About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Romantic
  • Neighborhood gem
Saperavi, is the first Georgian restaurant in the Canadian Prairies. We offer a wide variety of authentic dishes inspired by our very experienced chef. The cuisine is based on the culinary traditions of Georgia, developed through the centuries. We appreciate that only a relatively small number of Canadians have traveled to the country Georgia so we have brought a part of Georgia to Winnipeg. Whereas the cuisine is specific to the country, it has had some influences from Middle Eastern, Western Asian and European traditions. We have created a unique and personal dining experience, on Corydon Avenue, for our patrons.

Fabulous food. The was four of us, so we ordered the dinner for four so we got a great sample of each dish. Bring your appetite! The “dinner for four” could have easily fed five or even six. Highly recommended!

I ordered the lamb stew which had 3 small pieces of meat in total in a very small serving of stew and left hungry. Kitchen provided a dessert for free. (I'm gluten intolerant) So not much of a compensation. Others in our party were satisfied with their meals. Unlikely that I'll return.

The food is amazing, reasonable prices. We had to wait a little bit longer for a food to arrive, more than anticipated, beyond the reasonably waiting time. We were told kitchen was behind that day. That was worth waiting though.

The food was tasty and well prepared. Our waiter was friendly. Unfortunately of a party of 5 diners, one did not receive his meal (Shashlik) until the other diners had finished. There was no communication from the wait staff as to the delay or to reassure us that the food was coming. When the rest of the diners finished eating, we asked if the remaining food had been forgotten only to be told it was still coming. It did eventually show up and was tasty and well prepared, but I expected at least an apology as to the lateness.

This was our first time at the restaurant. It was great with four people that we could order a wide range of dishes and share them. All the dishes were wonderful and we enjoyed everything. Still lots more dishes to try on future visits. They have a great selection of Georgian wine and we tried on of the big reds. Very yummy. The waitress was very helpful and provided great service.

We weren't familiar with Georgian food and were excited to try something new. The Valentine's Day menu seemed like a great option to be introduced. We ordered the assorted appetizers, Kubdari, Shashlik and an additional order of Khinkali outside of the Valentines menu. Being unfamiliar with these dishes everything appear to be cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. It was like a mixture of middle eastern and Greek food. The type of food you can eat with your hands or cutlery. The appetizers had soft bread with a number of humas dipping sauces which we finished quickly. The Shashlik was like grilled kabob but not on skewers. The meat was very tender with lots of flavour. The veggies were also cooked excellently. The potatoes were tender and mushrooms were not rubbery. The food was slow to come throughout the night which seemed typical considering is was a special night but our server was almost non-existent. He did not give us updates on our meal or come to fill our waters until we flagged him down. It also seemed like he was ignoring our table since he was attending tables nearby. After 2 hrs we unfortunately had to leave and missed our dessert and Khinkali which we ordered and paid for. After we retur4ned home the manger that night, Chris, called apologizing for the missed food and offering opportunity to reimbursed but I did not follow-up. Overall, we found the food incredible and excited to try Georgia food again but hope that our service is better in the future.
