We were 5 ladies celebrating a birthday. We had a wonderful time chatting (for a long time!) and our server was patient and CHARMING! Piazza Gavi has been my favorite restaurant for many years and I highly recommend it to anyone!

Great Italian food and reasonable prices. It’s a very popular restaurant in the Foothills. My only complaint is that since it’s so popular, it often gets noisy inside. Sitting on the patio is quieter, but warmer.

Piazza Gavi keeps getting better. Order a special. It comes with a dinner salad and is enough food for two people- - especially if you are a senior. Highly recommended!

I asked an Italian friend who's personalized license plate is "FOODIE" what's his favorite Italian restaurant in Tucson. He said it was Piazza Gavi and we've been twice. It's outstanding. The food and service is wonderful and the portions are huge. It's tied for first with our other faviorite Italian restaurant. It can be a bit noisy.

We were very disappointed in Piazza Gavi, after hearing very positive reviews. The restaurant was extremely loud! Our food was average at best and not served hot! The service was very disjointed with multiple servers who seemed confused. Will not eat here again.

As usual - a most pleasant dining experience. Our server was John. I brought a guest to introduce her to this wonderful Italian eatery. She was duly impressed. We both ordered different salads. (The Sicilian & Grilled Shrimp)Beautiful presentation. Fresh ingredients. Perfect for a warm day. I can’t say enough positive things about Piazza Gavi.

I enjoyed the service & the food was amazing, not to mention the bottle of wine recommended. Will definitely keep this place as my favorite Italian restaurant in Tucson.

Gavi has been a favorite for years. Last night, the ambience on the patio was great, our server, Alex, was pleasant and reasonably attentive, but the food was surprisingly disappointing. My go-to dish has always been the lasagna with bolognese sauce. The pasta was always delicate and the sauce rich and rosy. Last night the ravioli seemed to have been formed from wet cardboard - thick and tough -and the sauce was not the usual gentle, rosy concoction I'd become accustomed to. My husband's dish was low on flavor and not up to Gavi's previous standards. The chicken was clunky and on the dry side and his rosa sauce not up to par. On the positive side, our appetizer of Calamari Crema was its usual delicious self and my dessert afagato was larger than ever and excellent. Not sure if we'll go back ... and I'm sad!

FAQs

Yes, Piazza Gavi is a popular spot for date nights and special occasions. Guests praise the warm, Italian atmosphere, attentive servers, generous portions and dishes like veal, seafood specials and tiramisu. Note: the main dining room can be lively and noisy on busy nights; many guests prefer the covered, heated patio for a quieter, cozier experience with views of the Santa Catalina foothills. Make a reservation and mention if you’d like a quieter patio table for a more intimate evening.

Portions at Piazza Gavi are consistently described as very generous, expect large entrees and plenty for leftovers. Guests regularly say dishes are big enough to share or take home another full meal, making the restaurant good value for the price. If you prefer a lighter meal, consider sharing an entree or ordering an appetizer and salad instead.

Piazza Gavi serves lunch and dinner daily. Lunch is offered daily from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and dinner runs daily from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. If you plan a visit for a holiday or a large group, callers and guests recommend confirming hours or making a reservation ahead of time.

Family-friendly seating: yes, Piazza Gavi welcomes families and guests of all ages; many patrons celebrate birthdays and bring children. Guests report accommodating service and menu options that appeal to younger diners. Accessibility: specific ADA details aren’t listed in the provided info. If you need wheelchair access or other accommodations, call ahead so staff can confirm the best seating and assist with any special needs.

For a quieter, more relaxed meal pick weekday lunch, early dinner or a late seating; many guests say early or late evenings are less noisy. If you want the lively, bustling vibe, choose weekend dinners or holiday evenings when the restaurant is packed. For the calmest experience, ask for patio seating (covered/enclosed), guests often report the patio is noticeably quieter than the main dining room.

Piazza Gavi has a warm, energetic Italian atmosphere, authentic, cheerful and often bustling. Guests praise the lively vibe, friendly staff, and traditional Italian touches (bread, sauces, classic entrees). Expect a busy dining room that can be quite loud on peak nights; the covered patio is calmer with mountain views, heaters and a more relaxed conversation level. Overall it feels like a neighborhood Italian trattoria that’s great for celebrations and casual nights out.

Smart casual is the recommended dress code. Guests typically arrive in neat, comfortable attire suitable for a casual yet polished Italian dining experience. If you're celebrating a special occasion, people often dress a bit nicer, but the overall vibe remains relaxed and welcoming.

Yes, Piazza Gavi’s staff regularly accommodate requests. Guests report successful requests for patio seating, birthday notes, dietary adjustments, and seating preferences. Because peak nights can be busy, call ahead to confirm any important needs (quiet table, accessibility, dietary restrictions) and add notes to your reservation so the team can prepare.

Yes, families and children dine at Piazza Gavi frequently. Guests celebrate birthdays and family gatherings here, and several comments reference kid-friendly menu items and large portions that work well for sharing. If you’re dining with young children, the covered patio is often a quieter, more comfortable option. For specific kid menu choices or accommodations, call ahead to confirm.

There’s no formal public waiting-list policy shown, but guests report the restaurant gets very busy and sometimes overbooks or fills quickly. Reservations are recommended, and walk-ins are often accommodated when possible. If your party is time-sensitive, call ahead to ask about wait times or to be placed on a hold/call list, staff frequently try to manage busy nights by seating parties as soon as a table becomes available.

Busiest: weekend evenings, holiday meals (Valentine’s Day, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s), and peak dinner hours when guests report the dining room is packed and loud. Quietest: weekday lunches, early dinners or late seatings and the covered patio, guests often say these times feel calmer and more conversation-friendly. Reservations are wise for any peak night.

For a calmer experience choose a weekday (Tuesday–Thursday) or a weekday lunch. Many guests say weekday lunch and early dinner times are less crowded and more relaxed. If you want the lively atmosphere, weekend evenings and holiday nights deliver that energetic, festive vibe, just expect noise and possibly waits. Reserve in advance and request patio seating if you prefer quieter conversation.

Yes, Piazza Gavi operates daily and many guest reports describe dining there on holidays (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day) with the restaurant open and serving special holiday crowds. Because holidays are busy and service can be stretched, make a reservation and call ahead if you have timing or seating preferences.

Guests report that the patio is dog-friendly (staff have provided a water dish for a dog), so outdoor dining accommodates pets. For service animals, restaurants generally allow trained service animals by law, but explicit policy isn’t listed here. Emotional support animal rules vary, so call the restaurant ahead to confirm patio pet policies and to notify them if you plan to bring a service animal so they can seat you appropriately.

Yes, many guests report being welcomed with dogs on the covered patio and receiving attentive service like a water dish. If you plan to bring a dog, request patio seating when you make your reservation and call ahead to confirm availability and any seasonal heater/fan arrangements.

Yes, Piazza Gavi has a covered/enclosed patio that guests frequently praise. The outdoor porch is often described as more peaceful than the indoor dining room, with heaters, a fireplace area and views of the Santa Catalina mountains. Many diners prefer patio seating for quieter conversation and scenic ambiance; call ahead to request it when you make your reservation.
