Mabel Gray

Mabel Gray is an absolute gem. It's hard to find restaurants with a tasting menu in Michigan, let alone one of this caliber. It's no wonder why it has received 4 consecutive James Beard Awards year after year. And at $65 for a 7-course meal, it's a steal (I hope me saying that doesn't make them raise the price.. haha). You wouldn't expect such fine dining dishes in such a casual dining atmosphere, but Mabel Gray completely blows all those expensive upscale restaurants out of the water with its creative mix of ingredients and expertly curated menu. And the fact that they change their menu DAILY is mind-blowing! It makes me want to come back every time I'm in Detroit (I'm from Toronto).

Also, our waiter Max was hilarious and super down-to-earth. He was so knowledgeable on everything from the wine pairings ($35) to every ingredient in each dish -- and even the folklore behind the name Mabel Gray! He made our night even more memorable.

I would 1000% return to Mabel Gray just to see what clever new recipes Chef James Rigato has cooked up!

Each experience here is like an adventure. Never know what you’re getting but every time it blows away any expectations.

Amazing. The food and the service is beyond exceptional.

The best, the #1, the standard setting restaurant in Metro Detroit. The menu changes daily, but is always creative with a spectacular result. Mabel Grey is just The Best!

We'd heard great things about Mabel Gray, but frankly were unimpressed with the food - particularly for the price.

We had the Chef's Menu. The good is that the dishes were made with fresh ingredients and had lots of flavor. But the flavors were just very strong - there was nothing subtle in the blending. In two of the courses, the dominating flavor was italian cheese. It tasted good, but overpowered everything else in the dish. I didn't expect two courses to have the same dominant flavor.

I had the libation selection as well - but, to my taste, the drink and food pairings did nothing to enhance each other. That's something I REALLY enjoy when its done right.

The servers were very attentive and friendly.

The tasting menu amazing! You never know what you’re going to get. They won’t even give you a hint. You can absolutely count on it being fantastic! If you can afford it, you should try it.

My husband and I went here while traveling through town. We enjoy tasting menus and this one was in our top 5 for sure. The staff was welcoming, the venue was perfect and the food was delicious! If you want a wonderful experience this place is the ticket!

Our party of 4 did the tasting menu with beverage pairing. Meal and service was outstanding. By fair the best tasting menu I have done in Metro Detroit.

The food was fantastic. Our server was very friendly and enthusiastic. We chose to do the tasting menu with the drink pairings. The timing of each of the eight dishes was perfect and food was delicious. The drink pairings were mostly spot on. I will definitely be going back.

Mabel Grey is my new favorite restaurant in Michigan.

Where to even begin. This place actually may very well without a doubt be the best establishment I have eaten at in my 25 years of existence. Their attention to detail and passion for service alone were worthy of praise. I took my boyfriend here for this 28th birthday and both of us really appreciate fine dining experiences. I have food allergies which usually exclude me from being able to partake in any tasting menu. For the first time in my life, I was able to enjoy the experience with him! This place really did go above and beyond for us! They even put a birthday candle in their heavenly lemon bar! Every dish served was “lick the plate” good! And I very well would have licked them if we weren’t in public haha so hats off to chef and the amazing team of a staff Mable Gray has!

Always an unparalleled experience of food, drinks, and service. We choose to celebrate many important moments at this restaurant and Mabel Gray never disappoints.

Very warm and engaging server, good tasting menu-pastrami was the only miss... but the mushroom carpaccio was excellent!!

We had a wonderful tasting late night at the bar. The food was fantastic. The service was impeccable and the cocktails delicious.
There was a little drama when some crazy drunk chicks wandered in, asked about shot specials, then preceded to pass out on the bar. Even though they were rude, obnoxious, and plastered, they were treated very well. Paul even gave them some fries to try to sober them up a bit. They clearly didnt know where they were. 😉

The entire experience at Mabel Gray was amazing! I would recommend being open to the tasting menu and different flavors even if they seem odd as everything tasted amazing and was fresh. Service (I believe our server was Adrian?) is on par with steak houses as they constantly are filling water, asking if you need anything, and bringing clean utensils after every meal. They also give a full breakdown of every dish and what it contains.
The chef was also accommodating to our dietary restrictions (shellfish & pregnant wife). Can't wait to go back when my wife can drink again so we can do the drink pairing menu as well.

Once again, an excellent meal at Mabel Gray. We have yet to be disappointed by the wonderful flavors and artistic presentations. We are already planning our next visit despite the fact that we live an hour away.

Service was excellent. Food was delicious with detailed presentation. A couple appetizers were ordered; the toast was awesome. Three chose entrees and two chose the tasting menu including me.

I really enjoyed the tasting menu. Just enough of each course and fully satisfied t the end of th meal.

My favorite restaurant! We always enjoy every interesting, creative and delicious bite. Dessert is not to miss.

Excellent food and service

We all did the tasting menu. Food for the most part was delicious. The main issues were the octopus, which is my usual go to item, was overcooked, and so were the mussels. Overall, still great but I'd never had a single thing overcooked here before so that was really surprising after 4 tasting menus and our 3rd trip in in the past year.

Outstanding cuisine. James is a genius. Brock our waiter was the best. I have eaten in the best restaurants here and abroad and Mabel Gray exceeds all. My pallet is yearning to go back. Thank you for being here.

As usual it was fantastic. I took my sons their for the first time and they were blown away. Still talking about it. I am also on a special diet and they accommodated me beautifully with no questions. Can't thank them enough for a great evening.
