My boyfriend and I dined here to celebrate his birthday. It was a beautiful setting and ambiance! We loved sitting in the restaurant with glass windows; it almost felt like we were dining right outdoors. I would recommend dining here during the spring time when you're able to catch the sunset before it gets dark at 5pm. Other than that, we both enjoyed our experience and the food was delicious.

My husband and I were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary. We had seen The Mountain House on Check, Please on PBS and were intrigued by the location and view of the redwoods. It was a long drive from San Jose, but well worth it. The service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. We were seated in the back room with full views of the redwoods. We will definitely be back.

we had a wonderful meal, i had the salmon special cooked to perfection and my husband had the skirt steak also very, very good and very generous portions. We started with the house salad love the fried chick peas. Chris our waiter was great, everything brought at just the right time and friendly service. And, of course its so beautiful in the woods, beautiful views. love coming here

We had a reservation and we're seated right away. Our waiter admitted off the bat he was new, we told him it was our first time at Mountain House so we didn't have anyone to compare him to. We started with drinks and appetizers and our waiter was patient while we looked over the menu and chatted. My husband ordered skirt steak and I got the shrimp and scallops. Our food arrived and everything was beautifully presented. The steak was perfectly cooked, and the shrimp were a nice texture. I noticed my second bite that I was given the wrong meal. I asked our server if it was the primavera which he answered it was. I reminded him I hadn't ordered primavera and he took it away. While he fixed my meal, it was disappointing that he confused the only two pastas on the menu. The other disappointment was that my husband's meal got totally cold while he waited for me to get the correct entree. We ordered peach cobbler for dessert and it was delicious. Fresh peaches, creamy ice cream, it doesn't get much better. Overall it was a good dining experience. Would go back.

Overall we like MH, and the staff is in general very friendly. Sadly our waiter and food were not up to standards this visit. Waiter was friendly but unsophisticated and poorly trained for a white-table cloth establishment. The ambience of being in the middle a forest is quite pleasant and different, and while dining in the atrium gives a greater feeling of "being in the trees", the inside near the fireplace is more romatic and intimate. The Tuscan salad was so sour we could only eat a couple bites before setting it aside, and told the waiter so. The waiter should have asked if we would like a replacement salad, but did not. Nor did he take the cost of the salad off the bill. We should have asked for either a replacement salad or a refund but did not, expecting the final bill would be adjusted which did not happen. My wife's veal strip steak was very tough, difficult to cut, though properly cooked medium rare. I would not recommend either the Tuscan salad or veal. However my elk medallions were superb and highly recommended. We will return, as we enjoy the ambience though we are not in a hurry to return.
