Prairie Star is one of the nicest places to eat in all of New Mexico. This time our meat was a little over cooked but still flavorful.

The food was excellent. The service was very very good. The ambiance is wonderful. From our table we had a great view of the Sandia mountains and watched the hummingbirds from the picture window. It was a lovely evening.

Amazing smoked prime rib on Friday nights. Service is top notch at all levels and the value is the best we've experienced in Albuquerque and nearby areas.

Each visit to Prairie Star seems to be more delicious. Most recently, we again chose the prix fixe menu. The food was truly extraordinary (bison gumbo!) and the wine was delightful. Our table by the window gave us a lovely view of the Sandia Mountains and the hospitality of the staff was again exemplary. Bravo, Prairie Star!

Prairie Star is a superb restaurant and the food is excellent. We had the wine and dine special and it was great. Our waitress, Rhonda was very attentive and friendly. We will come back again and recommend this to others.

When we first got there we had to wait for the hostess for about 5 minutes which was fine. Another party came in after us. When the hostess returned I started saying we have reservations and she cut me off right away and said the other people were first. They told her we were here first. Finally she helped us. After that the service and the food were good. It was anniversary dinner. It’ll probably be awhile before we go back.

Thank you for choosing Prairie Star Restaurant & Wine Bar for your anniversary dinner and for sharing your experience. While we’re glad you enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance once seated, I sincerely apologize for the hostess’ misconception regarding the order of arrival. I understand how that created an uncomfortable first impression, especially on a special celebration evening. We appreciate your patience and your honest feedback, and I have shared your comments with our management team to work on improvement. We truly value your visit and hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back for a smoother and more enjoyable experience in the future.

D Steak was ok but ordered medium and got one rare and one medium well. Sides were awful. Bread was some torn up old rolls. Dessert had raw pastry. Very disappointed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear your experience at Prairie Star Restaurant & Wine Bar did not meet expectations, particularly with the steak temperatures and several elements of the meal. This is certainly not the standard we strive to provide. Your comments have been shared directly with our manager and culinary team for review and follow-up. We truly value honest feedback, as it helps us improve both consistency and execution. We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention and hope we may have the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience in the future.

We love coming for Chef Myles' Wine & Dine Dinner, especially when we can enjoy the patio. Brianna once again took good care of us. While I was disappointed that the menu that brought me in this week (Copper River Salmon) had to be changed due a delivery issue, the replacement halibut was also excellent. The Pinot Grigio was a good complement to the halibut. My husband enjoyed the bison short ribs and we both enjoyed the mixed berry dessert. Dining while overlooking the golf course and Sandias is extra special.

Thank you for joining us again for Wine & Dine and for sharing your feedback. We’re so glad Brianna took great care of you and that you enjoyed another relaxing evening. We certainly understand the disappointment when a featured item changes unexpectedly, and we appreciate your understanding regarding the delivery issue of the Copper River salmon and special cut of bison. Because our Wine & Dine menus often rely on locally sourced ingredients delivered fresh for just two evenings of service, Chef Myles occasionally has to make a quick adjustment when availability changes. We’re delighted the halibut, Pinot Grigio pairing, and the rest of your dinner made for such an enjoyable evening. We truly appreciate your continued support and look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

This is exactly the kind of visit we love to hear about—thank you. We’re honored to be part of your New Mexico tradition, and we’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to Chef Myles and the team. Between the views, the service, and the kitchen, it means a lot to know it all came together for you. We look forward to welcoming you back the next time you’re in town.

FAQs

Yes, Prairie Star is a popular choice for date night. Guests frequently praise the quiet, intimate dining room, sunset/window tables with sweeping Sandia Mountain views, attentive service, and creative, well-executed dishes. The casual-elegant setting and weekly Wine & Dine prix-fixe make it ideal for a romantic evening or special occasion. For the best experience, request a window or patio table and consider the Wine & Dine nights (Wed/Thu) or a Friday prime-rib for a memorable meal.

Portions are generally generous and satisfying. Guests often note hearty entrees, the Friday prime rib and steaks are described as large and filling, and several mention ample desserts and shareable plates. Prix-fixe dinners also feel plentiful for the price. A few isolated comments mention smaller short-rib servings or a lighter plated course, but overall most guests find portion sizes substantial and good value.

Dinner service runs Wednesday through Saturday, 5:00 pm–8:00 pm. The restaurant notes seasonal and holiday prix-fixe offerings and specifically says it is closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. For special holiday hours or prix-fixe menus, check the website or call ahead.

Family-friendly seating: yes, guests often celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and family dinners here, and many say children and teens dine comfortably. Accessible seating: not explicitly stated in the available information. If you need wheelchair access, a specific table location, or other accommodations, call the restaurant ahead so staff can confirm and prepare.

For value and a lively culinary experience, midweek Wine & Dine nights (Wednesdays and Thursdays) are a top pick, guests praise the rotating prix-fixe and wine pairings. If you want the classic special (prime rib), Friday nights are popular. For quieter evenings or the best chance at a window/patio sunset table, reserve an early seating on a weeknight and ask for a window or patio table.

Warm, intimate, and casually elegant. Guests consistently describe a quiet, tastefully decorated dining room with low noise (carpeted, adobe walls, kiva fireplaces), dramatic mountain and golf-course views from window and patio seats, and friendly, professional staff. It’s often recommended for date nights, anniversaries, and special meals because of the relaxed yet refined vibe.

Casual dress. Guests typically dress neatly for a relaxed, upscale meal, think smart-casual rather than formal. The setting is casually elegant, so comfortable yet tidy attire fits well.

Yes, the staff is used to handling requests. Guests regularly ask for window or patio tables, celebrate birthdays (servers bring desserts or a candle), and request dietary accommodations. Because seating and menu items can change, call ahead to confirm window seating, accessibility needs, allergy or gluten-free requests, or celebration arrangements so the team can prepare.

Families do dine here, and guests often bring teens or celebrate birthdays with children. The focus is on refined Contemporary New American dishes rather than a kids’ menu, so younger children may have fewer tailored options. For families, consider an early seating or request a quieter table; call ahead to discuss menu flexibility for younger diners.

There’s no formal public waiting-list noted, but reservations are recommended, Wine & Dine nights and Friday prime-rib evenings are especially popular. Guests advise booking in advance; if you arrive without a reservation on busy nights you may wait or be asked to take the next available table. Call ahead if timing or special seating is important.

Busiest: Wednesday and Thursday Wine & Dine nights and Friday prime-rib service are routinely popular; holidays and special-event evenings can also fill quickly. Quietest: early weeknights and earlier seatings tend to be calmer, and some guests note quieter alcoves or annex rooms if you prefer lower noise. Reservations and request for a quieter table help ensure a peaceful meal.

It depends on what you want: for value and an adventurous, chef-driven multi-course experience, Wednesday or Thursday Wine & Dine nights are the best choice. For fans of the prime rib special, Friday is ideal. For a quieter romantic dinner with sunset views, aim for an early weeknight seating and request a window or patio table.

Yes, Prairie Star serves special prix-fixe menus for many major holidays, but it is closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Guests report dining there for Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve events (mixed reviews), and other holiday prix-fixe dinners. Check the website or call for specific holiday hours and menu details.

Yes, guests frequently mention a patio and outdoor seating with lovely sunset views of the Sandia Mountains and the golf course. The patio is a popular choice in pleasant weather (guests report hummingbirds and great sunset vistas). If you want outdoor seating, request a patio table when you make your reservation.
