About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Romantic
  • Great for outdoor dining
Located in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans, N7 is a neighborhood French restaurant and wine bar. Founded by filmmaker Aaron Walker and chef Yuki Yamaguchi, N7 specializes in French cuisine, often infused with a Japanese touch.

The restaurant is set off the street behind a tall fence amidst a garden, with indoor and outdoor seating.

The wine menu is focused on small European winemakers who adhere to a natural, handmade approach to winemaking: little or no added sulfites, natural yeasts and the use of no pesticides.

N7’s name derives from Nationale 7 (N7), the highway that once ran from Paris to the border of Italy. Known as the “Route des Vacances”, vacationing Parisians would take the road on their way South. Along the way, the Michelin Guide would direct them to the mom and pop restaurants which began to appear in farmhouses and hotels along the way to cater to them. Hence the origin of the Michelin Star.

Beautiful setting but terrible service. Wanted a second round of drinks for over 20 minutes. Cheese board delivered after soups and salads. No explanation of the cheeses. Soup was not hot. Entrees (duck, steak, scallops) were good. Wanted dessert but lost interest after waiting.

We had a fabulous dinner at N7 on a Tuesday night out in the garden. The noise was minimal for my almost deaf friend and the weather was beautiful. The garden lends to a relaxed and ambient atmosphere. LeDarian (sp) was an excellent server. He made such an effort to help our deaf friend understand the menu. The food was outstanding, esp the beet salad, the duck pate, the duck confit. The wine selection was perfect. Really enjoyed the evening. Only thing is, if you've never been there it's hard to find your way in, there is no sign for the gate.
