This was a very disappointing experience for me. I had a reservation for 6:45 on a Tuesday, and we’re seated right away, which is great. We order. Then we wait AN HOUR for our food to come. We actually almost got half of our meal until the waitress said it wasn’t for our table and gave it to another table. She then checked in on us once 30 minutes in to apologize and said that the oven was going slow (?) and that our food will be out shortly. And that is the last time we hear from her until we get our food. Apparently there had been an issue where the system glitched and kicked our food out of the system, but the waitress didn’t think to check on us and see if we’d gotten our food? There were several tables that had been sat after us and gotten their food before us. That was until a group of 6 or so young women sat down after us and then left without ordering being it seems like the staff didn’t even take the time to greet them. The restaurant was never full or close to full, mind you. After we finally get our food, it’s pretty good. The waitress mentions that they’ll comp the flatbread, but my friend and I honestly not only felt annoyed but disrespected. So we ask for the whole meal to be comped. The waitress says she’ll talk to the manager, and after I offer to speak with him, she says “no, I’ll be talking to him.” Okay, cool. But not without adding that “I’ll get to it eventually because I’m really busy and have a lot of things to do.” My friend and I look around the practically empty restaurant (and they do have an outdoor part but there were two people outside) and just shrug. Eventually, she gets back and says that they’ll comp 50%. Because we just wanted to leave after 2 hours in a restaurant we expected to only be in for an hour, we just agree. This just sucked all around but it at least was fun to laugh about it with my friend. Don’t go here if you have literally anything to do within a 3-hours span and if you’re hungry.

We went for brunch and ended up sitting at the bar. We ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer, the gnocchi, and a biscuit with sausage gravy. All of the food was good, we liked the portion sizes, and the cocktails we had were excellent. Service was attentive and friendly without being overwhelming. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Loved the r&b playlist, our server--attentive, gorgeous, and fun. Nice atmosphere. And the food was tasty. The entire dining experience was comforting and relaxing after a long day at a writers conference in the Convention Center.

Food was mediocre. Pre fix menu lacked creativity and finesse. Seemed to be quantity over quality in my opinion….

We had another delightful evening at Sobo Cafe. Specifically, we had an out-of-town guest coming in for a visit and wanted to show off one of our favorite neighborhood gems. Sobo did not disappoint. Even when we were very LATE due to our guest running into traffic while coming into Baltimore, Sobo Cafe adjusted and accommodated use with grace and welcome. The service was delightful all evening. Food was the usual deliciousness. Everything was great leaving a very positive impression for our friend. Thank you for making it happen!

FAQs

Yes, SoBo Kitchen & Bar is a cozy, intimate spot that many guests praise for its great food, craft cocktails, and warm atmosphere, making it a strong choice for date night. Expect candlelit tables, attentive service most nights, and a short, eclectic menu that’s good for sharing. Weeknights and quieter weekends make for a particularly relaxing evening; if you want peak romance, opt for an early reservation and request a table away from the bar or bathrooms.

Portions at SoBo tend to be generous, guests often note hearty, satisfying plates and say you can share appetizers or comfortably leave full from a main course. Several guests specifically mention large portions and recommend ordering with that in mind, especially if you plan to split dishes or have multiple courses.

SoBo is family-friendly, guests often bring families, teens, and celebrate birthdays here, but accessibility may be limited. One guest noted the restaurant was not wheelchair accessible, so if you need accessible seating or have mobility concerns, call ahead to discuss accommodations. For families, brunch and early dinner seatings tend to work best.

Warm, cozy, and neighborhood-focused, SoBo is frequently described as a hidden gem with friendly staff, candles at the tables, fresh flowers, and an inviting soundtrack (R&B or live music at times). Guests call it comfortable, relaxing, and well-suited for casual date nights, family dinners, and pre-game meals.

Casual dress is appropriate, guests frequently dine in relaxed attire and the restaurant describes its dress code as casual. It’s a neighborhood bistro where comfortable, smart-casual clothing fits right in.

Yes, the staff aims to make guests feel at home and many reviews note accommodating, friendly service (for example, adjusting for late arrivals). Call ahead to request seating preferences, dietary needs (gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan options available), or other accommodations so the team can prepare.

The best time is weekday evenings or early weekend seatings for a quieter, more relaxed experience. Guests report that game days, concert nights, and pre-stadium crowds can make weekends busier, while Monday or quieter weeknights often feel calm and intimate. Brunch weekends are popular, so earlier brunch seatings are recommended.

Yes, families and children are welcome; guests often bring teens and celebrate birthdays here. The menu is eclectic with options that suit different tastes, though there’s no mention of a dedicated kids’ menu. For younger children, consider an early seating and call ahead if you need specific accommodations.

Weekdays (Monday–Thursday) are generally the best choice for a quieter meal and attentive service. If you want lively energy, weekends before games or concerts bring a buzz, but expect busier service then. For a relaxed brunch, aim for an earlier weekend seating.

Yes, SoBo offers outdoor seating. Guests report enjoying outdoor tables on pleasant evenings, and reviewers mention dining outside during nice weather. If outdoor seating is important, call ahead to check availability for your preferred time.
