Food is reliably top-notch, and the servers are friendly and attentive. Oliva is a Sherman Oaks institution!
We were greeted by a nice hostess and seated early. Unfortunately, our service was only fair. This is the second time I’ve have had this particular server, and both times, I’ve been disappointed by him. He didn’t check on us enough and had to request help from others. Food was good. My mom loved her pasta Norma.
We were stuck literally in a corner next to an office door that said "private". My husband had his right side smashed when an employee from the other side opened the door forcefully, then closed it when he realized a table was placed there. The food was OK, nothing great. It was our first time here and won't be coming back.
The food was really good! The service was super slow. Not the server per say, but the kitchen. Great atmosphere! Would come back, just be prepared it will take time.
In general the whole experience was good, but I felt like they over booked for the Valentine’s Day occasion. The food was amazing and the service was mediocre at best. There were lots of times where other tables were also confused about when their food was coming as well as waiting for someone to take care of them. For the occasion it felt as if they Stuffed extra tables together to garner extra business, which is fine but took away from the experience. I would definitely go back because the food was absolutely delicious but maybe on a day that isn’t so busy.
We waited for almost an hour for our table.
I will be totally honest. My friends and I ended up staying home whilst we drank white claws and ate pizza hut. It was a great offer to be fancy but at the end of the day sometimes you just accept the person who you truly are. Have a great day and thanks for helping me pretend how classy i am! 😄
Booty couldn’t even get a table with a reservation smh
Excellent service. Good food. Very nice place. Not expensive.
Garbage service and the food is nothing special especially for the price. On a good note, it has a nice atmosphere. Too bad the food is so mediocre. I had a 7:15 reservation. They overbooked and we sat down at 7:45. Appetizer came after 40 minutes. The entrees took another 40 minutes and were nothing special. Never again.
Great experience. First time here. Mathew was amazing!!!! A must go. Thank you!!!
Very good service. Only wish they used less oil and salt. Would love to see lunch specials or smaller portions for lunch as I ate the rest of my lunch for dinner.
We love Oliva’s. It’s our neighborhood favorite and the best Italian in The Valley. They always take care of our family.
Great service nice atmosphere...
Parking is not the greatest hard to find. 🤪
The service was excellent just like the food..we shared the calamari, soup, salad and fish...well worth the trip...will absolutely return..
Charming and cozy neighborhood trattoria with great men and reasonable prices.
Always good food and experience. Neighborhood favorite. But very odd to be asked to review when I got an email that Said I didn’t show up.
Friends from out-of-town. The service was not as good as it usually is. The server seemed pre-occupied. Everything else was very good.
Oliva has been our choice for a reliable Italian restaurant for many, many years. The food is always well prepared and some dishes are unique. Their service has always been their weak point, but not enough to keep us away. However, this time it barely earned a "fair" rating. We were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation time, so no problem there. Our waiter, however, took no notice of us, never stopping to ask if we wanted something to drink. It was 20 minutes before he came by to take our order for some wine or anything. Even if the restaurant was short handed that evening, service that poor should not have happened. Unfortunately, it did not get much better during our entire time there. Still, we will return and assume it was just a bad night for them.
i could not recommend this restaurant at this time. Since it opened I have enjoyed going there and was a great fan. My experience Friday night left me cold, as was the food, disappointed, and out of sorts.
Perhaps it was a bad night for all concerned and I might try it one more time, but I certainly will not recommend it again before I do so. Hard to believe it could happen, but the eggplant was undercooked and cold, the salad, which is usually wonderful, was not. Service was slow or simply not provided.
Waiter was clearly overworked and in the weeds and it was not his "fault," but it will be awhile before I try it again. So sad to loose confidence in this usually quite good setting.
Loved this place. The food is outstanding and the service is too. Moderate prices, can’t wait to go back.
We loved it
We love dine at Oliva Trattoria. Love the Branzino, Salmone and Carciofi Insalate "baby artichokes".
Excellent lasagna, pesto gnocchi, house made focaccia and pizza. Service staff very attentive
Met family for a quiet lunch at this lovely, unassuming restaurant. We had a pizza for appetizer and Bronzino for a main dish. Everything was delicious! Can’t wait to go back and try the pasta!
If you’re looking for wonderful Italian food with outstanding and friendly service you can find it at Oliva Trattoria. We love it and keep coming back.
Waitstaff was attentive and food as always was tasty and well prepared. Great value. Neighborhood gem
I was very disappointed in the slow service and poor food - especially for the price you pay. We waited almost 10 minutes after being seated before someone greeted us and asked if we wanted water. He then brought “bread” which was a grilled (burned) pita sliced in pieces. We ordered the calamari appetizer and there was literally 1o-11 small pieces of calamari mixed in with tempura carrots and zucchini. For $15, I expected a lot more. Our pasta came and not only was the pasta undercooked, but it was cold. My dish was supposed to have pieces of grilled chicken breast, but I couldn’t find any. I will never go back nor would I ever recommend this place to anyone.
Haven't been to this restuarant for about twenty years and was very pleasantly surprised. Not sure why we haven't been back. Excellent service. Tasty meals. Reasonable prices. It won't take twenty years for us to come again.
Took so long time for food to come. Risotto's rice was too hard, undercooked. Spaghetti was also undercooked.
I said it was a birthday celebration when I made the reservations but they did nothing about it and when I reminded the maître d’ later he says I will bring you a free tiramisu which never came. Did not leave me feeling happy
The lasagna was excellent. We all loved our meals.
We like and enjoy this restaurant very much. I could not give it a rating of 5 for this visit because the food, soup and main dishes, temperatures were only warm and not hot. That took away from meal enjoyment. However, we plan to return here because the food and value is quite good.
Enjoyed this restaurant very much. Have seen it many times as I drive through Sherman Oaks but never stopped in. Everyone in my group enjoyed the evening and the food very much.
Buy their gnocchi if you are a gnocchi lover. I have had the one on their specials and the one on their regular menu and both are excellent. Service is always super friendly. Cozy place to dine.
Great service by Matthew for our party of 11! Great food and drinks, too. This is our go to restaurant for family celebrations!
The food was not tasty
First time going to this gem! So happy we picked this place for our get together. We had a large group and all our special requests were graciously accommodated. Everyone raved about their meals - I can attest that the gnocchi with brisket was out of this world. The great service by Matthew was the icing on the cake. Can’t wait to go back!
we had booked in advance through Open table. They gave away our reserved table for six in the main dining area and put us in the back in a table for 10. We were a party of 6. Needless to say it was very awkward arrangement and then it didnt help that it was very loud. When we ordered they completely forgot about us and it wasn't until I called the waiter over to let him know we hadnt received even our salads that they remembered. The hot entrees came out first for 4 of us and the 2 entree salads came out at least 15 min later and both were slathered with dressing that were requested to be on the side. Needless to say the service was horrible and the food was marginal. Will not be going back.
This was a restaurant that was recommended to us by a friend. We made a reservation a week before and when we arrived, we were offered a table right next to the hostess in front of the entrance. I told her no and told her we wanted a table more inside the restaurant and pointed to an empty one. She told me that it was for a reservation for four people. I told her that I had a reservation as well and I was there! She seated us at that table. The server was polite. My glass of wine was not worth $14 and in retrospect, I should have passed on it. The Caesar salad was fine. My husband told me that he did not like the ravioli; the filling was dry and bland. I ordered eggplant parm and was underwhelmed by it as well. We did not even want to try desert. I think that I will continue to look for other Italian restaurants in the future.
