Food was fantastic, as always. And service was perfect. I don't know how Sheila manages to hire staff in the kitchen and the front of the house that always create such a lovely dining experience. If you haven't tried Soul Cafe you are missing out on a gem. Breakfast, lunch or dinner are always good.

There was a live band on the patio, and the speakers were so loud, we could not carry on a conversation at our own table. On the good side, our server, Victor, was very pleasant.
    Soul CafeResponded 5 days ago
We are glad to hear you enjoyed our service, and we will be sure to pass that on to Victor! Our live band plays every Thursday on our back patio, so be sure to request the front patio next time for a quieter experience!

As always, we had a FABULOUS night out at Soul Cafe!!!! The food (especially my beloved Cod) and drink is always delicious and service impeccable. Last night we had Tyler as our server and he was beyond attentive, professional and engaging. Lucius Parr is a favorite of mine and while he and his vocalist are more than fine as a duo, the addition of Tommy on vocals and keyboards certainly rounded out their great sound. We actually brought a THIRD new couple with us lasyt night - who like the previous two, can't wait to come back!!!! Bud McLarty

Food was outstanding, particularly the Walleye Almondine, and specials including the Lobster Empanada. Service was excellent and we outside in the dining area to south of building. Noise was moderate and being outside helped.

FAQs

Yes, Soul Cafe is a popular spot for date nights. Guests frequently praise the warm, inviting atmosphere, attentive service and creative comfort-food menu (think lemon ricotta pancakes, maple‑glazed salmon, pork chop with bacon jam). For a lively evening choose the patio on a Thursday for live music; for a quieter, romantic table ask for the back patio or an early seating. Reservations are recommended on busy nights.

It depends on what you want: go on Thursday evenings for live music and a lively patio vibe; Wednesday for the popular fried chicken special; or early weekday brunch/dinner for a quieter experience. Happy hour (Tue–Sat 2–6 PM) is great for value and shareable plates. If you prefer calm conversation, request the back patio or an early reservation.

Casual dress is appropriate. The restaurant presents a relaxed, neighborhood dining experience, guests commonly visit in casual attire for breakfast, brunch, happy hour or dinner.

Family-friendly seating is available, many guests bring family, celebrate birthdays and dine with teens or children. The back patio is often quieter and comfortable for conversation. Accessibility specifics (ramps, ADA seating) aren’t mentioned in guest feedback, so if you need wheelchair access or other accommodations call ahead and the team will advise.

Warm, casual and inviting with a neighborhood‑gem vibe. Soul Cafe blends lively bar energy (can be noisy) with a relaxed back patio that’s great for quieter meals. Yes, guests often report staff are accommodating with substitutions and dietary needs (e.g., avoiding specific oils, ingredient swaps). The manager and servers regularly help with seating requests and celebrations. Call ahead to confirm big requests (seating location, large parties, allergy needs) so the team can prepare.

Yes, families and children dine here regularly and guests report birthday celebrations and family meals. The menu is broad (breakfast, brunch, comfort-food entrees) so there are kid‑friendly options, though a dedicated kids’ menu isn’t widely mentioned. For younger children consider an early seating or patio table and call ahead if you need high chairs or specific requests.

Portions at Soul Cafe are generous and often shareable. Guests repeatedly note hearty entrees (ribs, salmon, pork chop, fried chicken) and appetizers that can be shared, and many people take home leftovers or pies. If you prefer smaller plates, consider ordering an appetizer or sharing an entrée, staff are used to splitting dishes.

Busiest: early evening (around 5–6 PM), happy hour (Tue–Sat 2–6 PM), weekends and Thursday nights (live music). Quietest: early weekday lunches or early dinner seatings and the back patio during non‑music times. If you want conversation, aim for an early reservation or the back patio on non‑music nights.

It depends on your priorities: choose Thursday for live music and a festive patio atmosphere, Wednesday for the popular fried‑chicken special, or a weekday morning/early dinner for a quieter, more relaxed experience. Guests frequently recommend Thursday for entertainment and Wednesday for value and tradition.

The restaurant is popular and gets busy, so reservations are recommended. Reviews describe crowded evenings (especially around happy hour and live music), occasional slow service when fully booked, and hosts managing seating. There’s no explicit mention of a formal waitlist system, call ahead if you’re concerned about availability or late arrivals.
