What Insiders Are Saying
Does eating at Sunda feel like eating in the club? Yes, but you don't have to love the ChampagnePapi lifestyle to love this restaurant.
nico our server rocked!!!!
Great food and service. Wonderful waiter. Love the ambiance.
Food was delicious. Recommend the Spicy Tuna sticky rice, oxtail pot stickers, edimame dumplings and the lobster bacon roll. Service was pretty good. Server had great recommendations. Got a lot of food and 2 cocktails and 2 beers for 3 people for $155 + tip. I’ll definitely go back!
Hadn't eaten here in a few years. Very disappointing on every level:
1. WAY WAY too loud
2. Poor wait and delivery behavior
3. Drink orders late or not at all, other staff just not interested, wait for the server" they kept saying.
4. No food item was particularly special. For five persons a $300.00 plus tab should ALL BE SPECIAL!
Love the Brussels sprout salad
Do not order the red snapper..it was super smelly and very sweet..we told our server the same and he also agreed.however we still had to pay for the same without eating a single bite. Rest of the food was good
Definitely a fun place to go. Very busy and very loud! We selected the brusselsprout salad (very good), the edamame dumplings (delicious), and sushi (excellent). The pad thai was not very good, rather flavorless. We were going to get coffee after dinner but our waitress brought us our check-- apparently it was time to go! She was friendly but they definitely like to turn tables quickly there. All in all, I think this was a great place to go and glad we went but I'm not sure I would visit it again while in Chicago.
I would only recommend that if ordering The Gambler, be certain to have milk or ice-cream immediately available for the unlucky “victim”
Great place to show out of town guests the best Asian food Chicago has to offer. Definitely get the Peking duck bao, crispy Brussels sprouts, and pork belly skewers. The crab noodles was also a decadent treat. The rolls were a bit on the heavy side flavor wise. Excellent service as always.
Excellent Asian fusion food. They have a vegan and a gluten free menu- both with lots of choices!

Always great experience at Sunda. I made a reservation for Tuesday night. I actually made the wrong reservation and it was quickly fixed over the phone.
I wrote a memo on opentable that I will be instructing the valet to get the flowers out of my trunk so my girlfriend does not see it and give it to the host for further instructions.
When I arrived, the valet already knew it was me. All the staff knew about the instructions all the way to the server.
Our server Jerry is great, he knew the menu very well and explained that most of the food are shareable items . I told him that my girlfriend is vegetarian and he quickly grab vegetarian menu. We ended up settling for Pad-Thai with tofu, it was enough for both of us. Got a dessert that looks like a ball, I forgot what it’s called then Jerry brought the flowers that I bought for my girlfriend!
Overall, everything went smoothly and the next day my gf and I told each other that we had an amazing date. Everything went smoothly at Sunda, we had great experience, this is why I love coming back here because of the amazing customer service from every staff that I interacted with.
We will be back again!
The sushi is some of the best sushi I have had! And Kimberly was just great! She goes above and beyond to serve!
My salad was fresh and flavorful. Service was attentive and friendly. I keep on coming back here year after year and always order their sushi rolls. Food is ingesting and consistently good.
Visiting Chicago and had a great brunch experience with a fusion of delicious food.
Food was excellent! It was very quiet as we were part of the early brunch crowd. Wanted to try so many things will definitely be back! Sushi, sisig and silog bowls were awesome! Want to go back for the tempura French toast.
Lovely! Their food is so delicious - highly recommend!
Very cool place with delicious, unique dishes! The tuna truffle pizza is a must-try. Our server was perfectly professional and friendly.
Food was delicious as always!
It was great! Will go back!
The waitress Bri was the highlight of the evening. She knew the menu very well, had very great suggestions, and kept the energy flowing throughout the time we were there!
Great food. Terrible hospitality/service
I think this restaurant is very nice. It’s just very loud inside near the back corner. the food is amazing, absolutely delicious. however I don’t think it’s worth the price is that they’re charging. I still love this restaurant but I wouldn’t eat There often
Superb. One of my favorite restaurants! I love the gluten free menu. The salmon and black cod are always amazing. The black cod literally melts in your mouth. Excellent service.
Last night of vacation
AMAZING ! One of my favorite Chicago restaurants. The potstickers and garlic crab noodles were a must
Loud people sitting next to us. It was rude
Not sure what management could do
Ruined a nice family meal
I love this restaurant! Every time I visit Chicago, I come to Sunda. I highly recommend and it is always consistent.
Entertained out of town guests who wanted to experience some fine Asian cuisine. Sunda was a perfect choice!
We had a wonderful experience with awesome food and outstanding service. So much so, we stayed for 3 hours!
The restaurant was beautiful and the food was fantastic. My only complaint was the waiter. We waited a god 15 minutes for drink orders and he barely said two words to us during our dining experience. It was a real disappointment
The restaurant's ambience is very impressive. Unfortunately the food sucks! First, the adobo rice doesn't even come close to your traditional adobo flavor. The silog is overpriced ($20), we got an undercooked slightly pink tocino, two to three "thin"slices of longanisa, and way too sweet atchara. For dessert, we ordered tge ube bites. What did we get? Three cupcake sized bread pudding with a "hint" of wet ube filling!!! Everything on the menu is way overpriced. I will not recommend this restaurant if you are looking to experience Philippine cuisine.
Omg the Ube bites were Amazing! Very yummy for brunch!
Service was less than stellar. Took 20 minutes to even see server for drink order. No apologies or anything. Great food and restaurant. Service no bueno
Vegan menu is good, drinks are expensive, though. Pretty noisy, but a small outdoor patio is nice and much quieter.
Fantastic meal..can't wait to go back!
We came here for my girlfriend's birthday dinner. We were both extremely happy about the excellent service and the delicious food. It was such a fun atmosphere and we cannot wait to come back.
They served our food way to fast. Dinner was over in about 30 min. Way to fast for an expensive restaurant. Felt like they threw food at us.
So disappointed that I was told all of the things I couldn’t order because “everything is fried in fish grease”. I’ve been to Sunda a few times and maybe this is new or maybe I didn’t order fried entree before. But as a person (like quite a few others) with a fish allergy, how could you not accommodate diners by NOT frying all foods with fish?? Allergies are pretty common and this became a disappointing dining experience.
