What Insiders Are Saying
Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.
Our server was phenomenal! The food at this restaurant is great!
tucked into a nice booth, but there are no bad seats! Our server was knowledgeable and when she was less familiar with the wine, she asked the sommelier to help out. Never rushed and food came out properly timed. Just perfect with our dear friends for celebrating a birthday!
Amazing as usual! The food is outstanding.
Brunch was just ok- was expecting amazing and it was just alright- disappointed- don’t plan to revisit
The food and ambiance were great, but the service was really outstanding. Pacing of the meal was perfect, we never felt rushed and had a wonderful dining experience.
We had a reservation for four people at 12 PM, we started with four of the best mimosas in town. Then we order a pastry basket sampler followed by some prosciutto with some fresh mozzarella, but what we liked the most was the potatoes. Our meal was exceptional and none of my friends had anything bad to say about Maialino and the service. We will be definitely coming back soon.
We live in Chicago and visit NYC once or twice a year. We’ve been coming to this restaurant as long as it has been open, usually for brunch on Saturday before catching a Broadway show. Great food in a stunningly beautiful setting served by smart, engaging staff.
Anything you can ask for in a Danny Meyer restaurant is available here. It's not the cheapest spot, but like other Meyer establishments, it's very high quality. The service is excellent without being obtrusive, the food is excellent, ambiance is great and it's an ideal place to go if you want quiet conversation in highly pleasant surroundings.
Food as in past visit was excellent but the service was very slow.We had to wait over 15minutes between appetizer and main course Thankfully a hostes came by and noticed that our food had not arrived and look into it. I can aonly think it was because it was very busy but again the food was superb.
Best ricotta pancakes!
Best suckling pig I’ve had and an excellent wine selection
Great experience! Wait staff very helpful and patient with helping us choose our wine. The food was excellent. I also like the idea of it being a non-tipping restaurant. There was no loss in service at all.
The best breakfast/brunch in NYC, by far. And such a pleasure to have a no tipping policy!
Very special! One of the best Italians in NY.
Wow! We were in for a Conference and could not have been happier to have found this restaurant. Highly recommended.
Food was good but not great
Overall a good meal/experience and had high expectations given the restaurateur. The food was good, not great and it took some effort to find something I wanted on the lunch menu. The service was fine, but disappointing given it was only fine. I'm not convinced the gratuity included model is best for the customer.
I have been going to all of the DM restaurants and this honestly was my least favorite so far.
My friend and I enjoyed the prix fixe option for lunch. I had the bucatini all’amatriciana (scrumptious) and my friend greatly enjoyed the Arctic char. We started with the cheese plate which was a terrific selection of very good cheeses but what we truly loved in that course was the orange marmalade that came with it. If it was for sale, we would have come home with a jar each. Do it. Package it up and sell it at the restaurant or at Daily Provisions. One more thing which maybe people don’t notice but I notice, especially with pasta — the portion size was perfect. I can’t tell you how many times I bring food home, which I prefer not to do or just leave it behind for the trash, which I hate. Our server was great. Warm, charming and very efficient. We’ll be back.
A favorite place for us to celebrate a birthday. The food is fabulous, the service outstanding. All requests honored. Prix-fixe is terrific with many selections. The prosciutto and mozzarella was large enough to share and absolutely delicious as was the bolognese. The tortelli with added white truffle was exquisite. All the cookies are a treat--especially the hot chocolate ones for those with a sweet tooth. Never fail to have a memorable meal!
Amazing food and great service! Best tiramisu in town!!!
They include the tip which is probably why our server was so rude and short with us. I have dined there before but the server acted like she didn’t want us there
Went in for dinner on New Year's Day and was not disappointed! Highly recommend the pasta dishes here.
A classic..no bad surprises..energetic staff..excellent service..warm ambiance..keeping the same level of high quality for years..
New Year’s Eve dinner with friends. Perfect!
Wonderful service and amazing food:)
Love everything about this place. It is warm, welcoming, great staff, great food and it is not pretentious.
I so wanted to love this place. After all of the reviews in Zagat, Forbes, OT etc, I was incredibly disappointed. The reason I am giving this 3 stars is because of our server, Daniel. He was professional and incredibly polite. He is the type of server you might see at Daniel or Gramercy Tavern. The food? Mediocre at best. The buccatini was bland. It was a pile of lifeless pasta with sugary tomato sauce and 5 (I counted them) bits of guanciale. The chicory with anchovies was dismally boring and petite in size. Squid ink pasta with crab was “decent,” however, the $42 price tag (even with service included) was extreme. Sorry everyone. Head over to L’Artusi, Lupa or Frank instead. You will spend less and your palate will be satisfied.
Stellar service and incredible food. Get the slow roasted suckling pig. And as many pastas as you can stomach.
Great food. The staff never screws up.
Came with high expectation was disappointed; great ambiance, too many managers not enough service staff, ordered wine by the glass took anywhere between 8 to 10 minutes to get our wine every time. Had the lamb tartare which was excellent and the pork shoulder which was very good, had the spaghetti alla carbonara the portion was small and the sauce watery not really like a carbonara. the cacio and pepe was marginal. Asked for gluten free bread got two small slices a bit stingy. Overall experience was not worth the price.
Great service. Great food!
Really great authentically cooked and very delicious Italian food. It was a little on the expensive side but we as with everything in life you get what you pay for. This is a non-tipping restaurant but the service was so exceptionately good I felt compelled to tip our waiter. I should have got his name so I could name-check him here but if you get the guy with the beard and spectacles that’s him, however I’m sure the service would be on point whomever it was who served you! He was very happy to explain the menu and answer and questions in a relaxed and friendly manor making everyone feel happy and at ease making for a great dining experience. I’ve eaten here on my own a number of times when I’ve been in NY on business but this time I brought my family with me for the holiday season and they loved it to. Highly recommended.
this place has the best wines by the glass! I don't know much about Italian wines but when I ask the bartender for a suggestion, he/she always delivers an outstanding wine just right!
Might be the best brunch in the city. Large variety of appetizers and entrees from which to choose.
Danny Meyer restos are known for quality guest service apps were ok w/exception of the polpo which was inedible. Five of 6 ppl had pasta as mains. Each pasta was overcooked to a point of gummy. The truffles (wh & blk) were tasteless. A check was brought to table w/o our asking. We then ordered coffee which took an extended period to get . It arrived lukewarm. Service is included. How were we to register our unhappiness? I have reached out to the gen mgr of Maialino to express by unhappiness in detail. Perhaps worst meal of my year & I eat out a lot both NYC/US & France/Italy.
Awesome food and impeccable service. We will definitely be back!
One of our favorite places to go when we’re on NYC. It seems to have lost a bit of its quality recently. Hopefully just a lapse because we’ll be back. It’s always good, but was more outstanding on previous visits.
The decor , food, noise level were good. The server needed to be reminded that we ordered a bottle of wine. Our appetizers came before we were served our wine which is not acceptable.
At the end of our meal we felt that we were being rushed out. If this was a restaurant that we could have left our own tip it would not have been good.
Sorry to say this was the downfall of our experience.
