you are into video gaming and close tables, then you'll be fine. I would never book a reservation again in the bar, but I didn't know it was like that since the other side is so nice. Also....the vegetables that come with the entrees - carrots and broccoli specifically are not cooked which I fine odd. I always forget about that and every time i've ordered an entree they were not cooked, so it wasn't just one time. The fish is really tasty, but if I'm paying $30 for an entrée, I would expect the sides to be better.
I've been to this place at least 4 times, I'm not sure I would go back.
A great place with variety and a great service.
Went there for Walleye Fis Fry. Very good. All you can eat, so you don't go away hungry!
The breasted chicken is fantastic. A must have.
One of our go to places. Love the live music on Saturday nights. Food is good and priced reasonably.
Wonderful as usual! My friend and I each tried two new dishes that we hadn’t tried before. Both were very good.
Love this place, has a sports bar attached If you want to watch the games. But the restaurant is very quiet with a piano player for brunch. Great value, I go there all the time to watch the Cowboys....
One of our go to places. Salad bar is a deal and drinks are very reasonable. Love the live music on Saturday nights, but wish they played longer!
Never disappoints. When our family or the kids are in town we always take them to the Lakehouse. Always a great meal and great time.
Great food! Our server went above and beyond for us!
As usual the service from Diane was great and the Prime Rib was wonderful. The homemade soup and salad bar is a good way to start the meal.
I was disappointed that the Sea Bass special was not available but substituted the salmon and it was delicious. The portion size was big so I had some leftover for the next day. Our server was very attentive and kind. The creamy garlic dressing from the salad bar was amazing. I would come back just for that!
We wanted to have a meal prior to our son leaving for college and we chose the Lake House for this. We have had takeout from here before and it has been good.
I think the most disappointing this was they got my wife's order wrong, but instead of replacing it they wanted to see if she was OK with it. We kept it - it is easier in those circumstances. My son also ordered a pizza thinking it was an individual sized serving, but he got a whole one instead. It would have been useful if he had been told before-hand that his order did not come in one of the individual sizes.
Anyway, I'm sure we'll get takeout from here again, just not sure the whole family will sit down for a meal.
I went with a group of 13 for a Retired Staff Luncheon for my school. 6 weeks ago, they put us in the back room, where there were fewer guests and easier for us to move around. This time we were smack in the center of the restaurant. I am
Great value, salad and soup bar with minimal additional cost.
“Completely disappointed. Not a place for a celebration at all. Hostess didn’t have our reservation in the book even though she later looked and it was in open table. Not very friendly. Drinks took forever to get, server came back to the table twice to tell us she was sorry for the wait. When we got the drinks, a Long Island came in a huge mug. Bread was good - only thing that was good. Reuben egg roll was not a rolled item at all, they were wedges. No salad plates at salad bar. Soup was cold. Dinner came before we were even half way through salad. Ordered steak medium, and the (very thin) steak was blackened on the outside raw inside. Sent back and it came back we’ll done. Vegetables were way too big. Potato didn’t even taste good and I love potatoes. Didn’t even stay for birthday dessert. We are headed somewhere else. Completely owe my husband a do-over. 👎”
We really like their broasted chicken. The skirt steak was very tasty too. My husband was not thrilled with the chicken Marsala. We had a new server who wasn't very friendly or officiant. She brought the checks before we were done eating, then when she came to collect the payment, she moved the silverware onto the plate where our relative was still eating from so she could put the bill back down. She had no business touching his stuff. She even forgot our baked potato which wasn't even noticed until we asked for a to-go container. On top of that, she never even thanked us for coming. We told the manager, and he didn't really do anything about it.
We really like this place, especially when they have live music on Saturday nights. Food is good and the soup and salad bar deal is great. My husband and I were disappointed in the slow service this time, however. The restaurant was not full by any means, but our waiter took over 15 mins to take our order or even give us menus - I had to get them myself. Maybe they were short-staffed, but it was a Friday night, so you think they would staff for weekend business.
We love this restaurant. We eat there several nights a week. The food is delicious, the cove is GREAT and the service is attentive without being pushy. Highly recommended.
My first time I think a good local place to go
Had a group of 10 colleagues in for dinner on a Wednesday night. Service could not have been slower. First drink order taken at 6, second taken at 7:10 (Yup, in the 2.5 hours we spent in the restaurant we had exactly two drinks, one of our guests had a third, but she went to the bar and ordered it there). Not sure where the server was, but had to track him down to take our food order which took so long one of our guests had to take the meal to go since we didn't get food until over 1.5 hrs after arrival. Oh and then to top it off, two of our guests didn't get their meal with the rest since there was a "mix-up" in the kitchen. I've frequented the Lake House site in Lake Villa many times and thought this would be a good choice for our group based on that experience - I couldn't have been more wrong.
Worse experience. Ordered a medium rare ribeye, it came medium to medium well and tough. The waitress finally came over and begrudgingly offered to get me another. I refused as it took a long time to get the first one. My husband ordered Lake House chicken (it’s a 1/2 roasted chicken) and got a chicken sandwich. He got an apology. Was never offered refills on our drinks.. the waitress was too busy being at the bar, guess we weren’t important. We used to eat at this almost every Sunday during the summer, but have not been there in two years. Drove about 40 minutes to get there. Don’t think we will make the trip again. So disappointed,
We meet up with some friends for drinks and dinner before going to a local event. Service was so poor that we didn’t even get in a food order. Drinks were brought but then the server never came back. Finally we asked for the check, paid and left hungry.
This restaurant is awesome We celebrated my son graduation from boot camp and he really enjoyed it! I will definitely be back in March for his graduation again!!!
I arranged a Retired Staff Luncheon for our elementary school. Staff members live from Wisconsin to Northbrook and Highland Park, as well as points west. I thought this location would be perfect. I was right. The wait staff was soooooo accommodating even supplying us with 15 separate checks! They placed us in a back room and let us catch up for hours! All 15 of us had such a great time we decided to do this all again on August 13th, same time and same place! It was wonderful!!!
Lunch and dinner are great times Thank you
Atmosphere dimly lit and comfortable. Live trivia and noise from the bar area didn't carry too much into main dining area. The small plate ceviche was very filling and tasty. The special Bone in rib eye wasn't prepared medium rare as requested and the replacement was rushed so not as juicy and flavorful as expected. Menu lists a variety of beer and specialty cocktails but they were out of main liquor for one of the drinks. Server, DIane, was very attentive and friendly. Sunday brunch advertised appears to be a good value for adults and kids.
Went for a birthday. The food was excellent the service was very good and the band was good too.
Great restaurant! We had fantastic service, our waitress was amazing - went above and beyond her normal duties. Food was great and we will definitely be going back!
