Great place with awesome ambience and an energetic experience at a pool. Michael was our server an he was outstanding! Very happy overall
Wow. I don’t know if Fairmont has been reading some of the reviews and decided to eliminate every issue mentioned, but they did it: the day was perfect.
We were greeted warmly at the host stand and then again at the towel station (a very sweet young person there (I sound like a grandma…) was especially sweet). Lead through the large, clean pool area to the stunning and pristine beach, we were already sold.
Pleasant, attentive and maker of the most perfect piña coladas. Not a typical drink for me, but these were not too sweet, with a generous dark rum floater…many were imbibed. We got the flatbread with some lettuces and notably good jalapeños and the fruit plate: excellent grapes, “just okay” everything else (I mean, we ate all of it, so it wasn’t too bad).
The sand was soft, the ocean turquoise, the pools quiet and spotless, the hot tub piping. While there was some bass-heavy, nondescript music, the volume seemed appropriate/debatably too loud, but only worth mentioning because other reviewers did.
A perfect day. Eleven out of ten, easily.
thus place was nice but the pricing on the site could be a bit confusing. remember you’re paying pp and each person needs to spend the minimum . so for example if the site says $35 pp and spend $100 minimum you, each person will have to spend that total($135)..: that confused my friends and i a bit. but we had an amazing time. it was calm and relaxing and the vibes were good with music. the food was awesome, try the street corn !!!
Make sure you specify what you want in the reservation…there are all types of levels of service.
The food was good and the weekend menu is better, but realize this is a 4.5 ⭐️ Resort so it ain’t cheap. I would say it is worth it, but be ready to sepals to have a good time.
The servers are very accommodating and security is very chill. The vibe is a party, but I had young children and they were more than comfortable. A great time to enjoy the sun and live the LIFE.
Thank you, Jorge!!
-Cabana is lovely
-Lots of places to lounge in / out of the sun
-Food was very good
-Staff were very attentive
-Your reservation might start at 10, but food/beverage service is only 12-6, making it hard to meet the food & beverage minimum. We chose the most expensive cabana because we figured we would have breakfast / morning cocktails there to make it worthwhile, which didn’t work.
-Despite saying “adults only”, cabanas can be booked by families with children. Also, the staff did not enforce “adults only” with hotel guests who came into the pool who did not have cabanas rented (aka, parents from adjacent areas would let their kids come to the cabana pool, with the approval of hotel staff).
-The bass from the DJ was unbearably loud beginning in the late afternoon. I can’t overstate this. The volume overall was ok, but the level of bass they were cranking was over the top, made your teeth vibrate, and made it impossible to even have a conversation.
Great food, service, weather cabana and pool. Thank you
Will come back!
Overall so good, a little over priced for what you received. No showers at the restroom and the smell was gross, food and drinks are so good.
The guy located at the outside area who was in charge of the seats was so nice he’s name was Carlos excellent service from him and so friendly.
Me, my husband and my sister just had the WORST cabana rental experience at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel of any beach club we’ve been to in the world (which is shocking coming from the Fairmont Hotels brand — especially after I spend hundreds of thousands of dollars with my company at their Austin location during SXSW 2019). After we arrived, the staff was extremely vague in pointing us in the direction of our cabana (and we had to ask another attendant if it was correct). The attendant said the one we picked was absolutely fine. Then, the server informs us that the covered cabanas and chairs are part of the much larger family cabana package and they will need to move us to lounge chairs in the Puerto Rican sun with no umbrellas. Unacceptable. The word “cabana” itself indicates coverage and is listed in our reservation as such!!! How incredibly deceptive! After all of this, the server never returned after 45 mins while she exclusively served the gentleman behind us. I will likely never do business with Fairmont again either personally or professionally after the horrible customer service. Not recommended to anyone looking to vacation in Puerto Rico. 😡🤬😡
This was too expensive for the value. The daybeds do not come with umbrellas and the food is over priced and not good. The drinks are watered down. The servers were nice.
Professional, courteous service. Cabanas were clean and well situated around the pool. Having access a
Jorge was a great server. The cabana sampler can feed a group of four easily!
Mom, dad, and six kids bouncing to the beats of a live DJ. Good food, good service, amazing setting!!
Traveled with a small group of women in our 30s and was looking to pass the time as our flight home had been delayed. Paid for the "day bed" which essentially was 2 lounge chairs put together. Within 5 minutes of arriving torrential downpours started, most of our luggage was inside luckily, but we had beach bags etc. outside and the "day bed" had no covering, so we ran to the closest outdoor covered bar area. We stood here with our stuff in a pile for about 10 minutes meanwhile 2 bartenders behind the bar with NOTHING to do just stood there, did not come and ask us if we wanted a drink etc. We brought a few chairs from the patio area under the covering to put our soaking wet belongings on to try to start drying out, immediately the male bar tender came over and said we had to move the chairs back bc they couldn't have a more than a certain # of seats at the bar..ok..we moved the chairs away from the bar but still under the covering, he still had an issue with that so we moved the chairs back and piled our wet stuff onto 1 bar chair. We had to spend 250 on food&drink so we had to approach the bartender to ask if we could order, she asked what room # we said we're just here for the day we have that day bed over there, she said I'm sorry I can't service you here you have to go there -- she pointed to the swim up bar in the pouring rain. CLEARLY the issue with these bartenders was that we were NOT hotel guests OR that they were only going to make tip on the ridiculous 250 min spend vs the 450 min spend for a full cabana. I can honestly say in all of my years of traveling and visiting different resorts, bars, restaurants etc. I have never been treated with such poor customer service, it was honestly offensive. Luckily there was an amazing bartender at the pool bar who took our order and took excellent care of us. In the end I would think twice before booking here. Spend your money where they respect and treat all patrons equally, which is not this place..not at all
We liked the service and the beach. It is a wonderful place to spend a good time.
Was horrible- no service since we got into our cabana. We had to go to bar to order and then we’re told my minimum wasn’t met at the cabana. How can I meet a minimum of no one served me???! Eduardo and rueben were the two people who attempted to help but still nothing. I hope I don’t get charged for this cabana considering this was not a luxury experience. Save your money people.
Pool was great food was good
Cordial staff that helped us immediately w no hassle.
The place is beautiful but no one seems to know whah they’re doing. When we arrived for our reservation we asked if we could leave our luggage at the bell hop desk because we made the reservation for beach chairs + umbrella to spend our last few hours in San Juan before catching our flight back home. The bell hops were rude and gave the front desk lady a hard time about us leaving our luggage there. When we went to get our beach chairs they told us they didn't have them available and ready for us, so whats the point of a reservation? They asked us to wait by the pool and said they would come get us once our chairs+Umbrella were ready and they never did. The bar food is very basic and the drinks were so expensive with not enough liquor in them. We still made the best of it and enjoyed our last day there. Dont book the beach chairs if anything go for the cabanas which are nicer and appeared to be more available.
ANNIVERSARY 30 years!!!
When we arrived we were told the bars were closed.
we stayed at the El San Juan hotel and rented a pool cabana on sunday, we had GRAND3 cabana and what an awesome day we had, it was so much fun, we were taken very good care of, food and drinks were flowing all day, we loved having our private cabana, day beds and pool, it was the best day
For starters, the lounge cushions need to be replaced. While the service was slow the wait staff was friendly enough. The food was average. The only reason to recommend a cabana is due to the fact you most likely won't be able to find and poolside chairs.
I only gave one star because you don't have a no-star review. We were in Puerto Rico for a wedding. I thought to rent a large cabana and have people stop by to eat, drink and chill ... Sounded like a great idea at the time .. they only have 4 grand cabanas and you figure they know these are the folks who plan on spending money. It was so bad we just walked away from it! They took our drink order one time .. it took an hour and that was all the service we received. I ordered a hamburger 3 times, talked to the people with the walkie talkies a few times .. no one came by... Some kid came out to apologize, but I wasn't here for his apology .. I wanted a beer! it never came.... We went to the other pool, to eat and drink. The speakers are on both sides of the cabana ... There is no way to have any kind of conversation, it was super loud. I was looking forward to a great time... what I got was a headache, hunger pains and frustration. will not repeat and would never recommend.
Did not get a seat to stay in and do not see why a 2 seat chair is the cost of 500 dollars.
Fantastic experience. Our waiters were excellent and super friendly. Food was really good, we were two adults and two kids and had a great time.
Service was slow, the waitress may have fed my girlfriend gluten when she is gluten intolerant, and the cabana boys were lingering around us and starting unnecessary small talk. This creeped out my girlfriend, and it was especially bad when they started cleaning up in our cabana when we were sleeping. This wouldn’t be that bad if they cleaned when we were awake, but they only did it when we were sleeping, which was strange.
Hice la reservación por un precio y me cargaron adicional a mi tarjeta aun cumpliendo con los requisitos solicitados. Aún sigo esperando la devolución del cargo adicional. Hacía falta más personal ya que los meseros no daban abasto.
I wasn't aware that even though my reservation was for three people that I'd only get a space with two lounge chairs. Also, the drinks are extremely over priced starting at $17 per drink.
Always awesome 😎
We loved it! Staff was great and amazing, so were the guest staying there and the vibe was amazing, everyone was great. Food was amazing. No matter what section you chose to be at, it would be a great experience!
The best day we have at the beach in years! The food and service was great! Luis our waitress make everything possible to give us a great day! All the staff was friendly and professional! Congratulations to the hotel & Beach Club, crazy to come back!
Good times but the menu could be better
Waiting an hour for anyone to offer service or take drink orders…
The hotel had a deejay come and they turned on music that was so loud and obnoxious, my husband and I couldn't hear each other talk sitting side by side. We had to yell to hear each other and the servers who came to take our food order. We asked if they could turn it down but the staff said they had no control over it. The music was so loud, we couldn't even go on the beach to get away from it. They were apologetic and didn't hesitate to accept our request for a refund at least. We had already ordered food and took it to go. It wasn't that great and it was very expensive. We got the appetizer sampler and 2 drinks. That was the first time I haven't been impressed with a pina colada in Puerto Rico.
When booking it said adults only, but that was fake news. Also, the “dj” was equivalent to playing a throwback freestyle radio station. The vibe was low. A two person daybed wasn’t overly expensive but, thank in comparison with the vibe it might be a little over priced. If you have a good group you’ll be fine, if not, seek another party
The ambiance and service were worth the money, but not much else considering the steep spend minimum.
Everything was great …hotel is beautiful and great facilities!!!
