What Insiders Are Saying
Momotaro is like a Japanese Discovery Zone. You may need to sample the menu a bit, but hit your stride and it's a great meal.
Eric was an amazing waiter! Great food and experience as always.
Everything else was great.
But the service was extraordinarily poor. We were left waiting for 40 min before we finally ordered food, it was prompted by us getting the waiter from next table!!!
Very fun and delicious food!
Get the Lamb!
Sushi (hamachi) was excellent. The yakitori don was amazing. If I was hungrier I would have tried the Chahan because the people next to me were having it and it looked delicious. Maybe next time I’m in Chicago.
The food is thoughtful, creative, decadent and definitely a place I would go to again and again.
The restaurant was very good and the space was cool and interesting and very lively but not annoying. My only complaint is that we had to wait over 20 minutes for a table and we had made a reservation and the hostess was a little unsympathetic about it which is a problem for a high end restaurant. Our waitress, however, was very nice and informative.
Amazing service, food and drinks. Exquisitely fresh uni, toro, grilled octopus, wagging beef, chahan rice - not to be missed. A little bit loud for conversation. Great energy on a Sunday night.
We are foodie people and Momotaro was a bit uncomfortable. We seek out high-end and low-end restaurants all over the world. We get quality and also hope for value. The quality was fantastic, but the value was not. The menu is confusing and a bit condescending to even the most experienced diners. The menu was explained to us in a sort of matter-of-fact way that did not do it much justice. We won't go back because the Chicago restaurant scene is way too exciting. We were told something like: our chef is an expert trained sushi chef and he would never accommodate that....something to the effect of, y'all just don't understand Japanese food.
Momotaro was fabulous as always!! Great food, service and ambiance!!
Server was attentive and food/drinks were great.
Great food, drinks, and service. Was looking forward to the momotaro/tomato tartare app that I have heard some much about but disappointed to learn it is no longer on the menu!
Food was amazing, service was top notch. Charice is an excellent server and you should request her section. The sushi is not your standard or regular sushi joint. The flavors and mix of options, A5 beef selections and toro, just outstanding.
The food was absolutely delicious and we got lucky enough to sit at a corner booth spot which made the view incredible as well. Absolutely love this spot!
Everything was perfect. From the moment we walked in we knew we were in for a treat. We went with chef suggestions and enjoyed our experience entirely. We will be back!
Great Japanese restaurant with friendly prompt service, excellent traditional and inventive quality food, and cool trendy atmosphere. The value is very good as I don't think you can get much better for the price in Chicago.
Delicious, loved the upstairs which was quieter than downstairs
Seriously the best meal ever!
Very nice atmosphere, an outstanding service but compared to the price, good is too small
I made a reservation at Momotaro to meet and catch up with a friend for a late dinner (8:45 p.m.) The place was still packed at that hour, but we were seated promptly. We chose the "omakase" dinner since we were both sashimi and sushi fans. The dishes arrived at a good pace after that, and all were quite tasty. The tables were close together and the restaurant was noisy - we could still carry our conversation, but we could not easily hear the servers when they brought out the food. Since it was omakase, we had no idea what we were eating half the time - only that it was some sort of tasty fish, and there were many servings! Otherwise this is a good place to bring someone for a pleasant meal, but be prepared to shell out north of $80 per person for the omakase dinner with drinks. Ordering from the a-la-carte menu would be priced more reasonably, and would be perfectly adequate for a good meal. The omakase dinner was more than we could comfortably eat in one sitting.
Made reservations to celebrate daughters high school graduation-super service, incredibly attentive to every detail made it a wonderful evening! Would love to come back and explore the menu further!
What an amazing place! Wait staff was friendly, attentive and very helpful in explaining the menu. Food was bomb, very sexy vibe with ambient lights great for an intimate dinner!
We go out for sushi often and this was our second time at Momotaro. We continue to be impressed. The fish is so fresh and the rolls are interesting and have tons of flavor. Will definitely be back!
Love love love!
My friends and I requested the omakase option and we were able to enjoy 12 courses. Each course was delicious and high quality. The servers were also very attentive and helpful. The only downside was that it was pretty loud so it was hard to hear the servers and each other. But overall, would recommend, especially the omakase!
We’ve been to Momotaro several times and it doesn’t disappoint. Food is great but service is even better. Our server was a true food lover who really enjoys talking about the different dishes and making recommendations. Portion sizes are small (kind of “tapas”) and I found it difficult to pair items (wish they had side dishes). But overall, loved it.
The staff at Momotaro made my birthday absolutely spectacular! Honestly one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had, Chicago or abroad.
This is my second time here and I was very disappointed. The sushi was terrible. Nothing worse than mushy rolls! The service was outstanding and the other items we ordered were very good. I definitely recommend the fried rice and beef sliders.
Hands down the best sushi in Chicago! Momotaro's menu caters to the non-sushi lover as well, offering plenty of other Japanese style hot and cold plates. Great ambiance!
We ordered a few items off the menu and then let the server guide us through the rest of the evening. She was right on with her recommendations and we walked away wowed. Momotaro was definitely a high point in my trip to Chicago.
The food was excellent, combining high quality ingredients with traditional Japanese and Western cooking styles. Very knowledgeable wait staff, who could walk us through Sake pairings while still knowing in depth each dish on the menu. High end izakaya. Easily one of the best restaurants in Chicago, let alone in Boka Group's portfolio.
Awesome restaurant, and the service was great. I actually made a reservation for the wrong day and they were still able to accommodate me and my guest. The food was incredible, but more quality than quantity (which is a great thing!)
Best Japanese restaurant in The Midwest! Excellent experience.
Server was excellent. Food, as always, fresh and perfect.
Great food no matter what you get. Very fresh and delicious.
The nigiri preparation is good.
The service is slightly slow but our server knew the menu well. Excellent and creative sushi.
Unprecedented service. Amazing cuisine. Made for a special anniversary experience.
It was my second time dining at Momotaro. Both times hosting important business associates. The entire dining experience was/is consistently exceptional!! Momotaro is the best.
We ordered an additional roll (after eating our first courses) from our waiter. After waiting 20 minutes a manager came by and asked if everything was ok since we were sitting there with no food for so long. We said no and told her we had been waiting for 20 minutes for one additional roll. We also said that if it wasn’t coming soon to cancel it. She said she would find out what happened. After 5 more minutes our waiter came over and said the roll was canceled. The manager never came by again. And our waiter never apologized. The food was good, but I will never go back given this service.
