I enjoyed my meal. But my husband was disappointed with his. He ordered a broiled seafood platter. I wouldn't call it broiled, but just rubbery seafood. The hushpupies were cold, but the crab dip was yummy and hot. The service was prompt and efficient, but our server wasn't overly friendly. I'd go back, maybe not for a special occasion as a little bit of pampering would have been nice.
I like happy hour...we did sign up for open table reservations and said it was a birthday celebration, but it wasn't noted at all! Why even include that area?
One of the best seafood place in Hampton Roads. My date was impressed.
Food was very good as usual but the prices have gone up since the last time we were there.
Everything was delicious and the service was outstanding!
Food was great, Tiffany our server is top notch! Will definitely be back again!
Servers were not masked as advertised, but otherwise superb.
Even with a reservation app glitch we had a wonderful dinner & experience. The staff worked so hard to make things enjoyable for us!
Don’t go here if you’re looking to have a nice dinner.
Everything was wonderful but they were experiencing shortages of entrees and desserts just like everywhere in our country.
Crab stuffed salmon was very good! Husband always gets the seafood platter and it never disappoints either.
Service was poor. Had inexperienced and/or inattentive servers. Multiple items were not available such as hush puppies and one of the sodas, not to mention entrees. There was no notice of unavailability, no empathy with out of town guests who came to get seafood they could not get at home and no expressed regret for the inconvenience of having to go thru multiple choices to find something available.
Fabulous meal! Great staff. Will be back for sure.
Service at OTH was excellent from the moment we walked in. Our server, Penny had timing perfect. From the little things of not being without a full glass, to bringing out containers for leftovers, she nailed it. We never felt rushed, never were waiting for what's next, and equally important, never felt she was overly attentive.
The food. Wow. The team at OTH can throw down. The filet was impeccable! The seaside platter, Mahi, scallops, shrimp, and crab cake were perfection. The food's natural flavors were fresh, delicious and only slightly seasoned to a wonderful level to enhance not overtake. The meats were very obviously fresh. The asparagus was ultra delicious and cooked perfectly.
Our two appetizers, crab dip and mussels were equally amazing. The crab dip truly is award winning and the bread/chips were up to par for an award winning accompaniment. The mussels were tender, delicious, and enough to be an entree. The best I have had in a long while.
The Cote Du Rhone was full of flavor and one I will try again.
We both remarked repeatedly that everything, everything was perfect. Off the Hook is a must if you are within 50 miles! You will see and will surely agree.
Attire is business casual or even casual. There were other diners that were very relaxed,, but nothing that took away from this level of food, cooking, and service. Perfect!
The service was excellent. My glass was never empty. Linda was very attentive to every request.
Everyone enjoyed their meal. My only complaint was their ala carte crab mac and cheese bowl was hugh. I was expecting it to be about half of what it was. I would have liked to order another item, but I'm glad I didn't. I could hardly finish the Mac and cheese.
The only negative is where we sat the sun was in the face of one side of the table and there are no shades on the windows to block it.
Menu is amazing and a quiet atmosphere with amazing staff who truly went above and beyond.
The steak was cooked perfectly
The she crab soup is the best I’ve had in the area
Service was excellent
I would highly recommend this restaurant
The food was fantastic I had the Pan Seared Salmon with Risotto it was delicious.
Christmas Eve dinner with the family for this visit but have been many times over past few years.
Overall: Great restaurant in Chesapeake
-one of the few “nice” restaurants in town
-Kids Menu available!! (Mac & cheese is tasty!)
-Order the calamari appetizer!
This is one of those places that you can go for a nice meal, date night, business clients, special occasion, or a more expensive family dinner. You can actually get out of there with a very reasonable bill if you go with the tacos (a favorite of ours) or the one of the fried baskets, but you can also ring it up if you go to the steaks or more traditional seafood options.
The food: I’ve yet to order anything that I didn’t like. I’ve had the filet “OTH style” (fantastic), the shrimp & grits (really good but just ever so slightly spicy for non-spicy palate), the shrimp tacos, the mahi tacos, the grilled fish, clam strips, fried shrimp, calamari appetizer (one of my favorite calamari’s around), and shrimp cocktail among several other orders.
Ambience: currently in a small-ish space so it can be a little noisy, but not so much that you can’t easily hear your table-mates. You will fit in wearing anything from blue jeans to a jacket and tie.
If you haven’t been before I’d highly recommend going.
The food was good, lots of flavor and the seafood was fresh! The food was very rich and the drinks were fairly strong which these things are not necessarily a bad thing, it just may change how I order so I don't feel like a fat and happy zombie afterwards, LOL. The service was awesome and our server was simply the best. She was busy but made frequent stops to our table refilling drinks and making sure everything was ok, we felt quite a home.
This was our very first visit to the restaurant. We were a little late as the gps had us turned around. Called the restaurant and the hostess guided us in. She was super nice and understood about the directions. My only complaint is I wish our server could have just been a little patient with us as I felt rushed and observed her being very attentive to the tables around us. Food was excellent. Will visit again when there is not a holiday. Also we were celebrating my husband birthday which was stated on the reservation and also mentioned to the server. Nothing acknowledged so I’m not upset about that.
Food was great, we had crab cakes, steak and mahi-mahi. Everything was excellent.
Love this place! The food is amazing and they have nice sized portions.
My husband had a seafood platter and clam chowder and were great. I had the rib eye steak was so tough I didn’t even eat it.
Great spot for seafood
We hadn't been to Off the Hook in quite some time and were pleased to find out that you can now make a reservation whereas prior you had to call an hour ahead of the time you wanted to eat to be put on a wait-list??
Anyway, there were six of us last night and 2 of the 6 got there a little ahead of the 5:00 reservation. They were told they couldn't be seated until all 6 of the party were there so they asked to sit at the bar and order drinks. They were initially told they couldn't do that either but whoever (hostess perhaps?) consulted with the Manager and the Manager said since there was a reservation, they could be seated at the table. They found this a bit off and were a little put off to begin the night.
Otherwise, our server, Kenny, was great. Food was very good and everyone was happy with their dinner selections. We'll definitely go back.
The food and atmosphere was great and so was the price.
My 2 companions ordered hot crab dip. It came to the table so molten hot, that it was the consistency of she crab soup. It stayed runny, until nearly all had been consumed. When our server returned to the table, I mentioned this to her, telling her that I thought the kitchen would want to know. She responded that it was the executive chef that she would need to tell, and that he was not going to like hearing criticism. I feel that it was inappropriate for her to respond to me, in any way, except that she would let the kitchen know. At one point, she even volunteered that she was going to tell chef what I said “but not right away”. In regard to the quality of the food, I have high praise. I still believe that something can be done to thicken the consistency of the crab dip, but I certainly defer to the expertise of Chef. As to the server, she checked on us very sporadically. We were just across from a couple of guests that, I believe, got superior service from their young gentleman. I was cordial, in my dealings with our lady, so I don’t believe there was any reason for her to ignore us. I apologize, if the dining public reads this and gets a negative feeling about your establishment. I left this detailed review, because I believe OTH deserves 5-star reviews. This had been my first visit to OTH, and I will dine there again and would highly recommend it. I will not mention any of my negative experience, when I recommend it to others. Thanks for allowing me this opportunity, and merry Christmas🎄😍
This is the second time we have been to Off The Hook and I can say that their service is just as amazing as it was last time, this will definitely be one of our go to date spots.
They were out of scallops, which was disappointing. Very disappointed that they didn’t recognize my boyfriend’s birthday. I noted it on the reservation app and verified it with the hostess when we arrived. I expected the server to at least say “happy birthday”. Pricey dinner, wait staff were wearing leggings and crocs. Food was very good though.
Food was fantastic light seasoned wonderfully. Go.
First time dining at Off the Hook. Very nice. Will be back for sure. ☺️
Birthday celebration for my husband! Love this place we are fans!
Food was delicious and service was great!
The wait staff is very knowledgeable of the menu. Her recommendations were outstanding. The menu is a bit pricey; but, the food is delicious
Not once did the waitress recognize the persons birthday, despite the reservation stating we were celebrating a birthday. That was disappointing.
Just another excellent dinner off the hook. Their new waitress; Keira, was awesome
The service, food, and bar were fabulous.
It was so cold in the restaurant that we had to keep our coats on. The entree was cold and the shrimp was not cooked enough. The server did have one of our entrees removed from our bill. We will not return. This was our anniversary dinner!
Ashley was amazing! We didn’t have to wait for refills, and she wasn’t on top of us to get our order in. Timing and friendliness were on point! We will request her again when we return.
