What Insiders Are Saying
Does eating at Sunda feel like eating in the club? Yes, but you don't have to love the ChampagnePapi lifestyle to love this restaurant.
Food was ok but nothing that blew us away. Service was great and ambiance was nice. Overall evening was good.
Really nice atmosphere and great food!
A little too loud, and the tables are too close together, but the food and service were fabulous!
Everything was great from start to finish. Our server Brittany was fantastic! Thanks again!
Sunda goes above and beyond our expectations every time! No doubt our favorite spot in Chi :)
Best place in Chicago.
Incredibly food and super friendly service. Highly recommend to anyone. The range of foods is great for veggies and carnivores alike.
Went specifically for the "Restaurant week" lunch menu which their website stated ran through 2/11/19. Was told it was over, had one sushi roll and left. Showed hostess the page where it clearly showed the aforementioned date and just got a shrug.
Great place for vegans - I enjoyed everything from the shiitake dumplings to the vegetable curry!
While the food was delicious we found the ambience lacking. Our table was so dark we had a hard time seeing the menu. Seriously we almost used our phones to read it. We appreciated the music being turned down to a lower level than what many restaurants tend to use. However, with the music and loud acoustics we found it not to be a very relaxing dining experience.
The ambiance of Sunda is fabulous for a big group but not the greatest for a smaller group or a couple since it’s so loud.
The cocktails were amazing and creative, but the food was not my favorite of the Asian fusion restaurants I have tried. I don’t think I would go back; I would try a different restaurant.
Best meal I’ve ever had.
The food is always fabulous. The atmosphere is really loud. Don’t go here expecting to have a conversation across the table. It’s a little pricey, but always amazing.
amazing all around!! Excellent food and service as always.
I had an amazing experience at Sunda. Its creative fusion of Asian cuisines made it very modern. Plenty of food options- even for vegetarians. The edamame dumplings were warm and delicious, the brussel sprout salad was crunchy and refreshing. We ordered 2 sushi rolls- one being the Gambler where one piece of sushi has ghost pepper in it so beware! That particular sushi was pretty spicy to begin with, I say that because I love and can handle spicy foods to begin with. The Pad Thai was a safe choice as well. Overall, the ambience of Sunda was great. Very chic and such a hot spot, the place was consistently filled with guests. Our waiter and staff were highly trained and were very attentive. I don't think they ever let my water glass become less then half way full which I admire. The waitress herself was great as describing all foods wasn't overbearing. Definitely a place I recommend!
Chinese New Year menu was disappointing, but the regular items were delicious as always!
John was a very good waiter and the food and wine was wonderful. Also the desserts!
Food quality was great and service was excellent!!!
Our meal at Sunda was just as amazing as it was on our wedding night 2 years ago. The food, service and vibe was fun and just what we wanted to celebrate our 2 years together.
Interesting and varied menu.
Loud but fun.
The beef lollipops were great. We also had the salmon and the duck fried rice.
Food was incredibly underwhelming. Fish burnt, short ribs tough. Nigiri sushi flavorless and a bit dry like it had been in the cooler a day too long.
Service was excellent, attentive and not overbearing.
The food was delicious and services was wonderful. I will be back soon!
Went there for restaurant week lunch. The first course, sashimi, Salad and maki were very good. The second course, we had the pork cutlet , salmon and squash curry. All were very good nothing great though. The squash curry was spicy and not what we were told by our server Christopher. The third course was the Lime panna cota, which was spectacular.
The service was very poor.He never explained anything and never asked us really if we needed anything. He seemed like he did not want to be there. Overall glad I tried , it but won’t be back.
Excellent service, comfortable atmosphere, prefer regular seating to high top long tables, ridiculously loud, delicious potstickers and long leg of braised beef.
The food was great! Quiet enough to have a business meeting but lively enough to feel like you are getting away. Great place. I’ll be there again this week!
I was kind of disappointed with the Sunda experience. The service was quite slow and the food was a bit overpriced for the value. Although they have a wide range of cuisine options spanning various Asian countries, none of the dishes completely wowed me. The only dish I would recommend was the pork belly. Overall, I would not recommend Sunda to a friend unless their company is paying for the meal and they have time to spare. haha
They never fail to surprise me with the best class of service, excellence and of course the food. Seriously, I had out of town guests and we were all in awe of how spot on they always are in their actions. Spilled a glass of water and boom! They had it cleaned within 10 seconds and a new glass on the table. Anyone not eating here regularly, is missing out
Sunda never disappoints. We ordered crispy rice w/ tuna & beef, brussel sprouts and a couple of other items. All were delicious! Lastly, the service was excellent from start to finish.
Food is pretty good for Asian food and really big portions.
I made our reservation thru Open Table and specified that there would be a toddler with us (much to my chagrin). Sunda had our table tucked away nicely so that we would not be disruptive if/when the toddler was "voicing his protests". I think this was wonderful for us and for other customers. Our server was wonderful and the food was spectacular!
Mia is AMAZING!!! She made our dinner so special & we had such a fabulous time!!! We’ll definitely be back to visit her & tell all our friends. Nina is so wonderful as well! She couldn’t have been kinder or
Horrible service. Cannot believe this is a lettuce entertain you restaurant. Waited a crazy long time for things to be brought out. Terrible waiter. Had to seek him out several funds to find out if other food was coming out.. he was annoyed and said it was the kitchens fault and not his fault. Never checked on table. Never came by to say sorry it’s taking awhile there’s a backup in kitchen....even though it was late in the afternoon and not crowded. I would not recommend eating here
Duck fried rice is amazing!!!
Reservation seated 15 mins late. Food and drinks so expensive. Two appetizers and two drinks = $95 with 20% tip. Service pretty slow in general, but very pleasant. Food and decor are awesome.
Bad spot for a date night, my partner and I had to scream our lungs out to be able to hear each other. Made it very tiring!
Glad it wasn’t the place we chose for our first date.
The vegetable curry and desserts were very average. Street corn with coconut was awesome.
I walked in with high expectations and hence was disappointed with the quality of food, and the ambiance.
Everything was delicious! Amazing food and cocktails, divine!
Only “issue” was difficult for my elderly mother, with a walker, to get to bathroom. We were in the back of restaurant so very long walk, plus elevator . Staff was very friendly and helpful though.
Fabulous food. Wonderful gluten free options. Great atmosphere and service. Enjoyed everything. One meal was good. The rest were amazing. A bit pricey
