Another great evening at Momotaro. The food was outstanding and very flavorful. Our waitstaff was helpful and attentive. The chicken oysters were very flavorful and juicy. We also had the gobo, spaghetti, tsukune, tako and tofu fried noodles. The sushi was delicate, fresh and delicious! The sake (Cloudy Dreams, Drunken Snapper and Snowflake) was crisp and refreshing. I can’t wait until my next visit!
Absolutely fantastic! In the elite Chicago food scene
Food was great. One of the best sushi places for certain. Pricey.
The perfect mix of traditional and fusion, Momotaro did not disappoint. I have lived in Osaka and worked at a sushi restaurant in NYC. And, I was left with nothing but great things to say. Miguel was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The food, ambiance and staff all made our experience over-the-top!!!
Momotaro is a great place to keep returning to. Depending on the occasion one can dress it up or keep it business casual. I've even dined in on my own at the bar before and its always nice to know how knowledgeable the staff is about the food. Its easy to either fly solo or blind omakase with a few pointers here and there. I suggest try the Monks Journey with your sushi
The food is always amazing. The turnaround time for food was a bit slow - but it was the quality we love.
I liked the food alot here. The drinks were also pretty incredible. Unfortunately, our waiter was not the best. Every time we would order he would come back a few minutes later to confirm what we had just ordered. We were a group of 5 so we were a good-sized party, but still - he had to re-confirm all of our drinks and the majority of our food orders. He never thought to write it down! I would ultimately recommend this restaurant for a date night or small group. I think 5 people was too much to get the full experience and will probably go back with a group of 3 tops.
Overhyped and overpriced. Our server was great but the hostess had no interest in even asking us if we were ok with the table. It was probably the most dimly lit table in the whole restaurant. Not great for someone celebrating their 56th birthday - something she pretended not to hear when mentioned! The food at best was mediocre, with some items inedible. I have dined at almost every restaurant belonging to the BOKA group. They universally great experiences. This must be one exception or a terribly off night.
It was my first time eating at Momotaro. Disappointing .... very disappointing. Our waitress was rude. Food was 1.5 hours late and dishes came out separately throughout the night. Despite the fact that the restaurant was not full, the waiters were overwhelmed, the food was very late, the service was subpar. Even though we asked for the manager the first time it really lead to nothing and the food was still late even after we complained about the wait over 3 times. I then asked for the manager the second time, so we got the general manager who was very apologetic and did in the end discount our bill. However this does not make up for the fact that we had to wait over two hours all in all to be served our food. That being said, the food was not all that. Really not worth the hype. Will not be going back there again.
Very disappointed in the service. Server seemed to regard us as a second thought on the second level. The food was very good, but, for the price we felt this restaurant did not deserve it’s Michelin Star. Hope they learn to value each table.
Everything on the menu was amazing. Our waiter walked us through everything and we ordered accordingly. Could not have been more pleased.
Highly suggest saving room for dessert and having the peach and lavender sponge cake dessert!!
I read lots of reviews that reported expensive and not great service. We had a great server, Naam. Fun and full of personality, helpful in making selections, made my daughter's bday very special. While I knew it was expensive, it really caught me off guard when the tiny little nigri cost $9 per piece. Very nice presentation but seriously was less than half a slice I get in traditional Japanese restaurants in California and would cost $6 for two pieces...not $18. Overall, it was a fun night because of Naam and of course my daughter and making anywhere fun.
Was delicious as always. Service was outstanding and everything was amazing. Highly recommend!
Delivered on service and food quality.. looking forward for the next time I am in Chicago!
The sushi was excellent--very fresh and tasty. The appetizers--aburi buri and oyster momotaro were also very good. We came at 5:30, so the service was very prompt; the server, Essyl, was friendly and helpful. the ambiance was not Japanese, but that would hardly be possible with klsuch a high ceiling. Overall, a delightful dinner.
My family loves going to Momotaro for both special events and last minute get togethers. The food never disappoints, especially their desserts. Not sure when we will be back but we WILL be back :)
May we please have Paul as our server every time we dine with Momotaro? Exceptional service, Paul remembered our preferences and our favorites, seriously, unbelivealbe....we have come to expect great food from Momotaro, but our last experience with Paul placed it on a new level of excellence. The best!
Excellent food! If you’re in the area and have the time I highly recommend this gem! The sushi alone is enough reason to try it!
Great food and service. Very fresh plates and protiens
Great staff and helpful server with ordering! Love it when someone can guide you through! Great space and ambiance.
Amazing food, great drinks and good ambience
Food is excellent- service by our waitress very poor.
Momotaro was outstanding the last 2-3 times we’ve eaten there. This time when the menu and food were a notch below our previous experiences, we asked the waiter and found out the restaurant has a new chef.
The nigiri pieces were either tough, fishy, or had no flavor at all. The octopus appetizer was very tough, and the appetizer wagyu sliders were underwhelming meat on a bun with no flavor or color. The sushi was horrible with the chewy octopus inside, and the salmon roll was just ok, nothing special. The experience was horrible as it was a birthday and spent hundreds of dollars and left hungry as the food was almost inedible. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The Chef’s Sushi and Sashimi platters were both delicious, definitely get the Sushi platter. Each piece is dressed unique from each to accentuate their flavors! I will return to this restaurant, best sushi I’ve had so far in Chicago.
Food and service is on the high level. On couple occasions the hostesa was very rude. You should be working more how you are welcoming the guests. If I come in the future, i will come because of the food!
Fantastic first visit, will definitely be back. Great choice for dinner with friends!
Excellent fresh sushi with some creative specials. Very attentive service despite them being very busy. This place is always a good experience.
Delicious food and such a fun date night experience! Took my boyfriend here for his birthday and they printed "Happy Birthday" with his name on the menu, which was very special. Great food & service! I recommend having the chef/waiter choose your food for you if you're not picky and want to try some delicious stuff but don't know what to order.
We really like it. I especially liked the mushrooms and the lamb chops. At first we were seated in the front of the restaurant. . .but a couple with a young child sat next to us and the child was pretty active so they moved us to the back. I'm so glad they did because it had a lot more atmosphere than the front of the restaurant did.
Fantastic meal celebrating my wife's 30th! Had a wonderful dinner.
Beautiful Evening with a great foods!
Server was very attentive, friendly...exceptional service over all!!!
Nice place, good ambiance. Started off with wine, the sparkling rose was not as described by the server so declined to order another glass. Enjoyed the Panko-crusted shrimp and the scallops to start. The chili tuna and yellowtail maki was okay. I think our expectations were too high because this was highly recommended, but we left wanting to drink and eat more. Nice place to try.
Cool location with a lot of style, perfectly friendly and attentive service personnel. The food was amazing and far more than “just” sushi! The Oyabun drink was great!
We had a reservation at 9pm a little later than usual. We got there 15 minutes early we checked in, went downstairs to a whole other spot that was a bar lreeet
We loved the verity of unique sushi concepts.
Will be back
Fantastic food. Sashimi Selection I ordered was delicious and fresh. My husband is not a raw-meat eater, so his safe choices at Japanese restaurants are normally Tempura and Teriyaki, but here he was able to try more varieties such as spaghetti, shishito peppers, wangu sliders, etc. and everything he ordered he liked a lot. We also enjoyed the innovative desserts. Service was fine, just not 100% satisfactory (the first time the waitress recorded Sushi Selection rather than Sashimi) , if some room is still left for improvement. But overall fancy restaurant and great food choices.
