Salt + Marrow Kitchen
MY wife and I very much enjoyed our meal: high quality and friendly service.
We started with a great Wedge Salad.
I had the Shrimp and grits (wonderfully smokey!). My wife ended up having Oysters and Quail (2 small plates - both were excellent).
The grilled pineapple dessert with caramel was a well-balanced mix of sweet, tart, rich, and salty!
The only negatives:
- A bit pricey for the area, but not outrageous.
- Menu is a limited (maybe add a pasta dish? Is the bar menu available at main restaurant as well?)
- I had notes on my wife's food allergies (sulfites) in the reservation and asked about the short ribs: no response until we got there and asked again.
Overall, we really enjoyed the restaurant and it's more "citified" style.
We wanted to try it since we heard it had opened. I read some of the reviews that had been posted a month ago, some positive, some negative. I think reading them, made me a little more sensitive too the whole experience. We had a very nice evening and our food was excellent ! The atmosphere and service was awesome! We each had large plates and instead of doing the small plates or tapas as we call them, we asked for just plain oysters on the half shell to start, and they accommodated ! So that was our " aperitivo".
I had the shrimp and grits, Abbi had fish and grits, Hubby and my son had steak. Lil Joe said it was the best he had eaten . Big Joe got the 20 oz. cowboy and loved it, but thought it was "pricey", but good. The other meals were priced well. I will say, come with an appetite for the large plates! Our Drinks were very good, a little $, but would expect in an upscale restaurant ! The bread was just ordinary, not bad, but for this restaurant , could be better.
All in all, a very pleasant experience!❤️
High end it is not but very nice. White tablecloths would add to high end. Food is way overpriced for the quality.
Brooke was great. Everything else was meh. Oysters were cooked breadcrumbs.
The food was not worth the ridiculous prices you pay. Was told about a chefs special and decided to get it. When I got my bill I almost fell over. $60 for a steak that was not even good. Quality of the meat was not worth $60 and if I had been told the prices I never would’ve ordered in the first place
The salmon and steak were perfectly cooked
The sweet potatoes tasted like baby food. They had no flavor! And kale was tasteless
With dessert the pine apples were excellent! The sweet potatoes soufflé tasted like the sweet potatoe side that I was brought earlier and had no taste and did not even resemble a soufflé . The brittle on top had a burnt taste and the only thing that was ok was the melted marshmallows and other items on top. I was excited about this new place but it is no comparison and not at same level as cork and flame and Bonefish and frog hollow. Even though the prices were the same.
The atmosphere was amazing and the food was even better.. I was pleased with the service from beginning to end!! I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for quality service and great food!!!!
My friends and I ate there for lunch. Food was great and portions were generous. Service was great too!
We had 8 o’clock reservations & were told there would be a 20-30 minute wait when we arrived at 8. The servers new next to nothing about the wine list & they were out of our first selection on the wine list. This is not excusable when the restaurant is serving $60 entrees(the price of the dinner special the night we were there). The service we received would not have been acceptable at half the price point. The quality of the food, however, was very good. The decor of the lobby & restaurant is reminiscent of a cafeteria & not an upscale hotel.
Nice atmosphere and not crowded. Service was great but medium well steak was over cooked and looked like shoe leather. My guest ordered a medium filet and hers was perfect. The broccoli tasted like gas where it was grilled. Could not eat it.
Brooke our server was truly exceptional. She was well diversified with a menu options and wine selection. The ambience of the restaurant was to die for. The hostess went above and beyond and called my cell phone to let me know my reservation was ready. The restaurant manager Vincent also greeted The table and a pointed what the special of tonight was. I’m just overjoyed and thankful that they could accommodate me and my significant other at 8:15 PM. Even though the restaurant was busy, I felt that they truly cared about me as a guest. Not to mention she offered dessert and after a stellar service I received from her I couldn’t turn down the desert she recommended.
Came in for brunch to celebrate my brother's birthday. Great meal, great service, and great location to enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon
Great atmosphere! Our server was not the best but, I did notice that others received better service. Food was very good.
Our waiter was Brooke and she was amazing!! Loved this experience!
Had a very enjoyable evening with friends. Brooke was our wait person and kept us entertained. She was very knowledgeable about the wines and which one would pair best with the entrees we selected. The chocolate molten cake was the cream on top of a beautiful evening. Thank you and we will be back. Looking forward to warmer weather so we can go to the rooftop bar.
Valentine's day meal with my wife. Ordered the chief's special. This was New York strip mashed potatoes and some kale. The potatoes were plopped on in the most nasty fashion with 2 leaves of kale mixed in the potatoes. Amazing piece of ny strip slapped on top. Meat... amazing... potatoes, wife and I grew up poor... let me tell you, these guys served instant mashed potatoes... 99% sure. Fine you want to degrade the quality of your meal with instant mash... fine, but then I got the bill. 60 bucks A PLATE.... I know fine dining and this plate should have been a penny over $35, but because it was valentine's day...40 but 60??? Nah sorry guys wont be back and already telling people not to go. At those prices, they will be out of business by years end.
Our waitress, Brooke, was so great! She was knowledgeable about the menu and was on point with recommendations! We will be back again!
Went for Valentines Day. It was a nice touch when they gave my wife a rose. The service was fine and the food was tasty. My wife liked her entree, which was the short rib and I certainly like my entree which was the bone-in Ribeye. The ribeye was as good as I have gotten at a high-end steakhouse like Morton’s or Ruth Chris.
All around my husband and I had a great experience. As mentioned in other reviews, service was a bit slow. But, the food was really very good. My husband ordered the ribeye. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. We will definitely visit again.
This restaurant is a very nice addition to the CSRA. The food and service were of high standard. We will be returning.
My wife and I had a very nice time. Food was great and waitress was awesome also.. after we ate we went top floor to the rooftop bar.. everything about the place worth going back too.. make the reservation with open table made it easy, we were seated right away.
Took over 50 minutes to get our food which came out in 3 different rounds, 5-10 minutes apart so everyone at our table ate at different times. Food was cold when it was served and there were several errors. Waitress had a very bad attitude and neither she or the manager apologized or made concessions, not even for one check that never received part of their order.
Really good food, nice place. But they definitely need to have better service! The organization of the staff and really the entire experience needs improvement. We waited for a while, appetizers came out before drinks, check took forever. But has great potential!
Visited in Feb 2019 with a party of two. The decor is very nice with a rustic flair. The food was only ok and disappointing for the price point in comparison to other restaurants in the area.
The grilled chicken was dry and bland. It was cooked well but was in need of a sauce.
The shrimp in the shrimp and grits was fresh and cooked well. The grits were runny but flavored well. The dish was in dire need of some bacon, lardons, or sausage. The dish description mentioned bacon but I couldn't find any.
Over all the food wasn't bad, but not up to expectations for nearly $30/entree.
Cocktails were excellent. Service was friendly if a little slow.
Not ready for prime time. Dining room isn’t finished. Should have waited until art on walls, proper table placement and finishing touches completed before listing on Open Table
We had drinks upstairs which was awesome. Dinner was at 8:00. Our server was Bernard he was very good. The food was okay. It took entirely to long for our dinner order to be taken and then for it to come out to table. For only being open for a short time all in all it was a good experience, but they have a lot if little issues they need to address. We will give them another shot to impress us. Thank you!
The food was great and we could not have asked for a better waiter. He was just super and met our needs.
The food and the service were fantastic. The menu had some different flair of the same old same:) We can't wait for the weather to get water so we can enjoy the rooftop bar longer. I would like to see the lights dimmed a little in the restaurant.
I made reservations for four people and I wanted to add two more people to our reservation. When I called the restaurant they told us no problem to add 2 extra people. When I called back to finalize the reservation I was told that they could not accommodate 6 of us only 4 and they were booked solid. So, the extra two friends met us for a drink at the bar beside the restaurant before we ate dinner. We were told by the bartender that we could order from the main menu and eat dinner near the bar at the tables provided.
After speaking to Lizzy at the main restaurant to cancel the reservation, she said we could not order from the main menu only from the bar menu. So, I did not cancel our reservation and ended up talking to Jeff, the restaurant manager who was extremely pleasant and very happy to accommodate by moving all six of us to a larger table that was not being used. For some reason the restaurant was not fully booked and there were plenty of empty tables that were not being used for the two hours that we were there. I had shrimp and grits because of the high reviews. The shrimp and grits were tasty but a little salty for my taste. The wedge salad and oysters were good. The ambiance was more like eating in a cafeteria because the lights were too bright. Overall it was ok.
Lightning is not ok
Our server Vince was knowledgable and energetic. Started dinner with comlkimentary champagne Fish and grits- grits were creamy and perfectly seasoned with the mushrooms and tomatoes, the salmon was thin and over charred. Wine list is interesting and not the tyoical augusta selections. The short rib was a bit salty and could've been cooked longer. Wedge salad and beet appetizer were an excellent start. Best recommendation. The biggest disappointment was how bright the lights were- cafeteria style.
The ambiance is amazing except for the really bright lights. The food was ok. We enjoyed our apps but I couldn’t even eat my steak. However, we will definitely go back to drink on the rooftop.
There is great potential for this restaurant between ambience and location. However, it was over an hour wait from the time we placed our order until the time we received it. (And one of the meals wasn't correct, but we waited so long to get anything.) Staff was spread very thin. Food was so so. They have been open less than two weeks, so perhaps in time this restaurant will get better and be the place it is meant to be.
Newly opened and not quite ready for prime time yet. We fully expect them to work out the issues. Our server Bernard could not have been nicer. The hotel manager Jeff was super generous. But it was their 8th day and they are learning as they go. We will give it another try soon. It has potential to be a great local eatery but not quite there yet.
Great atmosphere and service. The food was absolutely delicious.
My friend and I had a lovely dinner at Salt and Marrow. Roberta was our server. She was professional, and very knowledgeable of the menu. We started off with the quail and ceviche. I loved the presentation of the ceviche, and the shishito peppers were a nice touch. For dinner my friend had the sirloin, cooked to a perfect medium rare, and I had a wedge salad. The blue cheese they used on the salad was great, just a little on the ripe side and had a great texture. We finished off dinner on Robertas recommendation with the cookie sundae. It was two massive chocolate chip cookies, and house made vanilla ice cream. Desserts is my favorite part of dinner, and it was out of this world. After dinner, we went up to the rooftop bar for a cocktail. The view is amazing! It was a great night. So glad to see another upper-scale addition to the North Augusta dining scene. Its a nice change of pace from downtown Augusta or Surrey Center. We will be back!
Slow getting food out.
We all adored our server Valerie. She was so positive and informative. We were a large party on a busy day, but our food took too long to be served. We were served bread without bread plates and shrimp and grits without spoons. Just little flukes that need attention. Overall great.
