The bartender was rude and and inept. He hid looking at his cell phone by pressing himself to the compter/cash register and putting the phone on a tiny ledge while his back was to the bar and restaurant, blocking out customers. The food was bland, not a quality I associate with Indian food. The music was too loud.
Underwhelming experience after hearing how amazing it was. Menu rather limited actually, I chose the nettle ravioli with a sunchoke sauce and mushrooms. It was a bit too sparse with flavors. Others had the chickpea cake with eggplant and tomatoes. That was the better dish for flavor. The burratta salad was quite modest portion but well infused flavors. It was all just meh.
Poppy was delicious and a great setting for dinner. We had the vegan and paneer thalis and the eggplant fries. Everything was amazing and the thali would def have been plenty of food w/o an appetizer. Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
Poppy is a fantastic restaurant. Enjoyed both of our dinner and our shared dessert Thali's.
An amazing food experience, as slow. Service very slow. Took 40 minutes to even get appetizers
Always love going to Poppy but this was an especially good night. From the amazing dips and dosa and scallops apps thru the tasty and fun thalis to the epic desserts. So much Yum!
Food was good, service was attentive but definitely slowed down once the place got busier. No big deal, we ended waiting about 15-20 for dessert. Our waitress said it was just sitting there, so she took it off the bill.
Good is very flavorful, the thali has such a wide assortment of food they complimented each other well. The naan is ridiculous, I can eat just that and be happy. But as usual, the eggplant fries are always the star of show.
Overall a good experience, servers could smile a little more but it’s Seattle. Haha
Great variety of well crafted dishes (10) and pleasing tastes. Makes you want to book a return!!!~
My thali was mostly tasty, but the black rice didn't taste like much and one of the vegetable dishes was way too vinegary and another too salty. The music was too loud.
The burrata salad was amazing - order it with naan bread for an extra special treat!
Kate greeted us full of smiles, got us a great table by the window near the bar. Edna was super attentive, great explanations on whatever we asked and quick. Food was delightful... the vegan thali is super satisfying, though I ordered the regular poppy seed naan as an upgrade. Thoroughly enjoyable, we’ll be back again soon. Thank you Kate!
We had a wonderful meal at Poppy, celebrating my lady’s birthday, on the recommendation of a foodie friend.
We were warmly greeted, and asked whether we’d like a table by the window or in a corner further inside, the latter chosen by the my lady.
Presented with some pink bubbly to start with (thank you!) we had the Dosa as an appetizer -> wow, it was like a large, softer poppadum and very tasty. For our mains we had the Thali with pork shoulder, and the duck breast. Both were divine! The Thali is such a creative way of dining and we had a wonderful time working our way around the different tastes and textures, blending with the pork or duck meat. With our ice cream desert we got some complimentary caramels with them – so yummy!
The Chablis from Domaine Roland Lavantureux was equally divine and was a perfect accompaniment.
Our server was very attentive, and polite and unobtrusive.
This is some of the most creative cuisine I have had in Seattle, and we shall be returning!
Fun and airy spot with clear attention to the details. Indian inspired, but not Indian. All was delicious. Definitely have veg options. Service was friendly and very helpful.
We visited on a Tuesday so we could enjoy the ‘Thali Tuesday’ special. Food was great. The service at POPPY was terrific and we felt very comfortable and made to feel very special by our Server.
First time at Poppy did not disappoint! We went for Thali Tuesday...got to try so many different small plates..kept my mouth interested...so many flavors that worked so well together...so many colors....and service was impeccable! Will definitely be back!
I love their food and the ambiance but the noise level is something that I do not like.
Celebrated our daughter’s birthday- wonderful service, delicious food, always a great experience here.
Had never tried this type of cuisine before and it was amazing. Friends from out of town joined us and we shared the dishes and everyone agreed that the preparation and taste were excellent. We were forewarned that the was not cheap eats so when the bill came it was no surprise and certainly not exorbitant. Good food and good value on Capitol Hill.
Great food and atmosphere. Attentive service that is never overbearing. Two Thali selections and several additional entrees. Something for everyone food wise. Inventive wine list both by the glass and bottle. Go and enjoy! Highly recommended!
Delicious food. Original yet not pretentious. An absolute gem in the Capitol Hill area
The food was wonderful and was an incredible value. Ordered the Tuesday Thali and the dessert Thali. My new favorite place! Definitely will be back.
The Thalis at Poppy are the best things in Seattle -- a wonderful array of small dishes with interesting ingredients (especially herbs and vegetables) and delicious flavors.
The food was excellent but the portion size left one wanting more. I was still really hungry after my ravioli dish. I felt it was very expensive for the amount of food I received; however, the food *was* delicious!
Always delicious, with interesting flavors; always friendly; a fun place!
Very impressed with the service. The food is great.
All was good; food was good and interesting too; place is loud/lively;
the reason we won't return is the stingy wine pour: the least expensive
by the glass is $10 and the pour was pitiful--maybe 3 ounces-- a quarter
of a small glass.
Visiting from out of town. Went to a show nearby and heard good reviews. Did not disappointment. Great food, service was great as well. Would come back again if we lived nearby.
Busier than usual or maybe short of help early on. But it doesn't matter because we had all evening and thoroughly enjoyed everything!
Delicious food and flawless service
Wonderful flavors, good cocktail/wine/ beer menu, service was spot on, definitely recommend to friends and for business dinners , menu supports vegan/ veg and meat lovers
I had a wonderful first date experience. The staff was very patient while we took our time getting acquainted before perusing the menus. After several glasses of wine we ordered the NW cheese plate and the fig and glacier blue tart. Both were excellent and added to our shared enjoyment of the evening. We ended up a very leisurely 5 1/2 hours lost in conversation, and the staff displayed the perfect amount of attention without disruption.
Brought a friend, who just relocated to Seattle. It was the perfect place for a culinary experience to match her life-changing move!
Birthday for family member
A perfect early Friday night dinner of a wonderful Thali that makes Poppy’s cuisine unique. This a glass of wine, the dessert sampler, and a genuinely thoughtful server is why Poppy is so special.
The Valentine’s day thali was delicious! I don’t have the menu at hand, but I can say that the oysters, shortrib, and eggplant patisse dishes were terrific. A little too much effort and emphasis on dessert probably bumped the price too much, but value was there in the food, atmosphere, and service.
We went on Valentine's Day, so the usual Thali dinners were not available. However, as always, the food was delightful. The nettle ravioli starter and chickpea cakes were full of wonderful flavors and treasures. The dessert thali for two was amazing - each small bite was delicious!
Poppy is one of our favorite restaurants. Consistently excellent service, unexpected and delicious flavors, imaginative take on the thali tradition with Pacific Northwest ingredients. The staff is always very well-informed and accommodating.
Thali Tuesday was great! Food was delicious and perfect portion size for a satisfying dinner for two plus dessert! Add a creative cocktail list and we were a couple of happy campers!
My wife and I love Poppy!!
Its like an edible art gallery, creative fun menu and friendly staff. Our favorite Seattle restaurant!
Yes, Poppy was a great place to eat! We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered, and even got a chance to taste several Mocktails for free. The waiter and waitress were attentive and very helpful in informing us about ingredients in many of the things we ordered. It was a week night, so not super busy--hence, not noisy. It was a very satisfactory dining experience, as well as quite fun!
