Food was excellent but not enough waitstaff. We waited a long time to order and a long time to get our bill at the end. They just needed more staff on hand.
The food was outstanding and we loved the thali concept. The dessert thali was especially cool and we were especially impressed by the outstanding flavor and texture of the pate de fruit. Loved the goat cheese crepes as well. The pace was good although the service felt a little impersonal. None of the staff shared their name and while I'm *pretty* sure I know who our primary server was, I couldn't be positive. Low noise level made conversation easy which was great.
A nice restaurant but the atmosphere was super casual and the price point was high. I appreciated the "tasting" Talia but did not find it to be crazy unique or 5-Star, just a solid meal - again expensive
This was our second time here and they did not disappoint! Even though I was fresh off of an endoscopy procedure at the nearby hospital, I was still able to thoroughly enjoy their food. The service was great, the food is creative and delicious, and the overall experience is one that we will definitely return for. I definitely recommend them!
The restaurant was clearly overwhelmed by the NYE crowd. It took a while to get us seated (~20mins past our reserved time - we didn't mind since it would mean we could be closer to the midnight fireworks but would've been a problem if we had other plans afterwards). Service was also 'leisurely'. There were no explanations as the food was served (only tasting menu available on NYE). Music was a bit loud for the ambience.
Food - hit or miss. First course (salad!) was the highlight with good flavor/texture combinations (though there was a bit too much avocado on the plate). Ravioli was simple yet tasty though pasta to filling ratio was off (too little filling). Could also have used a touch more sauce (again, tasty sauce). Third course (dill cheese...) was a touch too salty and needed some citrus to balance out the flavors. Desserts were disappointing (we tried 3 of the options on the tasting menu and only one - chartreuse ice cream - was acceptable). The coffee sauce with the Baklava was off-putting.
We are still intrigued by the menu and might give the 'thali' a try one of these days.
Everything was fine, but not worth the price. There was nothing really special and mini servings (note, I have eaten at other restuarants with small servings - there were more course and/or something extra tossed in to add a bit of fun etc)
one of my favorite places. everything is always amazing!
The food was all over the place. The different items were not compatible with eachother. It's almost like the chef didnt really think through the different items in the thali when putting it together. Was eg there was naan but absolutely nothing saucey to eat it with it. And we paid $30 + tax + 20% service charge for it. Absolutely unreasonable..
Excellent service; good food!
We ordered salmon and duck breast. Salmon was tasty but small on portion. Duck was cooked perfectly and large in portion. Desert for two was okay. Overall it was a great meal. Will definitely go back soon.
The service is good, but the food is very salty and heavy. The fix menu is too overpriced and the dessert is too sweet.
Had to wait 15 minutes for our reserved table, but understandable as it was Christmas eve. Fixed price menu was a good value compared to most other restaurants and the food as always is stellar.
Christmas Eve Dinner
Wonderful visit on Christmas Eve. The food was delicious, the staff was excellent and gracious.
I was really looking forward to Christmas eve dinner at Poppy. We've been there before and always enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately, our holiday dining experience was disappointing. Service was slow, food was just ok- definitely not worth the price. If this had been our first time we would never go back.
Service could have been better. It was pretty slow and we had to call the waiter a couple of times to get his attention.
Overall fantastic eating. Thali plates are extraordinary and perfect sized portions.
Love Poppy! Came here before a concert at St Mark's and was once again amazed by the flavors, the creativity and the diversity. Great wine list, great ethnic flavors, unique combinations and hearty bites.
Oscar was excellent!!!!! We’ll b back!😘
Went with some girlfriends. Like the Thali theme with a modern twist. Food was good , different and tasty. We even tried the Thali style desserts which were ok. Great place for one time experience or for taking out of town guests . We don’t drink so don’t add much value to the review in that department . Sat there for close to 3 hours. Service is great and no rush to leave so liked that . Overall definitely a place I’d recommend ppl to go to at lease once .
Always excellent. Looking forward to the next visit.
Innovative and beautiful food. Great for people who like to try many different things and are adventurous. Fantastic drinks and desserts in addition to the wonderful food.
Excellent food. Good variety. Must be ready to try new things. Wonderful discoveries across a broad spectrum of ingredients.
Gave hostess my dietary restrictions and asked if they accommodate. She checked with chefs and emailed back twice. She greeted us and reassured they were ready and made specific suggestions. THAT is superb customer service.
Food was amazing, delicious, creative and fairly prices. Service on same ultra level - knowledgeable, friendly, paced meal well.
Cocktails delicious. Eggplant fries with drinks was perfect, unusual and, of course surprisingly delicious and not greasy.
If you want an unpretentious superb meal, this place must be on your list. Bought gift cards for a couple of local friends as Christmas gifts.
Great food and service. A tad expensive for everyday dining but high quality.
We are so grateful for how Poppy remains good year in year out. The formula -- basically, an array of great, varied flavors in small dishes adding up to a thoroughly satisfying meal -- doesn't get old. Our servers conveyed enthusiasm for the cuisine they were serving, though, unlike on previous visits, we had to remind our server to tell us what was in all the little plates. (This was a busy Tuesday night, when they have the $35 dinner for two.) In short, our message to Poppy is "Keep up the good work, as you have now for so many years!"
The entire crew was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and overall experience we had at Poppy. Highly recommend doing a shared meal experience with 4-8 people in order to enjoy more of the menu.
Went for my wife’s birthday, had the thali and also the sturgeon with matsutake mushrooms. Everything was so deliscious! And beautiful! Really. Excellent.
Tasty meal marred by inattentive service and multiple billing mistakes.
Overall, Poppy was very good for the interesting food and excellent service. Unfortunately I was not happy with the automatic 20% service charge on the bill. This was for only two people. Due to this unexpected mandatory charge I cannot recommend this place to anyone.
Really interesting variety of flavors, beautifully presented. I love this spot.
This is one of my very favorite restaurants and has never disappointed . Great creative food!
Poppy is having Thali Tuesdays, where you can get a thali for two and a bottle of wine for $35. It's a fabulous deal, and the same, wonderful creative food they always serve. The food is good, with interesting spicing.
We took some special friends who were visiting from the east coast for a wonderful early dinner after a Sunday matinee at ACT. We had a great time! We started with several things from the small plates. The Eggplant fires are fabulous! Two of us ordered from the mains, one had a tali, and another more small plates. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and good conversation. The service was attentive but not overly so. Just the kind of experience we were looking for.
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, Poppy never fails!! I continue to expose family, friends and out of state guests to Poppy's because I know every dining experience will be just as fabulous as the prior one. Thanks Poppy for sharing a wonderful space and food that delights one meal after another.
OMG, the food here is SO good. Our 11 yo daughter, who is a pretty adventurous eater, loved it so much she wanted to return the next night. Everything was delicious. Waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Was able to park in the lot directly behind the restaurant. A perfect experience!
Now that we have eaten in several restaurants in Seattle, we see the Poppy is significantly overpriced. The food was tasty but the >$30 price for tiny portions was disappointing. We will not return.
Great Birthday Dinner- lots to choose from and beautifully presented
This is an excellent restaurant. The value is good, even if you are not doing Thali Tuesday. food is very original, and not "too precious." You come out feeling satisfied and that you have experienced something that you cannot easily prepare at home even if you are a good chef. Highly recommended.
Every time I come here, I am so blown away by the quality of the food, the variety and the creativity are astounding. The service is consistently wonderful, the staff know when to drop by the table and check in, and get you out the door and on your way when you are ready to do so.
