Food was exceptional. Service was sketchy. We arrived early and were asked to wait in bar. Bar staff took my husband’s order , and it wasn’t until he returned that I had to ask him for mine. He should have asked both of us for orders at the same time. When we got to dining room, waitress spend an inordinate amount of time describing at least 2/3 of menu items without us asking for this. We are locals/ familiar with the menu and restaurant and had told her when she asked as we were being seated. Took 25 minutes to be served between appetizers and main course. By the time we got main course, an hour had transpired since we had been seated in dining room. Long night. We have been here many times, and never had experienced such spotty and odd service

Honestly, I’m unsure how to write this review. I’ve been to Layla half a dozen times and it’s been good. I chose to come here for my birthday. It was utterly disappointing. I’m not sure what’s happened. The service was friendly, but a little weird. On top of that the dishes just weren’t right. I ordered the tuna tostada and it was supposed to come with avocado it didn’t. I mentioned it to the server she says I’ve never seen it come with avocado and then looked at the menu, and then behold, it says avocado on the menu. My halibut at $50 for the entrée did not have a sear on it, which was bizarre because I really never seen a restaurant halibut without a sear and the flavors were just sort of muddled. Tasted more like tomato than anything else. My mother didn’t like her cod, the bok choy hard to cut. My father ordered the eggplant which was really a Mish mash of things. I mean it was all the vegetables that he really liked so I thought hed like it, but it really was just a pile of crap on a plate. The only thing that came out well was the pork cheeks that my husband really loved. The cornbread at the beginning was pretty good. We also ordered the lamb and tots which were double lamb chops they were virtually raw. I didn’t send it back. I ate a few bites of it, but that was it. I took home two of the chops so that I could actually cook them. I probably should’ve sent them back, but I’d already cut them. The server had a strange affect and kept saying thank you to everything, didn’t quite understand that my father has dementia and was making a joke and sort of looked annoyed at him. To which I said he’s making a joke. The manager did come over at some point, finally I did get a birthday dessert but we ordered one and it took 20 minutes to come out. My father paid the check so I actually didn’t look at the itemized to see whether or not they even took anything off like considering I didn’t get avocado on my dish but honestly, this was not my previous experience.

So I brought my daughter and a few friends there for her 12th birthday brunch. The ambience is 10/10. We really wanted to eat somewhere beautiful and Layla definitely had that. I ordered off the kid's menu the chocolate chip pancakes for the girls. We were a a little dissapointed when they brought them out. It was one small pancake (and it was the same price as the adult pancakes; shoulda got the adult pancakes instead). I had the eggs benedict which was delicious. They didn't refill our water the whole time we were there and I had to close the blinds because we were seating in a corner next to the windows and the sun was blazing down on us. The staff was friendly even though they were busy. I would return again for the ambience. There's a beautiful garden area in the back where you can eat as well. I wouldn't order from the kids menu again. I asked them if they did anything special for birthdays. They gave her a card but a sweet surprise would have been better. They also wanted to charge me a cake fee if I brought my own cake $3.50/slice was too much so we didn't bring the cake.

We had lunch at Layla visiting Sonoma for the day. We hadn’t been before. The site is lovely. We decided to eat on the patio. With the trees and water sound, it was very relaxing and enjoyable. We ordered ceviche to start, followed by cod sandwich, apple pecan salad and salmon salad. All were delicious. Staff was very attentive and professional. Would definitely return. The interior dining room was also pretty and would be great in colder weather.

We enjoyed a brunch on the back patio. It is a green lush environment and quiet. Service was top notch. The coffee is a local roaster with options for creamers. The food was beautiful and huge portions. We highly recommend this place.
