The menu follows a Southern-fried meat-and-three concept, meaning diners order a meat, plus three sides. Those will include Ruthie’s mac and cheese, of course, but also white-soy-braised greens, stewed chickpeas and smoked cauliflower with a spicy soy glaze. “We’re going to be changing it a lot based on seasonality,” Hill says of the menu. “ Every vegetable has got to be fantastic because it has to stand on its own.” One thing that will help that: Hill is already growing all of the restaurant’s own herbs at his South Arlington community garden plot.

Enjoyed the food and the lovely outdoor setting. But wish we didn’t have the sun shining on us (worst table for the time) the whole time we were there without an umbrella or opportunity to move.

Delicious food! Lovely patio setting. The inside would be better if they could bring the noise level down. Highly recommend this restaurant.
My recommendations: grilled octopus, hush puppies (with shrimp and jalapeño) ribs, brisket, grilled salmon, biscuits with honey butter, fantastic brussell sprouts, and for dessert campfire warm cookies and ice cream. Also, butterscotch pudding with crumbled Heath bar and whipped cream. You won't be disappointed with the food!

Creative cocktails, spaced and cool outdoor seating, perfectly light and crispy hush puppies, well seasoned and just right tender brisket and butter scotch pudding that makes you think you died and went to childhood heaven!

The cocktails were excellent; the service attentive; and the food was good. The noise level was just loud enough to be distracting over the course of dinner as the dining room was filled to capacity. The grilled salmon was terrific, the greens had a great flavor and while the large stems were cooked sufficiently, I prefer fewer of them in a serving. The cauliflower was interesting with an unusual flavor flavor profile. A thoughtful candle in the donuts made the birthday girl happy… who also loved the pulled pork!

If you crave smoked meats, get thee to Ruthie's forthwith and due haste. I ordered the modestly priced ($10) Brisket Sammy. The meat was a revelation. Done to perfection. Great blend of meat and some fat flavors. It was so melt in the mouth and perfect, i didn't add the sauce. I've consumed brisket all around the country -- TX, KS, Carolinas, and etc. This is at LEAST comparable to the best. The meat is plentiful on a sesame seed topped role and there's also a dollop of cole slaw and yummy pickles too. I added (for just $2!) the "hand punched fries". These were thin, perfectly cooked, crispy, and delivered fresh and hot. The table also shared the apple donuts for dessert. FIVE round mounds of dough deliciousness. Would i go again? If i have to crawl on my hands and knees, with god as my witness, i will get there for BRISKET again.... (Apologies to Gone with the Wind).....

Ruthie's All Day was better than I expected. Truly 5 stars. The food is fantastic. Excellent service. I am a barbecue and smoked food buff and I was very impressed. My wife and I immediately decided to have Ruthie's cater an event for us. If you haven't been you need to go.

Our first visit to Ruthie's was yesterday and we were shocked at how loud it was indoors. We had a booth of 4 people and we had to raise our voices to hear each other and we had to ask the waitress to repeat things multiple times. It was exhausting. The food was good and the place is very light and attractive. We will only return if we can sit outdoors. They do have a large outdoor seating area.

Really yummy food and a fun night. We laughed a lot as did our server. It is a very energetic place so if you want to have a conversation you will need to talk loudly as it is quite hard to hear.

It is VERY LOUD - like 75+ DB during a busy time because it's all hard surfaces (subway tile, concrete floors, wood and stone table/chairs) so by the end of the meal I had a headache. It was so loud the server misheard my wife's order from 5 feet away - I've been to quieter night clubs,

All that being said, I'd go back but I'd only sit outside. We've had takeout from them several times and the food is always really good. The food really is excellent and everyone was super nice. They just need some sound dampening materials on the walls or something.

We loved Ruthie’s throughout the pandemic and were excited to finally dine indoors (we braved weather as cold as 40 for those biscuits in the past.) It has become very popular but we had great service and the food is just exceptional, even when every table was full. I love how they balance out a Benedict with a great side salad and wish they sold the raspberry jam by the quart. This place is a gem.

My apple pancakes were great and the bloody Marys were spicy and delicious. However, our meal took forever to arrive - we watched 3 tables seated after us received their food before us and we received no explanation for the delay. My date’s meal wasn’t great: he got the brisket eggs Benedict fish and his eggs were over cooked, as was the brisket. Pretty disappointed overall.

Ruthie's has settled into the kind of reliable, friendly neighborhood restaurant that everyone wishes they had nearby. The service was competent and friendly. The food was good, but not flashy, and the ambience is casual and laid-back.

As you would expect from a barbecue spot, the meat entrees were perfectly cooked and vegetarian options were very limited. The tuna tartare appetizer and corn bread were hits, but the deviled eggs were bland and languished on the plate.

On another note, both times I've been to Ruthie's the crowd has been overwhelmingly white, to the point of drawing comment from my ethnically diverse dinner guests. I've also noticed dirty looks and whispered comments from other diners about POC at Ruthie's. It's not Waffle House levels of racism, but it was enough to make us uncomfortable. I'm well aware that there is very little the restaurant can do about this, but if you're any sort of minority and headed to Ruthie's, you should know.

Amazing food, excellent and attentive service… but so loud at dinnertime on Saturday evening as to be almost painful, even though we were seated in the “quiet” carpeted area of the restaurant. We’ll only consider returning at a much less busy time; the noise level really diminished our enjoyment.

Excellent brisket and loved the grilled octopus.

Noise levels on a Saturday night were off the chart. Had to repeat the order several times before the server could get it and conversation was next to impossible. I might try again on a week night.

Another visit to Ruthie's this week, however the results were different. I decided to try the 1/2 Chicken and unfortunately, the leg/thigh piece were pink to blood around the bone. Sent it back, but it came bac still rather red around the bone. Didn't eat the breast portion, but brought it home and when eating it, it was perfect. Lesson learned....tell the server to have the line cook make sure the leg/thigh piece is totally cooked. This experience will not preclude my returning as this is rapidly becoming my local fav!

We had a wonderful dinner for our first visit. The service was great- our waiter made several excellent suggestions that were super tasty! The octopus appetizer and campfire cookies were very good, and we would definitely order those again. They have a great menu with a lot of selection and the meal was well paced.

I had such high hopes for the food. I totally understand the service issues-it was very slow and inattentive, but I get that it’s a struggle right now so that really didn’t bother me at all. It was more so the food, I was just sort of waiting for it to pop with flavor or be amazing and it just didn’t happen for me. The steak wasn’t cooked well and was sliced in thick chunks so it really wasn’t tender, the chicken sandwich was flavorless and dry as was the brisket, the ranch dressing just simply lacked any type of flavor at all and the french fries were limp and oily without any crisp at all. Drinks were definitely lackluster.

Food & Service is amazing. Simple brisket with M&C or potato salad. Make a reservation, outside is nice, bit noisy inside or sit at the bar. Unique location, parking fills up quick, spaces in back. Definitely could be twice a month stop. Need to try the brunch.

Our food -- tuna tartar, salmon salad, and pulled pork -- was quite delicious and attractively served. I liked the spattered-looking dishware. We got there early (5:30 PM) and sat inside because it was very hot outside.

As others have noted, it's very noisy, but we were early enough that the noise was tolerable. As we were leaving, though, it eas definitely noisier. Our waiter explained that they had attached fabric pads -- they felt like a cross between felt and cork -- to the bottoms of the tables to cut down on noise. According to him, it was helping a lot, which was a surprise to us. The smaller dining room is carpeted.

Nevertheless, the food and the service were both excellent and we will definitely return.
