Pinefish is a Washington Square neighborhood restaurant serving up innovative small plates and good vibrations. The boho-chic interior sets the mood for a unique dining experience that takes you back to the 70’s. Peter Dissin’s exceptional palate and modern vision are the inspiration behind the exceptional wine list, divine sauces and small plate selections at Pinefish.
Every day, including weekends, the Happy Hour at Pinefish is a local favorite for dollar oysters, clams, and steamed shrimp. In addition to the dollar specials, you will love the $4 & $5 small plate offerings paired with $5 wines, $5 martinis, mojitos and craft beers. Happy Hour daily 4:30 - 6:30.
very disappointed for restaurant week value was poor. I ordered the crab cakes. the portion was 2 large cakes that had everything in it but crab meat. I was told by the waiter it was different from their normal menu after I asked what it was. she said it was a shrimp and scallop mouse. I would have rather had a smaller portion of the normal menu than what. the served. Desert wasn't great. The fried cauliflower was excellent I must say.
Great cozy spot to go to. The food was great! My wife and I will definitely go here again.
Went for restaurant week and was very disappointed considering the number of positive reviews for the restaurant. Ordered crabs cakes and came out undercooked and only slightly warm on the inside. It was also burnt on the outside. They said the scallops were what I saw as undercooked, but scallops shouldn’t look translucent and chewy goopy when cooked. The waiter advised away from the surf and turf which was probably a red flag from the start. Service was slow. Short rib was tender and the best dish. Carrot cake wasn’t overly sweet and ok. Fried cauliflower was pretty good. Overall not worth it for restaurant week at least.
It was amazing! From the ambiance , the waiter to the food! Did I mention the FOOD! Lol. Everything was 👍🏾
Restaurant week. Hated the ambiance, service & the food was terrible. Ended up leaving there booking a new reservation but I was still very hungry. I would never patron this place again!
Greasy food. Prices do not reflect quality of food. Drinks were terrible despite send backs. Unfortunate birthday experience. Will never return again.
Always a great experience.
Enjoyed dinner at Pine fish! Quant little restaurant. Love the tappas concept! The lobster bisque, mussels and whole grilled fish was absolutely delicious. Service was also amazing
Awesome happy hr selections which make you wonder how they stay in business ie food is the same but twice the price on regular menu. House vodka was actually good!! Oysters were d i v i n e as were the ultra filling duck fat fries...bang bang shrimp and fish balls were the only outliers to an otherwise awesome happy hr!!
We went to Pinefish this New Year's Eve for a nice dinner before the holiday festivities. The online menu and reviews looked great, and as a pescatarian this was a rare seafood-centric option. The restaurant and staff was friendly and fine, but the food left a lot to be desired. Almost every dish was soaked in oil/grease/butter...we shared the garlic shrimp, fried oysters, the most abhorrent was the truffled mashed potatoes that came sopping in oil and were left untouched. I mean, how do you mess up mashed potatoes? They are supposed to be creamy, light and fluffy, not sogged with grease :(
Awful food especially for the price we paid. Stay away if you'd like to keep your gallbladder where it belongs. Will not be going back.
Eclectic furnishings provide romantic and upscale ambiance with a happy hour menu every day, even on NYE! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Appetizers and main entree were delicious and had nice presentation. Would love to go back next time we visit Philly!
This place is a hidden gem, the food is incredible best deal you’ll get for quality seafood in the city, the happy hour is incredible. Where the food is on par with top notch restaurants the ambiance and service aren’t quite. In my opinion this a perfect place for a laid back date night. I highly recommend the oysters, mussels, bang bang shrimp, and truffle scallops.
Dishes are oily and salty. Lobster bisque can taste better if not that salty. The cod did great but way too salty. Cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are oily, I know it is fried but not expected soak in oil.
Enjoyed a meal after Birds game at the Bar. 3 of us had great cocktails, oysters, octopus, mussels, tuna, crab. Good time in a funk atmosphere. Fun night and would go back.
The only issue I have is with the service. You just get the feeling they are always trying to stiff you with the constant upcharges. A lot of the food is fried to boot, while also being really expensive
Meal was delicious. wait staff was friendly with a charming, kind personality. cod dish and sea bass just fantastic. food healthy--not drowning in butter like some places.
I would highly recommend Pinefish.
We were seated next to a birthday party group, and they were loud. the wait staff asked if we would like to move to another table; it wasn't bothering us at all so we stayed. but the fact that they cared to ask I thought showed what a classy place this is.
Restaurant was not busy other than a large party in back room, therefore we had a very nice quiet birthday dinner celebration. Food was good, we enjoyed the cod and the swordfish. Carlos' the server did a nice job with recommendations and was attentive.
Great food. Great ambiance. Definitely recommended for quality of food! Chef is excellent!
Had a wonderful dinner/drinks at Pinefish. Server was VERY attentive Food was great. Great place for conversation!
They have an amazing happy hour with an extensive food list. Nothing beats $1 oysters, shrimp, and clams! Plus they have a lot of options for people who don't eat seafood (even though it is mainly a seafood restaurant). We got to sit at the bar right in front of the kitchen and had a front row seat while the chef made all of our delicious plates. Highly recommended!
Perfectly pleasant experience and the waitress was amazing gracious!
Restaurant was dark, dingy, and dirty. Food was undercooked and came with two hairs in one of the dishes. Decor was beyond outdated and looked like it came off of the street. Check came in a literal rag. Will not return and would not recommend to anyone.
Awesome food, service and atmosphere. The swordfish dinner was special and love the roasted tomatoes were great. Will be back.
Great happy hour menu and lots of small plate options.
Love, love, love this restaurant, as does everybody that we've taken there. The food is fresh, diverse, and seasoned beautifully. The staff is informative and patient since it takes time to decide what to eat. The side room with bigger family tables is perfect for celebrations. And did I mention sharing - a perfect atmosphere and menu to get a taste of almost everything.
Great place, awesome service and great food. Owner is very friendly and personable.
Great service and food. Really.enjoyes the mussels and scallops. Will definitely be back.
Nice birthday experience!
What a great restaurant ! From start to finish it was excellent! Amazing Octopus app, Clam Casino, and Oysters Rockefeller. Dinner was Miso Cod with Seaweed and Wasabi Rice. Wow! Can't wait to come back!
We found Pinefish to be charming and full of character. The genuinely casual atmosphere is dim and cozy (at least at night) with a myriad of chandeliers lighting the tables which themselves are accompanied by an eclectic assortment of unmatched chairs. There are tall, street-corner windows, which may illuminate better in daylight, but in any event give you the opportunity to watch passersby. Elizabeth B. was our genial server, and she attended to our needs with patience. The food is good! We started with Smoked Trout Croquettes to go along with our beverages. We then strung together Oysters Rockefeller, a side of Broccolini (standing in for the Asparagus), the Poached Salmon plate, and a roasted Trout special. Okay, so it was Friday night and somewhat busy, therefore speed was not evident, but we do enjoy a relaxed meal. If we hadn't next been dashing off to the theatre, we might have stayed for dessert ... next time! We liked everything about Pinefish ... staff, style, and sustenance. Not fancy, but quite fun. Recommended!
incredible food, great atmosphere
Wonderful service and the food was to die for! If I make it back to Philly it will be my first and last dinner!
Great for happy hour-wonderful food and great choice of wine!
The happy hour menu is great and the food is good, however the service is horrible. We were seated for 17 minutes before I had to tell the hostess to get a waiter over to our table. Management needs improvement.
What a pleasant surprise! A cute, quiet spot, and the food was fresh and outstanding! I will definitely go back for a date night.
I had the lobster tails and they were delicious the duck fat fries and Brussel srouts were out of this world!
We keep it on our last to visit every 3-4 months . I had never let us down . The whole fish bronzino chimichura is always excellent . The portion size for the Cod was small .
Ambiance was lovely food was terrible. Menu descriptions did not match the food. We were most excited about the octopus and it was terrible. We were not comped for the food that came out wrong. Previous picture on yelp looked completely different than the way food looked. When bill came, we had to tip and sign on a handheld tablet and the server watched as we tipped which was very uncomfortable.
Went with friends for a quiet dinner on Saturday night. The staff was extremely accommodating, friendly but not intrusive. The food was very got. we got there at 5:45 so our first round of drinks and appetizers were order off the "happy hour menu". The restaurant is charming and cozy. A Good value
The food was excellent, however the kitchen accidentally sent out most of the small plates all at once rather than staggering them, as we had asked for, so we felt a little rushed, but they were very apologetic and comped us a dish. We will definitely return.
