Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.

Outstanding food and service!!
It was great food but I think our waiter did not want to be there rarely smiled and we have to make a conversation with him. I will still come back to this place though.
Very good worth going back to
Still No. 1 in our opinion! Best, most authentic Italian cuisine and venue in Chicago. This is "real Milan" and a great opportunity to see the real thing now that the actual Milan is off limits. The food is always great, and it is such a wonderful place to enjoy it.
Salad was good but pasta was undercooked and hard to chew. Dessert and espresso were very good.
Our server Nino was very good.
Great tuna tartare and the eggplant zucchini dish is very authentic.
Excellent meal as usual !
We love this place. Traditional Italian with an Italian wine list. Can be busy. Reservations only if you want to go on Friday or Saturday
Wonderful neighborhood spot. Very authentic cuisine. Try to frequent as much as possible.
This was the best meal
I’ve had in the US! I wish I had a bigger appetite so I could have ordered the fried zucchini flowers! Will be back next August!
Our table was ready upon arrival which is a good start.
The vibe is good inside and even though the noise level is mid to high, it was okay.
The antipasti we ordered was good but the pasta was just mediocre. The linguine with clams was very "fishy" tasting and there were bits if shell inside. The rissoto was well cooked but rather bland.
We finished with a simple artichoke salad which was light with a nice lemon vinegarette.
Server was fine.
This restaurant is as close as you can get to experiencing an Italian dinner in Chicago that matches what we experience when visiting Milan or Rome. The food selections really distinguish this restaurant from other Italian style restaurants in the city. There are items on the menu that you often only see in Italy. I also appreciate the service and the willingness of the waitstaff to let us enjoy both an aperitivo before ordering, and cafe and a digestivo after dinner. Riccardo Trattoria transports me to Italy when a plane ride isn’t possible!
The food was absolutely amazing. Wonderful service and the wine was impeccable! I’ll definitely be back.
This is the best of the “Trattorias” that I’ve been to in Chicago, hands down
Wonderful food and flavors & excellent service from Sevan!
The fish was overcooked .. the pasta average ... the octopus dish had only a few pieces of octopus and LOTS of beans. The grilled calamari was tender, but not as flavorful as Marios.
Small, Authentic Italian restaurant with expansive and unique menu. Many interesting offerings on regular and specials menu. All items were very good and service was attentive and relaxed. Definitely recommend.
We went here for restaurant week and were blown away - the food and wine were amazing and the service was top notch. Highly recommend for a fancy dining experience.
Delicious Italian, and extremely authentic!
The food was wonderful! I didn't have a bad bite. I had the veal and ricotta meatballs to start, followed by the lobster ravioli in a saffron cream sauce. Both were incredibly rich. Way more rich than I would normally go for; but they were so decadently delicious! If I had one complaint, it would be the noise level. They would do well to invest in table cloths and perhaps draperies around the windows. With the 20foot (or so) ceilings, bare floors and tables, the crying baby six tables away and the knocked over water glass three tables away are easily heard. It winds up being a lot of distracting noise. That said, it was a wonderful dining experience. I would definitely return!
Extensive menu for all courses. Wonderful food. Excellent service.
As good as it gets. Outstanding food, great service -- even during Restaurant Week.
Great service! Server was very informed, made solid recommendations and was very friendly. Food was very good with great flavor and nice portions. Would recommend to those looking for a great meal.
Food quality has gone down .
We ordered from the Restaurant Week Menu, and as part of that, they also offer so many choices from the specials of the day menu. Large portions and everything was DELICIOUS. Great value and our server was terrific, and made good recommendations. We will definitely be back!
This place is such a gem. The service was outstanding and they have the most generous restaurant week menu of any that I’ve seen. Great experience!
Food was very disappointing. Service was ok. It’s restaurant week so I’ll take that into consideration but won’t be back. Highlight was gnocchi and gelato that only one of three had. Lasagna was dry, calamari overdone. Overall food was ‘meh’.
Restaurant week menu was wide and generous- a nice gesture for you to make. Ricotta cheese cake tasted of my childhood trays from Italian bakeries in New York City- wonderful! Friends ordered different risottos and although I found them bland, they loved them
I love coming back to riccardos. Every time I get a great meal for a fair price. The food is fresh, tasty seasonal. The wait staff is attentive and knowledgeable. It’s always a treat to go to riccardos.
Loved food, service and ambiance! Definitely go back!
We stopped for restaurant week with an 8:30pm reservation. For 3 people, it almost took 2 hours from sitting down to walking out the door - time between meals and the bill felt too drawn out considering we sat down at the end of the rush. All of our entrees were okay, but nothing incredible. We had a wonderful waiter who was very helpful and insightful about the wine and dinner options. I would be interested in trying this place again, but it's not somewhere I would highly recommend to others.
This was the second time here. Our first was just average and our most recent was very disappointing. I just don't know where the great reviews come from. We ordered the pasta fagioli which was lukewarm, tasteless and definitely felt the kitchen used a thickening agent because it was very pasty. I had the osso buco and at $36 was ridiculously overpriced for the portion size, let alone the quality of the meat. Have to say the worst osso buco I have ever had. My wife had the lamb shank and it also was a very small portion size and it flavor was just average. Both were served with rissoto which like the soup had a thickening agent added which made the item tasteless. Our server was very good so nothing to fault there, but will not be coming back again.
Pleasant service and educated servers. Food selection was excellent.
best italian food in chicago. hands down. truly authentic.. takes you to a bygone era when food tasted special and the servers were personable and kind and professional. wonderful wines, amazing desserts.. the chef is the owner and he's been cooking for decades... hails down from an illustrious italian family that has been cooking for almost a century. nothing quite like it in all of chicago. first time i came here was in 2004 where i was introduced to fresh artichokes, the concept of al dente pasta, the different wines of italy, and the idea that eating out at a place like this symbolizes the special moments we seek when we break bread together in a kind setting...
Food and service is out standing and is never disappointing. Been coming here for a long time and keep coming back for the fantastic food.
Probably my favorite Italian restaraunt in the city!! The Gnocchi is incredible. The service is on point always.
As always, a perfect experience!! Love love love Riccardos!
Very disappointed in this highly recommended restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly, but the food was tasteless. We ordered Ossobuco, but the sauce and the saffron risotto that accompanied the veal had hardly any flavor at all. We enjoyed a special mousse appetizer and Cioccolatissimo dessert, both of which were excellent. Sadly, at these prices, probably would not give it another try. There are better Italian restaurants in the neighborhood to visit.
54th Birthday celebration. Could not have been better. Excellence in every respect.
Amazing all around
