Such a wonderful experience! I’ve been going to SOsushi for years! I moved away and recently returned to Southern California. Celebrated a birthday this evening with close family and friends. The sushi was on point! Some of the best I’ve ever had. You can’t go wrong here!

By far the best sushi in the valley. Taka, Ryo, Tommy and all the chefs are friendly, knowledgeable and always have the best recommendations on what’s new.

2.5 overall. Nice place, ambience. The food was just okay, nothing was great. The rolls were whatever. The Salmon belly and Yellowtail belly nigiri were really good. The cupcake rolls used to be better. The shrimp tempura was terrible. No flavor and they were so thin that it could have passed as asparagus tempura. The miso soup was nice and hot. I appreciated this since so many places give it to you warm. The service was good. For most restaurants, I usually say try it for yourselves, but with soooo many sushi options on Ventura, this one gets a "Don't bother" from me.

FAQs

Yes, So Sushi is a popular date-night spot. Guests praise the fresh, high-quality fish, attentive service, and the new, stylish dining room that feels special without being overly formal. It’s lively and festive, so it’s great for a fun, upbeat date. For a quieter experience ask for a table away from the sushi bar or try an early weekday seating. Consider reservations for weekends and busy nights.

Portions at So Sushi tend to be generous, guests frequently mention large nigiri pieces and satisfying roll sizes. Sashimi and specialty rolls are described as plentiful, and many reviewers call the servings “generous” or “huge, ” so it’s a good place to share plates and try several items. Expect higher-end pricing for the portion and quality of fish.

For a quieter visit, aim for weekday early dinners or midweek lunches. Guests note weekday evenings can be calmer, while Friday and Saturday nights and weekend peaks are busy and lively. If you want the sushi-bar vibe, arrive early or go when bar seating opens; otherwise book a reservation for tables on busy nights.

Warm, modern, and lively, So Sushi’s renovated space is described as stylish and comfortable with a festive vibe. Guests praise bright, clean decor and an upbeat sushi-bar atmosphere. It can get noisy during busy times and some guests mention loud music or a bustling dining room, so request a quieter table if you prefer a low-key evening.

Business casual is the suggested dress code. Guests typically report a relaxed but polished dining atmosphere, comfortable smart-casual attire fits well for date nights, dinners with friends, or omakase experiences.

Yes, the owners and chefs encourage guests to share requests, preferences, and allergies in advance. Reviews show staff often accommodate substitutions and tailored omakase or chef specials. Call the restaurant ahead of your visit to arrange dietary needs, seating preferences, or private omakase details.

Yes, families and children are welcome. Many guests bring kids and celebrate birthdays here; staff have handled family meals well. If you have young children, consider an earlier seating or request a more relaxed table; there isn’t a dedicated kids’ menu noted, but cooked entrées like teriyaki are available.

Sometimes, So Sushi is frequently busy and guests recommend reservations for tables on weekends. Several reviewers report waits even with reservations and note the sushi bar is typically first-come. Expect possible waits during peak dinner hours; calling ahead or arriving early helps.

Busiest: Friday and Saturday nights and weekend peak hours; the spot is described as packed on weekends. Quietest: weekday lunches and early weekday dinners tend to be calmer. Regulars also mention busy midweek nights (some specific nights like Tuesday are popular), so midweek lunch or early weeknights are safest for a quieter meal.

Weekdays, aim for Monday–Thursday (especially lunch or an early dinner) for a more relaxed experience. If you want the full lively scene, weekends are busiest and most energetic, but you should reserve a table. Note that some guests favor certain weeknights (many regulars mention Tuesday), which can also be busy.

Historically yes, guests and the owner note prior locations and a consolidation into a larger Tarzana site. The restaurant encourages visiting their Tarzana location for lunch or dinner; current materials emphasize the main Tarzana location rather than multiple active branches, so call if you’re looking for other addresses.
