Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.
What Insiders Are Saying
Classy without being overly pretentious. Riccardo Trattoria is one of our favorite Italian restaurants around.
Nice neighborhood feel. Casual dining. Food was excellent. It was quite tasty that not once did I have to ask for extra parmigiana which is what usually happens when I go to Italian restaurants
For the first time some of the flavor and texture was missing. My thought was the chef must be on vacation because I have been many times and have never be disappointed. Based on that I am undeterred and look forward to my next visit.
Great food, great service. A must go to place. Small and Quaint.
Outstanding food and service. The Pasta E Fagioli was amazing, and the service is first rate. Our waiter was helpful and friendly, broken English and all. Best meal I had during a long week-end in Chicago.
Seafood stew, a real letdown. Seafood cooked earlier in the evening, strong over cooked seafood. Appetizer, fried zucchini flowers extremely salty. Won’t go back. Sorry
As always a warm and inviting evening! The gracious treatment and delicious food always stellar!
We love this restaurant. Great food and ambience.
Food is average but prices quite high. But that’s not the issue. We did not enjoy our experience because of the service our waiter name Alex A was not attentive, doesn’t smile. We asked for hot sauce or tobacco sauce. He didn’t even check and just brushed us off and said no we don’t have it. He could have brought pepper flakes but clearly he didn’t even try or be bothered. Sadly to say we won’t be back
This was really not a typical experience for us. We have always enjoyed everything about Trattoria but the last time was our first bad experience. I was entertaining friends from out of town. I asked the waiter if we could change out the tomato sauce on the Rigatoni dish with the pink vodka sauce (have never had a problem asking for a slight variance before). Also asked that a dinner salad be brought out at the same time as the other entrees, as one friend wasn’t feeling good to eat more than that. The salad came out about 10 minutes before the other entrees and when the rigatoni dinners came out, they were both very dry and sprinkled with Italian sausage that had no taste. Seemed to be more like hamburger meat. The complimentary bruschetta had also been sitting with the chopped tomatoes for awhile because they were soft and soaked from the juice Again, have never had this type of experience but just disappointed since I was entertaining friends from out of town and I had raves about Trattoria
Best Italian restaurant in Chicago!!!
Best Italian in the city. Hands down.
Food and service were excellent. Wine list cook be more extensive
WE thoroughly enjoyed. Already have made plans to return next week.
Food and ambiance were excellent as usual. A great place to enjoy friends and great food.
The restaurant is quaint and the wait staff is excellent. I never leave a restaurant hungry and most often have leftovers wrapped. I ordered the Dover sole special and when thought they forgot most of my entree in the kitchen. It was the smallest serving of fish I have ever been served with very little in addition to that. I was done eating in 3 bites then patiently waited as my dinner partner finished his very nice seafood pasta. Beyond that the restaurant was very good.
Best pasta and caprese salad we’ve ever had! Don’t go to Chicago without a stop here!
Excellent variety and wonderful Northern Italian cooking
We loved this place! Reminded me of so many spots we enjoyed traveling in Italy. The food was authentic, delicious and the service was fantastic. We felt right at home! Great spot!
Always a fantastic dining experience. The food is top notch, fresh, and authentic. The dining room is simple and classic. Very quaint and inviting. Christian is an outstanding asset to a wonderfully executed restaurant. He is so welcoming, and does everything to make his guests feel special yet comfortable. A Lincoln Park staple. We will be back regularly.
Visiting from way out of town, we were looking for something special. We definitely found it here! We made it last minute reservation, arrived early and we're seated immediately. The server was incredible, and very knowledgeable about the food the wine the desserts and after dinner drinks. All the other support staff were great and the food was super good! We would definitely come back and highly recommend this restaurant!
Appetizers and meal were great except beef linguine. My husband thought is was too beefaroni tasting. My saffron risotto with seafood was fantastic. The salads and calamari were also fantastic.
The room is a little tight, but you forget all about that once the food arrives
Wonderful meal delicious food!
Phenomenal service. Authentic food. Cannot wait to come back.
The food, atmosphere and service were all excellent and they are very consistently excellent.
Disappointed after reading the good reviews. Returned the Minestrone Soup as it had absolutely no flavor. This was a harbinger of the whole meal. Average meal that did not warrant the prices. The service was polite but waitress seemed very harried. Very noisy. Would not go again as there are so many better Italian restaurants in the area.
The specials were outstanding including a squash blossom starter. It is rare to see squash blossoms on Chicago menus.
Best Italian food I've had since our trip to Italy. When you see such an extensive menu, you don't expect the food to be so amazing. Highly recommend this place & we will be coming back !
We loved this neighborhood gem. We walked in and felt like we were back in Tuscany. The food was sensational and the service very attentive. The owner was charming and welcomed us warmly. I will be back here for sure on our next visit to Chicago.
Awesome place. It feels like you are in Florence.
Divine experience eating at Riccardo’s. We own a house in Italy and know great Italian food! I can count on one hand great Italian restaurants in Chicago, and this is one of them!
Wonderful experience; prototypical neighborhood restaurant. Very good food. Atmosphere is casual & comfortable. Service was first-rate.
One of our very favorite restaurants in Chicago! The food, wine, atmosphere, and service are excellent!
The trofie pasta is the best I’ve ever had including prior visits! Always a treat! Thank you!!!
Best Italian around!!
This is simply the best Italian restaurant in Chicago and quite possibly the best anywhere. This is when you understand "best" as a combination of price of the check, the quality of the food and the friendliness of the service. It is a spot for those who love and appreciate Italian food at its finest.
This is not a pizza spot or a "red sauce" place. There is one of those next door and others are to be found elsewhere in our wonderful city.
Our Mother’s Day tradition (in addition to other regular visits). It was as fabulous as always. This it’s a truly authentic Milanese trattoria, in cuisine and ambience we had three different starters (Vitiello tonato, fried sardines and arrancini - all excelllent) three different mains, but the most outstanding- as it is consistently - was the grilled branzino this is the best fish dish in Chicago, bar none. This is how they do it in Italy. excellent and very reasonable wine list. continues to be our favorite restaurant in Chicago
This is one of our favorite places. The food was very good. The service is first rate. It is a treasure.
